Well the roof is done, got started on the passengers door, wow its bumpy, it had 4 dents in the middle not counting the big one i already fix, thats on the top half

Dont worry I have a replacement fender that is done

Pull the fender out to get the edge of the door straight and holy cow was the cowl drain full of junk, i would suggest anyone with one of these cars clean that out.

For this year i need to do some general maintenance first, Re core radiator, blower motor and heat core, along with flushing the whole system, Then intercooler, more boost, probably bigger injectors 72lbs, then when the turbo goes or I have money upgrade. On top of all of that i have an 89 TII 2.2 i have sitting that needs forged pistons and an extra head that needs to be redone with all the goodies.

+1 nice to see one of these being restored. I sold an 89 AGS C/S not too long ago mainly because after owning Daytonas for 14 years I wanted to change. The 89-91 C/S AGS is a great package, I've owned two 89s in and one 91.

that's the Top Dog Daytona of all Daytonas in my view, and perhaps the rarest of the model, you should keep the body pure stock that's the beauty of the AGS cars, dont ruin it by adding the incorrect Shelby trim stuff (great for a Shelby version but not on a true AGS car). Does this car still have it's original engine and trany? Glad to see another one being restored.

unfortunately it does not have the orginal engine, Im unsure of the trans, but it is a A555, But i do have an 89 TII 2.2 engine that will be going in it. I was not going to ad any of the extra trim stuff because of it being an AGS CS car but i am going to be adding the shelby z chin spoiler when I find one but thats it, looks like way to much of a monster truck w/o one IMO

1 inch lowering springs will take away the monster truck look without adding the chin spoiler. My friend's 91 C/S has the MP lowering springs on it and it sits real nice.

+1 Please DON"T put the ground effects and stuff on that car! Keep it as it is. That would be totally defeating the coolness of that model imo.

If you want gfx, sell that car to me and get a shelby z:D.

well if it got anything it would be just the chin spoiler dont worry no sideskirts for me.

stupid me forgot to take pictures before i left but no a good note the top side of the door is done, i couldnt believe the amount of dents in the passenger side door, at least 15 dents, 1 was about the size of a softball maybe bigger and the other one was about 2 softballs and I bought a new DA sander :eyebrows: works real good

Pulled bumper, i have another one anyways, and the tail lights and trunk lock are out.

So do people typically remove the rear crash bar, ive heard of people taking a whole saw to them??

Looks like you have dammage to the quarter where the seat belt mechanism is glued to the inside of the quarter. I had trouble with that area as well

Maybe its just because I own a Jeep unibody (XJ) where people bolt massive steel bumpers to them (tied into the "frame" if done right), but I would think the last thing you would want to do is remove something that is going to help protect all that fresh bodywork:confused2:

Jack,

I think the rear cover gets saggy if you remove the whole crash bar. First thing I would do is get that crusty bar sandblasted, then cut some nice big round holes in it. Make sure to paint it before you put it back on, unlike mopar did when it was new.

GOOD thinking, i was thinking of just removing it, then though to whole saw it, now im definatly going to whole saw it, plus then of some idiot decides to lean on it it doesnt push the whole bumper down.

looks like we did the same thing with the lower air opening. I cut out the whole thing and mounted mesh flush up against the front.

don't forget to pull the rear spoiler, lots of potential for rust under that. looks like it should be very straight when your done.

I actually hacked up a really nice 58 Phord fairlane grille for the mesh!:p
I thought that the flush mounting gave it a sort of ferrari look. If you could picture the car bright red with yellow medallions:o

For today I ended up finishing the back/under side so its reinforced to prevent breaking, as for the top side im going to have one hell of a time recreating the lil fin on the end, but it shall be done :nod:

You have no idea how many dam times I've heard "why didnt you/dont you get a new bumper" STUPID I'M NOT FIXING A CRACK I CUT A PIECE OFF anyways rant off :lol: Should have the top side almost done tomorrow(face part) as well for the top section i would have had that glued in too, but we ran out of reinforcement matting for the glue:mad:

Debating on semi finishing off the backside too, yes nobody will see it but I'm that picky about stuff

Tell me about it, today they decided "hey his door is off that means we can sit in his car" :mad: NO! it may look crappy on the outside but the inside is beautiful, well before all the dust n stuff got inside.

Then i get a bunch looks when i kick people out, yet i cant touch any of there stuff.

Stupid people, oh well door should be close to done tomorrow pending idiots and how many times i have to get interrupted

I ended up getting sick on Sunday and had to leave work, i was pretty dead at school Monday and Tuesday, I scuffed my hood a lil and maybe did one dent, had no energy whatsoever, but still did more work then half the class :lol: anyways for today I'm feeling better, and brought my camera so Door is done :clap: now starting on the fender

I don't believe so, on the drivers side there was no evidence of somebody jacking up on the car on the rocker, just had a slight type of scratch that indented the rocker just a little, not really enough for anyone to probably notice with it being so low, but i wanted it fixed anyways. As for the other side I don't think so either, the location and how far in the rust is, plus there are no types of scuffs or scratches or anything for that matter near the rust spot, kinda weird how it just forms in the middle or the floor, perhaps i should pull the carpet up when I pull the rear interior to take off the wing, which should be next week, to check for rust on the top side.

Well I made some good progress, only to have to do a lil extra today.

A fellow student stepped in and removed the wing assembly, while i sanded the fender, the car(body work wise) is all done except the hood. When the wing was removed we realized how easy it was to remove the qt glass, so hell ya that came out :thumb: I'm very happy it was easy to take that out, since i wanted to anyways. Well off to the hood i started to DA it to knock the 'top coat' off then block it well found out the primer used by whatever shop before was LACQUER :confused: well all that had to go, I could try some 'tricks' to not having to strip it but its my car its getting done the best way, Paint stripper it is, all the paint is off the hood now, tomorrow i'll fill what dents i can feel and then etch and primer it.

I sure am using my space to the fullest :D

Remove plastic trim piece that runs along the hatch area,remove i believe 5 nuts that hold the window in place, then take a putty knife and just start trying to 'cut' it out, it was butal(sp?) tape, it will separate pretty easily, you dont really want to pry the windows out since you can break them, I just ran a putty knife along the inside against the window and kinda 'cut' it out. Easy :thumb:

Well I was able to finish up the hood, bumper and get the doors all prepped and PRIMED wooho:clap: I am now just wonder if the retaining clips for the black rings that run along the windows on the doors are going to be a pain to get back on. Anyways on to the pictures.

The whole car is now in primer :thumb::D I started to block the doors today, between coats on the primer, then got told im going to die from a heart attack from working too much/to fast, meh :p I need this baby done before the last week of april(like it to be) school ends the first week of may, so i gotta get moving if im going to jam it and all. Current goal is to have it in finish primer(ready to wetsand and paint) by friday:confused: I think i can do it:D

I made a bunch of progress today, roof just needs a lil more primer in one spot, fender is done, top of the hatch is done, rockers are done, qt is almost done, hood also had one more spot to fill that is pretty much done, both doors have been reblocked and reprimed tomorrow i'll block em once more and they are done :D It goes so quick its great

Why did you mask off the portion of the rear 1/4 and also the A pillars when you primed it? Why not just do the whole thing at once since it's in the booth?

ya I keep forgetting to bring my new bumper in, should be a simple scuff in shoot, but i probably just jinxed myself by saying 'simple':lol:

Ray: the reason I didn't do that is cause this is primer to be blocked, I dont need to block where the window sites, it will all get coated with the final primer, which should be friday :thumb: and it will be in the booth for final primer too, to much to spray out in the open w/o killing everyone:lol:

thanks for the reminder Kaleb, I went and got the new(er) bumper all ready and had to stuff it into the back seats and part of the passengers to take it to school tomorrow, I also found the drivers door molding and am taking that with me, more pictures to come

I also agree, as I think its obvious that I already thought that it was pretty cool. I would recommend guide coat if you are not already using it. There are some things that the "feelers" in your hand just cant pick up. Also, I wouldnt use reducer in your primer it will cause it to shrink later down the road.

CAR IS FINALLY ALL BLOCK SANDED :D WOHO :clap:
I scuffed all the edges, Im going to go back over them all tomorrow and tape off the whole car again and put in back into primer and wet sand it, then Jam the car and then re align the doors and everything the PAINT TIME :eyebrows:

The bumper is actually farther then this it is all sanded and i am repairing 4 spots on it, I forgot to take a final pic of it, Pics tomorrow

I dunno if that's good or bad :lol:, well its now somewhat considered Shop line, The teacher explained it to use, certified PPG shops can buy shop line, the typical person off the street cant, or at least that's what i got from it...stupid

Do you have any opinions on Single stage vs base clear, and do you happen to know the exterior trim paint code, or can you find it by any chance?

Alright i ask today what was the deal with this, teacher said only certified distributors can sell Shop line, where i went is not a 'certified' PPG distributor so they sell omni

Single stage may be cheaper, but base clear will last much longer. I would only use it on trim and side view mirrors and stuff like that. At least that is what my good friend who has been doing body work for 10+ years recommends. His car won a trophy at world of wheels once so he was doing something right.

I know i was thinking of SS the trim items that are black, plus if they do ever have problems they can all be pulled off easy(mirrors i think would be the first to fade) couple hours and they are like new

Well thanks to my slow --- classmates I was unable to prime my car today:mad: apparently it takes one of the kids 2, oh yes 2 hours! to jam a Chevy pickup 3rd door, the small ones, with it already being masked off and paint mixed:confused::mad::mad: So im pretty pissed since this is kind of a setback but after lunch I was able to get my car in the booth along with the doors and rear bumper and get it masked for the final coat, I had only 50 minutes to mask off the rest of the car and bumper and prime, no way that's happening so now it sets ready for Monday:(

The bracket is for the header pannel, my dad was able to bend it straight w/o it breaking(I was told it would break apon trying to bend it) so its all straight now and now my bumper wont sag on the left hand side and it should match up with the hood alot better too :eyebrows:

no reducers eh? How does it make it shrink, cause it later evaporates? I did spray some of the primer out of my gun without reducer and it sprayed like crap:confused:

Also to any other auto body guys, I keep being told by my teacher to single stage the car since its a straight red and im doing the whole thing, Thoughts? Im just bias and going to do base clear but just wanted some input. Mainly longevity

When you use reducer, It seeps down into the bondo and is trapped there. It might take a while but after it has been through a few heating cooling cycles of the sun then you get very slight waves. Very slight ripples. Might take a few months or a year but it will more than likely happen. You can avoid it by not reducing your primer, using an epoxy primer, or letting the vehicle sit for a good long while. Its not going to look terrible, its just that it may look emaculate when first done, then down the road you are going to wander where the minor imperfections are coming from.

As far as single stage, it would save work of not having to lay down two different coats. Im guessing your instructor is a bit old school. Base clear is so much easier to blend/touch up. I would go the way you did.

also. As far as the black trim paint. I would just get a base clear black 9700 and use flexed n flat clear. It is made by ppg. It is Dcu2060. It already has flex additive in it, looks great. I would pull the center stripe out of the bumper and prime the center molding when you do the finish primer. Just paint and clear the whole thing like normal. before you buff it out, tape off the molding and scuff it real quick then spray clear the molding. Easiest/cleanest way to do it. My .02 cents

The front bumper molding has a couple spots in it i need to fill, so i was going to do that then throw a lil final primer on those spots, instead of doing the whole thing, I was suggested that, along with masking off the qt glass to save work/time/materials, thoughts?

Ok just so i get it, tape off the molding in the bumpers, spray down some red get that all finished up, then let it flash/dry then mask off the black portions(on the red base) paint those, then pull all the tape off and clear it as a whole? or clear the moldings(or bumpers) with the DCU2060? I am going to have plenty of clear from what I already have for the car, can i just use that(with flex aditive of course), Are the black trim pieces a flat, matte, or gloss black, i cannot tell since everything was so dam sun fadded.

paint and clear the bumper as if there were no molding. Let that dry a couple days. then mask off the molding. Scuff it with some super light grit paper. 600-1000. Then shoot the black base and then shoot 2060 like normal clear. Whatever you spray with the 2060 is going to be a satin finish. I would use fineline tape to mask off the molding, if you dont already have some. The first time I painted the moldings on my daytona, I used regular masking. It bled through around the rough edges. 2nd time I used fineline, got a nice crisp line

oh just giving me a bunch of crap for using omni paint, when i should have used chromapremere dupont or the equvilant in PPG, use the best of those 2's clears, Im using dupont sealer value shade 5, then omni paint, and Transtar clear, Ive seen and heard great things about it, so why not use it, my shop has sprayed it on some pretty high end cars with great results, you use less then the 2 big guys, its cheaper what more could you want, and it holds out well. Oh well i guess we'll see, just picked up the sealer activator/reducer, and the clear today at work, I think im going to be fixing a lil dent in the jam of the drivers area, then getting the hatch off and prep it tomorrow spray Wednesday maybe. Time will tell.

Next is to finish up on the doors with the scuffing, removing those stupid door stickers are a pain in the butt, now i have to primer some areas, also I have to weld a lil more on the door hindge, prime that, scuff engine bay tomorrow/day and finish up scuffing the hatch, I hope to be spraying the jams tomorrow but it may not happen

Engine now is a 2.5 with all the factory TII stuff on it, This summer it will be getting a FMIC, 83lbs injectors, then about all the boost the stocker can muster :lol: I have a used s60 turbo on the way, depending on condition that may go on, but probably not until the stocker goes, at the time I hopefully should be installing a 3in sv:eyebrows:

Great work! Looks like it will look just like mine, except mine is an '88. I also did remove the center piece on the front bumper cover opening, more air to the intercooler is a good thing, and added the shelbyz chin spoiler because the modified powerstroke intercooler is too big and the bottom of it was showing under the bumper. I think it looks better with the chin spoiler.

Oh and I saw your other thread about black trim paint. I use SEM trim black, it does a nice job. Available in a rattle can or quart so you can spray it with a paint gun. I use the rattle can for small trim parts and mirrors with good results.

Im planning on making it down there a couple times this summer, maybe even making it to some of the races you guys all go to, for both Linoma-bluffs SDAC, and MNSDAC :D Can't Wait

So no wet sanding :(, i forgot about how big of a pain in the butt it is to align everything, plus forgot about undercoating, so HOPEFULLY i'll be wet sanding tomorrow, also tomorrow after school im going out to the local you pull it, and grabbing a bunch of extra bolts and whatnot, since i have been missing a bunch(not from myself from previous owners) I think one fender had 2 bolts in it :eek:

Aligning stuff is a HUGE pain in the butt :mad: but now that that is out of the way, WET SANDING TIME, I don't really like to wet sand but at least i know paint is just down the road :eyebrows: Started on the rocker, qt panel and door today, Might even have the car done tomorrow:eyebrows:...with sanding that is, paint monday/tuesday, do trim on Tuesday/wed, reassemble thrusday/fri and DRIVE IT HOME :amen: Thats the plan anyways

I just finished wet sanding the car, 4 hours straight of sanding :confused:15 minute break for lunch and back at it for another hour and a half, shoes are wet but I think it is done, did the final wash of the car in a really big hurry, since i wanted it washed today, then dry over the weekend to paint on monday, I may find some spots that i'll probably just dry sand now but the major stuff besides maybe a couple edges on the rockers is done :clap:Cant wait to freakin paint this dam thing, I have 7 days to finish it, and id like to be done by friday (5 days left) before my internship..which is at my job anyways, alright enough talking pics:

gas door will be painted the same time the bumpers will be painted, if not all at the same time, I don't know if the booth is big enough. Door handles have already been prepped they are going to be black along with the rest of the trim, i though it was weird one handle was all black, the other was gray with the handle just black

I want to show you but seriuosly i got 'kicked' out, i had to be gone by 10 to 4, I got done spraying at 4, clean up finished at maybe 4:10, so the teacher was more then ready to get going:(

Today I prepped all the trim to be painted, Its getting a semi gloss Single stage black, Im actually worried now about wet sanding and buffing the car, since if i wait to long it will sand like a rock and getting some of the wet sanding scratches out will be a huge pain in the ---, So its either paint the trim tomorrow and/or wet sand/buff car :confused2:

As you can see its decent looking but a light wet sand and buff will make it really nice :eyebrows: So My plan I'm thinking now is, wet sand/buff car tomorrow, get a car trailer from my boss, tow it to either my house/his shop and finish it there if I can

Front and rear bumper are both on! all black trim is painted, tomorrow i just have to paint the gas door and the wing inner piece covers, as of now I could drive the car....but has no tail lights on yet, i was busy buffing the rear taillight housings, they sure look nice, but.....I forgot my camera...and ipod :( at school on my box Pics tomororw, should be all together too, tomorrow night, stay tuned

I havnt even buffed or washed it yet, that was a light wipe down with Mist n shine...GREAT STUFF btw, tomorrow its getting a full wash and interior will be majorly cleaned, i'll also be doing some undercoating touch up to the wheel wells and buffing the rims :thumb:

Thanks Ray, I put the rear marker lights in last night, I didnt have a 'good set' at the time so they were not in, and I still need to get the pin stripe for the moldings, now it REALLY needs tires and rims, and especially lowering springs:nod: I spend about 7 hours yesterday putting stuff on and doing a final detail, car looks awesome.

A few friends mentioned i should have one of the dealerships install that 'clear bug guard' on the fenders and maybe the bumper to prevent rock chips, thoughts anyone???

well first the car looks amazing why would you not want to be in car shows?
but could you take some day shots and take a ton
what kind of rims are you going to go for?
are those eBay lowering springs any good i was thinking about getting some
and i wouldn't get the bug guard it is real obvious that its theregreat work

It is a clear, but has a slight texture to it, and with it being so low to the ground(rockers and bottom of fenders/bumper tips) you would probably not really notice it unless your in the right light or looking for it.

Not sure on rims yet, someone else posted pics of there car(88 CS, which looks awesome btw) cant remember his username but, black crabs look good, or pumpers or maybe slipstreams, black :amen: also seeing his pictures again make me still want a shelby z chin spoiler :nod:

Hey Jack,

My brother has had that shiled stuff on his forester since the day he bought it and you can barely notice it on there unless your really close to it. You would want it on the bumper/headlight covers, leading edge of the hood and front tips of the fenders. He had it done at Select Sound on 41st.

You will have to bring the car by sometime this week so I can check it out. I'll call you tomorrow night.

I talk to the guy a lil more in depth about what he had, since i guess he wanted to tell me rather then me see it, anyways power mirrors, interior and exterior door handles for a daytona, center console cover, and the rims are snowflakes bummer i was hoping for crabs or pumpers:( oh and as state tail lights, but I dont need those.

As for the car, I was unable to do any undercoating,to cold outside, I fixed one of my leaky tires, Next time its nice out Im going to undercoat the wheel wells and paint the glass trim semi gloss black, then comes intercooler time:D

Alright I couldnt finish the wheel wells the other night, so i did them today, Did an oil change and added another s10 air dam :D Oh also advanced the timing 2 degrees(14) for the e85:nod: really goes in 2nd, well actually not just spins, crappy tires, also getting wheel hop too :(

Finished up the seats with minor trimming, its not quite up to my liking personally since its not all super smooth and looks identical, plus i couldnt get the wrinkles out of the fabric, but it was self done and i learned some stuff so it'll work out good.

A fine pet brush might help with smoothing the fabric out, or at least getting all the grains going the same direction. I can't wait to see the pics of the seats mounted in the car. Also, I was looking at some pics of a Jetta, and it looks like they have the back adjuster knobs towards the doors and the back release is towards the center console.

hm never though about a brush...i'll try it out on a extra piece to see.
interesting, so the passenger screwed up the edge of there seat, probably from dragging there a$$ like you and i were talking about, I'm thinking about possible taking the drivers one apart and fixing that since it has a lil bit of foam that is really weak. I was going to start to fabricate some brackets today since i don't have to work and no more school but its all crappy out and rainy, hopefully it will clear up. Since the seat adjusters go on the outside of the car, thats weird since then the inside bolster of the bottom of the seats are worn, why would those be worn at all???

Did you get a hold of the guy with the new yorker?

You could remove that piece between the sail panel and roof and use some lead and lead it shut, they don't call it lead now i guess its called 'body solder' since its safer. its a though, and like mentioned it may crack, not so much with solder but maybe, plus our cars are not rwd i wouldn't think the car would twist there as much since they are fwd, but a big auto crosser might be able to do it.

I"ll have to get new pics of the car when i get the new(to me) pumper wheels paint em black and slam it :eyebrows:

Just finished the exhaust yesterday, Finally have it all the way to the back with a straight though dynomax muffler and a stock tip, looks good, no rattles

Tomorrow if i get time i will be rewiring my headlights to run off relays, and possible my fuel pump, might not get time for both but they will both be done eventually

Its a local friends SRT, I had just washed it and happen to see where he parked and snapped this photo, Ya its illegal here to not have a front plate ,but i cut out the middle spot were the factory bracket goes, Ive been meaning to make a bracket that bolts to the bottom NO WAY IN HELL IM DRILLING INTO THE BUMPER, i'll probably just be lazy and wait till i get pulled over for it...knock on wood :D I also hate the look for the front license plate on there especially now but i guess...stupid laws, I dont get why we need a front one anyways, so im gonna run from the cops in reverse???

the ticket is 25 to 35 dollars i rather pay that then have the plate i already got pulled over for rear license plate light out and no front plate and didn't even get a warning and he told me to fix the back light and nothing about the front plate he was a state trooper too
i don't see why either half the states don't run the them and it would be cheaper just to make one rather then 2 for every one

The Nebraska State Patrol states that it is safer for all motorists to have a front and rear plate. How is it safer?- they wouldn't answer that. IMHO it's simply a non-obstructed, reflective piece of metal out front for easier speed readings.

Good news, I have next Saturday off, and will be heading to Omaha for the LinOma-Bluffs meet :thumb:

Rewired my headlights today to run off relays, Wow way better, especially the HI beams:D

Also fixed a bolt that snapped between the bumper and fender, so now there isnt a huge gap. Also intentioned my belt.

I know the somewhat ghetto fix i did will fail eventually and this will be great for a good fix, 38 bucks isnt too bad, and I'll probably go that route next time.

Oh and an update:

I added front mud flaps to it, YES i know Fugly, but its either mud flaps, which now dont look so bad, or chipped up fenders/doors/rockers in a year or so = repaint

You might need to just tighten it up. It uses a copper crush washer if my memory serves me correctly. I have the 89 rail from the 2.5L we pulled at Nordstroms if you can't get the leak fixed. I'm glad to hear you got your RD running right, I bet that was driving you nuts.

Well found a problem tonight.

I was noticing what seemed to be a bad motor mount, when i'd shift sometimes id hear a clunk(motor mount loose or bad) anyways went home and popped the hood to see what was wrong, everything looked fine, then I heard a psh noise, it was hard to explain, think of water dropping on something hot and evaporating..... Well thats close to what it was EXCEPT it was FUEL leaking from i believe its called the dapnier, the round saucer thing on the drivers side of the rail, it was dripping gas onto my coolant line to my turbo.:confused:

Luckily I found this before a engine fire started up. So tomorrow I'll inspect it, not sure if this just screws off, I believe it does, but I do have extra fuel rails but they are a different style, i believe pre 89 since the lines for that rail come up the firewall not on the frame next to the strut tower.

Also I'll be buying new mounts and filling them with window urethane, cheap, and will hopefully be better then the stock crap mounts, hell the ones in the car are no more then a year old.
new mounts are around $30 each and for $45 you can get the poly filled ones from johnny IMO a strong runner it will last longer for not much more at all
but glad you found this before you started a fire!

The dash rattle is hard to deal with on a daily driver. Now all the rest of the mounts are new Polybushings units, and a NOS bobble strut. The dash just rattles at certain RPMs while driving now, and I can deal with that. I think the solid bobble is only intended for racing anways.

The other day i was trying to fix another fuel leak from the FPR after I installed a different rail, well i was revving the motor up and noticed the front Motor Mount was moving around, decided to pull that today, Filled some new ones with window urethane and installed them today. When I went to pull the mount I noticed the bracket was cracked, So I welded it up, installed new mounts and the vibration now is almost gone, So happy I did this!

for now trying to fix my dam fuel leak, I started it up yesturday and it was leaking at the FPR AGAIN, so i put a new o ring on the regulator and reinstalled then test drove without any problems, but im keeping my fingers cross, This time I bent the tabs on the FPR to push it down farther so we'll see. Other then that, just saving money to buy parts, but its hard when I have 4 projects to work on, my RD, my cuda, and the convert, which is being put on hold for now. I finally registered a bank account for pay pal now i just have to wait for it to transfer money and then i'll order injectors, a zeitronix wb gauge and much more.

Last weekend I finally added rear mud flaps to the car, at first they looked hidious but they have grown on me, plus I'd rather have mud flaps on then a rock chiped, full of mud rear bumper. Also bought a fuel pressure gauge, when the pump is running i squeeze the return line and up to only 70psi it goes...bad pump...AGAIN:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Woke the car up today from its hibernation. Found out the AFPR was leaking, when I went and pulled the vac line off and some fuel spit out, and only did it when I did this(applied vacuum to the nipple) other then that no leaking weird. Anyways swapped on a stocker and ran great, I dont recall the call I burned for it but it must have overboost on, So I had to turn down the g valve besides that the car ran good, lil lean mid to low 12s wot but it has a combo of e85 and premium. Still cant decide which route to go, thinking premium since I had so many issues with fuel pumps and whatnot, but hey it might be fixed now since I did a mod to it to make it hold pressure, as state in another thread.

The Ic is off of an evo 8 that I picked up for 80 bucks, figured it wasnt too bad of a price and its the perfect size, biggest width and still have maybe a 1/4in between it and the headlight motors. Just need the ends to be cut and rotated and make some pipes. I was able to bolt the IC in using 3 main brackets and didnt have to drill into my car or anything!

I'll be installing the new s60 turbo, wastegate, which I might add I wish they didnt paint it but oh well, swingvalve, Put on a new timing belt, front crank seal, gonna do a rear one too just for the hell of it, new oil pan gasket maybe(its permadry so it is technically reusable but not sure if I wanna gamble, Port the exhaust manifold to match with the turbo if it doesnt, if it does port it more anyways, Im going to port the Intake to accept a 52mm tb for maybe future plans. New throwout bearing and input seal. Oh and install my EGT probe, still doing research on best spot seems like everyone thinks differently on location. More pics to come

Forgot to take more photo's but the front crank seal and int. shaft seal are done and the housings are reinstalled, timing belt is put on but not timed yet. next is rear main seal then pan gasket and vc gasket then tap egt sensor into manifold, port intake for 52mm tb, and more.

Oh and the radiator is at a shop trying to get cleaned hopefully he can fix it, but if not I'm buying another one.

A buddy who was helping me last night came across these and purchased them for 140 bucks with the tires, granted 2 are junk, but they are motegi mr7s 5x100/114 and 17x7 42mm offset I know stock offset is 40(at 6in) so should be interesting, he said I could get em for his price, thoughts? Friend kinda slopped it on there and by the time I notice it was too late, oh well at least you dont see it

Oh and noticed while doing the throw out bearing and input seal, the transmission shaft moves, in and out also somewhat side to side/around, what causes this, would a bearing plate fix this, I would assume not since at the moment no load is on the shaft its just loose, the front bearing, behind seal looked ok.

Yes thats what's so great about the bearing retainer plate. Chrysler liked to upgrade the wrong things when the stock plate is such a flimsy piece of junk. Would have solved a lot of problems. Make sure there is not excessive wear from the movement in the shaft.

You need to put the alternator bracket on first, then that bracket will line up. I'm not sure what the deal is with that braided line, it sure doesn't look like any of the ones I've ever purchased. Honestly I would tear that trans down and put new bearings in it along with a moly plate. I guess you have an extra main shaft and case though if it explodes, I just hope it doesn't take any of the gear sets out when it happens.

Thanks for the input Ben, cant believe I didnt think that far ahead, just haven't put the mount on yet. I posted a thread about the shaft moving and whatnot people suggested it could be fixed with a bearing plate but no guarantee, but thats good enough for me, looks like I need to order a bearing plate, Not sure if I'm up for tearing apart a transmission, never done one before but at least its not an auto, I guess it can't be THAT hard, someone has to do it at the rebuild shops, and I know me, go big or go home, It'll snowball effect into well might as well install a 520 output shaft or whatever it is to make it a 555/520, then might as well install a LSD, and all new bearings, oh why not new gears, o time to paint the case, god dam cars!

well just did some research, easily over 1k and going all the way according to TU its around 1400 bucks :confused:

I seem to recall having a similar problem with my TU coolant line. I think the answer was to turn it around. One side of the bend was longer than the other, if I recall...

Chris at TU mentioned this, but I took some photos and sent them off to him for his supplier to send me a new line. Yesturday I finally finished cleaning the engine bay, got our gas powerwasher hooked up and it worked great, did the engine bay and what I could of the bottom of the car since it was coated in oil, blew off some undercoating though, So I guess I'll have to go back and fix that. On a sad note when I was inspecting the underside I have rust started at the seam in the front by the front floor pans.

The clutch is less then 2 years old, it was launched with drag radials a couple times but no dumping of the clutch, only with street tires. Bummed to see this since the clutch was great besides this, I can actually move the hub around and as you can see one spring is about ready to fall out. I guess from a good point better to notice it now then to have it grenade everything.

When we redesigned the swingvalves to fit both Ford and Chrysler turbine housings we had to extend the mounting ears. If we remove the extension then it could not be used in the Ford application. Shortening the one manifold mounting stud and using a low profile nut will provide additional clearance. We also recommend installing the turbo on the manifold without the swingvalve first then grinding the SV would not be required.

I wish, but the plans are to put a spare 340 motor into it.

Its really hard to decide to even go that route with the price of crate motors, you can buy a 408 with around 450hp for 5-6k, seems like a great deal IMO

Update on the car, I spend literally all week putting it back together, got the clutch and Coolant line back monday. Had another issue with the coolant line but no big deal. Went and installed the motor and got it running, note to self no matter how bad the car runs set the dist timing by light!!! Anyways Got it together for the first time Thrusday night, and fought a running issue, and fuel pump wiring issues, where the wires go though the sending unit along with replacing the FP pigtail, thought I fixed that. So finally got it running good friday night and the Throwout bearing was making noise, tore it back apart friday night, Lowered the trans Sat morning and everything looked ok, both of the tabs on the TOB were right, So I Installed another timken bearing I had laying around that I bought before I knew I needed a clutch, thank god I did get it already cause I had to order it. Reinstalled it all and was able to drive it up to my dri Saturday around 4pm. I had a family get together I went to, come back home its raining and same issue with the fuel pump. I'm going to tear the sender out and throw it away and replace it with another used one, I'm tired of this crap. Well anyways thats what todays plans are.

To update I fixed my fuel pump sender issue, but also since I have the fp and headlights hooked to relays the ground wasnt tight on the battery since I was in a hurry to leave towards the end(from pervious post for family things), sender was still bad so it needed to be fixed. I've been driving it around for a while, took it to the local strip last night and it ran alright but is giving me a code 13, I didnt run at the track just watched, I did some tests at work on it with a scan tool, man I have to get one of those things very nice! Tried swapping the map out with an extra with worse luck, today I may do some more diagnosing and see, I also Installed a rear set of nice Pioneers that were donated to me from Ben, thanks! car sounds great with them in! Also found out my transmission leaks slightly, went to work to fix it and it was actually leaking from between a plate that holds the bearings in place, this is the plate located after the moly plate, bummer and Had a valvecover gasket leak, fixed that now the motor is leak free. I was thinking of having your mechanic at work do the trans Since I dont wanna pull the bearing center plate out and have everything come falling out, but the leak is very very minimal. Oh and after I was backing the car out of the shop after fixing VC and attempting the trans I backed into my Girlfriends car, she parked slightly in front of the door and I did look behind me but the dam tint is too dark when its dark out, oh well no biggy, I was honestly more pissed about the trans since I know its something I wont do, body work is easy! Just cracked some paint on the bumper didnt hurt the black part just the red so its really easy to fix just gotta take the time to do it now. The car runs pretty good minus the map code, you can really hear the turbo suck/pushing air, kind of a bummer since the power doesnt hit you like a ton of bricks or as fast as the stocker, Im really interested in what an intercooler will do to the car, since its gotta be a huge drag on the car now, at 15psi it wont spin the tires while driving in first but thats probably good though, dont go anywhere by spinning!

As far as other things My dad ordered a top for the 600es on friday, should be here Wednesday then to install it, that should be interesting I'll post a lot of pictures in its thread to help others out, also ordered a PDR, paintless dent repair tool set Wednesday Should have been here yesterday but its looking more like Monday. I've also started doing painting at work I really enjoy that, especially getting well rounded in the auto body world, I can now about do anything, the only thing I haven't don't at work is major panel repair, like qt panels and box sides. Other recent things I've been working on my bike, 77 RD 400, I thought I had it figured out even rode it down the road about a mile without issues, seemed too good to be true, well it was cause I it has no spark whatso ever on the LH side, after a while, oh the joys of cars and bikes, always working on them.
