Car number?

#170. Last owned by John Cooper. The previous owner was Jim Thompson who claimed to be owner of the Rod Shop and part of the Dodge Plymouth race team way back in the 60's.
I must have pissed him off as each time I talked to him the price got higher. I gave up on the car and gave the contact info to John. He bought the car for less money than my original offer.:confused2:
Sure stored the car nice huh? What a dork.

I remember seeing those pics before and it's still pretty shocking even seeing them today. Quite the mangled mess. You should post the before pics to show the true extent of the carnage.

Yeah I see them now placed further back. I've heard about lifts similar to a forklift setup that you can brace against a structure wall and lift the car that way. So I thought maybe that was what was going on there. Maybe not... :bolt:

Pat,
How did the guy you sold the Spirit R/T to manage to wipe out both sides of the car at the same time? That's not easy to do, unless your trying to do that much damage to a vehicle.
Guy was lucky to survive the accident and survive the beating you deserved to give him. Like the Pharaohs said to Dreyfus (Curt) in American Graffiti, "lets tie him to the car, and drag him.":eyebrows:

He lost it around a turn, went through (notice I said through) a few trees and two light poles while spinning up and down curbs. That car was mangled like no car I've ever seen...the roof was buckled, the floor boards were buckled/crushed, suspension crushed everywhere, it was crazy. Speed was definitely a factor.

It was sad for me since I built the car, but I ended up getting a pretty sweet deal getting it back to part it. I couldn't have paid for a tune up with what I paid to get the car back with the motor still intact.

The pics Pat posted don't really do the damage to the car justice. I saw the car in Pat's garage and it was AMAZING how much it twisted.

Out west in Montana,

The last time though my dad stopped and said he couldn't find the yard. Stopped at another yard in town and they said all the cars had been crushed out back when scrap steel was so high.:banghead:

Sometimes I don't like looking at these "pitful" cars and such. Just like when I use to look that the "cars in yards" website a couple years ago. They post pictures of countless rare muscle cars that are rottening away in someones back year. They were hemi cars, 440,383, 340 cars, 440 six pack cars, every thing of rarity. It's a shame that they wont sell it due to sentimental value. But at the same time, they are letting it rust away to nothing

just the timing of things. I think Chrysler thought Shadow converts would take sales away from Lebarons so P body drop tops didnt come around until 91 and turbo cars were on there way out by then.

Captain Chaos

Yes. it along with the T-top Daytonas were an afterthought and not the best one at that. a properly designed and built convertible would have been a much better start. not a chopped off 2dr

A Lebaron convertible didn't start life as a hardtop and then get the roof cut off of it. It was a seperate model. The Shadow on the other hand was a two soor sedan and went to ASC to have the roof cut off and other mods to hide the hacking to make it a convertible.

As hard as it is to surf this thread ... those NYG cars on page 5 really hurt. The 1st one could be an ACR. However, only 1495 or 1595 total were made in any configuration in only 1995. Those parts are worth money if you want to peddle them over on the Neons.org. I have had 2 NYG cars and seen 3 in j/y. I thought I was the only fool sneaking a camera in a yard too.

Oh yeah, my buddy and I always sneak a camera in on our junkyard trips. Hilarity always ensues.

I found a silver Spirit R/T in a junkyard in the Twin Cities area a few years back. This was a while ago, probably 1998. The crazy part is, it only had like 40k miles on it and ZERO body damage. The car looked brand new inside and out. The head and turbo were gone, but I bought the upper and lower airbox, rad/IC assembly, IC hoses, intake manifold w/ throttle body, fuel rail, injectors, and injector harness, exhaust manifold, rocker shafts, valve covers, gauge cluster, shifter and cables, and I think a couple other little things. The rad/IC was still installed in the car, along with the shifter and cables. All the rest of the stuff was just laying in the back seat.

I found out later the car was a Chrysler buy-back. It was sold new at Town-N-Country Dodge(which is in the Twin Cities area). A friend of mine was a dealer tech there, so he saw the car everytime it came in. It cracked a head with like 5k miles on the car, so they replaced it under warranty. A couple thousand miles later it cracked the head again. So on goes another new one. A few months after that, it was in again for a cracked head, and this time, Chrysler put an entire engine in it. That lasted 15k miles until something else broke, I think it was the clutch or trans. They fixed that and it lasted for only a few thousand miles again. My friend said that car had issues from the day it was sold. And the owner was a business man, mid 40's, not someone who was beating on it. Chrysler finally said enough is enough and bought it back. My buddy said after they bought it back, it sat behind the dealership for over a year. He tried to buy it several times, and Chrysler said no. Then one day Chrysler called and said they were sending someone to pick it up. Within a couple days, some guys came it got it with a rollback and off it went. It was about 6 months later I found it in the junkyard....

I'll have to look and see if I still have picts anywhere...

Back when I was in MN, a Shelby Charger showed up at U-Pull-R-Parts, it was back in 04 or 05, the thing was trashed. Totally rotted out, inside was a toxic mess, but someone had pulled the motor & tranny.

Now that I'm in GA, a few have shown up:

Couple of random ones I have...

First is a 13k mile Turbo Z that went through a local yard about three years ago. Was a flood car and couldn't be bought whole...

Other is a '92 or '93 IROC T1/5 spd car (from what I gathered, 1 of 50 something) that I was after for about eight years. Sat in a backyard up on jackstands forever, but the guy would never sell. Then it randomly showed up at the junkyard one day. The A568 lives on in my SC :eyebrows: while some other parts such as wiring harness, SBEC, ground effects, seats, and some other misc pieces are now helping other Daytona's live around the country!

Oh, last pic is of the IROC after it was crushed lol.

Just what I was gonna say.

I knew a kid in high school that had one of those. Weekend worth of work it could have been an immaculate car. But he beat the tar out of it, kept breaking stuff, and having his dad fix it. He was convinced his dad was the best mechanic in the world, but he did some of the worst half-assed repairs I'd ever seen. Just so everyone knows, duct tape will not fix a leaky power steering hose. The car burned to the ground just a couple months after he bought it due to steering fluid spraying onto a hot turbo.

The combo of black and gold C/S package, leather, T tops, enthusiest seat, digital dash, 12 button navigator, rear wiper, and driver info center have to make that a super rare car. The fact that it's a 5 speed also has to make it a bit more desireable.

Chrysler was able to find the info for my GTS (ended up being one of 8 black TII GTS's), so I'm sure they would have some info on that. They were able to break it down pretty well. I'm curious how many C/S T-tops were made for '86.

supercrackerbox
11-29-2009, 01:17 PM
I've never seen the power seat like that in an '86, only in '87-'89. Both of my Turbo Zs had enthusiast seats, but they were non-power with the bladder pump for thigh and lumbar. Come to think of it, my '85 Laser XE had the pump too, and that car had everything. It even had the indicators on the message center that would tell you if a headlight was out or if your brake pads were getting low. Too bad I wrecked that car.

TopDollar69

Yeah, my CS had no power options, three button traveller, yadda yadda. Only upgrade options were the rear wiper and defrost. Just the way I like it. But going from that to this '91 that has every single option except ABS has gotten me spoiled.

I do still prefer the old seats to the new ones though. That inflatable lumbar support right in the small of my back was a godsend after a day at work.

Yeah, i think it was a very rare option in 86. I took some mint black leather 6 way adjustable enthusiast power seats from a wrecked red 86 CS Daytona and it had EVERY option as well.

Some of these cars on here should have never been wrecked/parted, especially that black 89 Daytona Shelby T-top car, :(. Right...I knew it was something special and my heart sunk when I found it. The door sills and floors had rust holes in them, and it was missing the original engine. Wiring harness was hacked too. The only consolation is that much of this car is now in storage :o

Regardless, it was still restorable...at the very least it would have made a good "last stand" as a winter beater (it had less rust than the winter beater I'm using). It's a shame this car wasn't found before it got to the yard.

It was an option in 86, but I've only seen three cars with it. All three have been C/S Daytonas, two black gold cars, and one was red. All have had black leather interiors.

Was it an option or did some just sneak out at the end of the line before the 87's started? I don't see the option on any of the brochures.

Like you I've only seen 3 with the power bolsters, all I saw where in black & gold C/S's with black leather.

My 86 has the digital dash, leather int, 12 button, t-tops, ect. Only option I don't see is cruise and rear wiper. Seems most that I see are fairly loaded.

I don't think they were the same. The 87-89 seats have a split down the center of the middle cushions. Also, black was not an optional interior color on the 87-89 cars.

The bolt pattern on the frame was slightly different too. They are definately not the same. But I haven't seen the electric bolsters as an option on any documentation.

I talked to a guy that has one some time ago. (I think his name was Mike Sweetland) He has one that his brother owned since new. I beleive he said that it came that way when he ordered power seats. Just one of those oddities that has me curious.

I must have pissed him off as each time I talked to him the price got higher. I gave up on the car and gave the contact info to John. He bought the car for less money than my original offer.:confused2:
Sure stored the car nice huh? What a dork.

Found this 1987 Shelby Lancer in a junkyard last summer. Car was rotted extremely bad, no solid spots on the entire floor of the car to put a jack under, all windows smashed out and it looked like it sat that way for a long time. I did grab most of the Shelby related items except everything under the hood- the yard owner would not sell individual parts from the engine.
If anyone can figure out what # car this is it so it can be marked on the RIP list that would be great. I took a picture of the VIN plate also. The VIN # is 1b3bx68e5hn438620

Tried, it was clean and rust free when I parked it. no one wanted to pay me what I wanted so ill write it off on my taxes. Scraped the engine, kept the brakes trans, ac, ic/rad, head, and stuff like that. That stuff will hit e-bay once I come home in February.

Trevor, it's interesting that the R/T was labled as an IROC R/T and not a Shelby R/T considering it was a Canadian car (export, technically). Of course my memory is lapsing a bit on R/T history and I can't remember if that was only the Euro cars that got that treatment. :/

Also, isn't that a 2nd gen Daytona behind it? What's the story there?
