Damn Broose, all the time we've known each other and you still can't spell my name? Anyhow, we'll provide burgers, dogs, and soft drinks during the event. We need to get a date set as the Saturdays fill up rather quickly when Bob isn't racing. So who is ready to do this?

Before I came to work here, I had my cars aligned here. Brian Slowe's car was just plain evil going down the track before Bob aligned his car. A lot of the TD crowd has had alignments done here. The alignment guy isn't running the dyno anyhow. If you'd like a really good alignment done that day, so be it. We'll do one up for you. I have the shims here in stock.

I had Bob do a 4 wheel alignment on my SRT-4 after installing the lowering springs. I have never ever seen a tech take such care and pride in their craft. He just wasn't satisfied until it was exactly where he wanted it.
When I took it out for a ride it pulled to the left a little.
My tires were pretty chopped up from the short time I had driven the car between installing the springs and getting it aligned. He assured me that the pull would go away once the tires wore back in, and he was right. Tracks nice and straight now and tire wear is dead perfect.

cool what do you think it should cost for the rear to be done

BadFastGTC
03-11-2009, 09:08 AM
A complete four wheel with rear adjustments will run $268.50 plus tax (1 hr each side to adjust including adjustment shims). Basic alignment is $80.00. So 80 +140 +36.00 for shims, 12.50 misc. shop supplies = the $268.50. We can put whatever specs you'd like or be happy to suggest some. I've done mine a few different ways and can provide you that input based on what you do with the car.

So what is the tally so far?

We also have a few surprises in store for everyone that I can't discuss right now, but wait until you see!

Should anyone so desire, I can bang out a few oil changes if you are interested in switching to Red Line oil. We also stock MTL for the transaxles and D4ATF for automatics. Should anyone desire some, let me know as soon as possible and I'll be sure and have it here. I would only need to know which oil weight you'd need.

I was planning to run the Lancer, but not that day. I'm going to do some camshaft testing. Right now, the Lancer has a turbo issue that I'm going to look into this weekend. Sucks, but since the thing has been in operation since 1995 on and off, I can't complain.

Should be a pretty fun day looking at the diversity of the line up so far!

You can go prior to Bruce or after Bruce at the end of the cars running. We can prep a schedule of the cars if everyone desires. Bob was asking me about that very issue this morning. When he does the Corvette club, they all want a scheduled time to run their cars and usually the owner leaves after that. I told him we are much more flexible and we'll hang out all day. He doesn't know us.... :D

I suppose we should meet at my house at 7:00AM to allow us enough time to eat and head down to the shop here. The shop is 1/2 hour away. Breakfast is a few blocks from my house and has a huge parking lot.

Glad to hear the Omni is running well.

I've been working on the Lancer to ready it for the day. I swapped out the old, bad turbo and put Sledgehammer's in it. I also put in a dual pattern cam with solid lifters. The car fired right up and sounded much crisper. Then the turbo oil feed line spewed! GRRRRRR. I'll work on that tonight.

The itinerary for the day is going to go close to this, We should all shoot to arrive at 9:00AM where we can draw to determine the order for dyno pulls, making exceptions for those who need to go last or first, whatever the situation is. We'll all have to fill out a waiver to run on the dyno. No choice here, standard operating procedure nowadays. We'll run the cars selected up until 11:00AM when we'll take a break for a demonstration of a home built jet engine. Should be pretty cool. A local guy built one just for the fun of it. It isn't large, but fun nonetheless. We also plan to have a 50/50 drawing. Food will begin to be served as soon as 10:00AM. Any one who would like to have a small parts swap meet, feel free to do so. I'm also going to display James Reeve's old cylinder head. Those of you who are getting work done and running on the dyno, we'll adjust the work schedule to the dyno schedule. That's all for now. I'll be here at work for a little extra time tonight doing some preliminary runs with the Lancer on the dyno. I tried to run some solids with a bigger dual pattern cam and although the car ran better, they didn't want to stay adjusted along with a few other issues. I'd say I got a lousy batch. So the hydraulics went back in. So call when you get a break.

Thanks Bruce. The Lancer's turbo came apart last night, just into the first run! We could tell something wasn't quite right by the way the graph was climbing, and right about 4,000 we heard a loud POP! Sounded just like a hose came off. I first looked over the hoses starting at the 'cooler. All was well until I made my way to the turbo to see if the hose came off there. The backing plate broke! The turbo is toast! It was running so strong for three days, even as I battled the issues with the solid lifters. Damn...

I suppose we should meet at my house at 7:00AM to allow us enough time to eat and head down to the shop here. The shop is 1/2 hour away. Breakfast is a few blocks from my house and has a huge parking lot.

Is there somewhere closer to Brady's to eat? It would be foolish for the crew that I'm coming with to drive all the way to your house when we're going to almost drive past Brady's.... If not no biggie, we'll stop elsewhere for food.

Thanks

Steve, I'll be getting the full monte 4 wheel alignment with rear camber adjustments.

I'll need your help in setting it up.

I drive the car 400 miles per year and will be taking it to the track at Summit Point 2x per year. I'm thinking 2 degrees neg front and 1.5 negative rear with 1/16 toe out all the way around.

Suspension setup: Koni coilovers (new from Cindy) with 450lb 7" front springs and 350lb 9" rears. Stock bushings, stock anti-sway bars, front strut bar. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, you may want me to run early if it's going to take 2 hours to dial in the suspension...

My 86 GLHS was 191 hp and 224 lbs of torque on stock internals, 14lbs of boost and a couple of bolt-on mods. Torque curve was flat from 2.5 to 5.5k which is perfect for the track.

We do have one, but it just isn't as accurate as the wideband in the bung. Why use it if the info isn't worthwhile?

If you don't have a bung it's better than nothing...IE the first 4 carbed cars that got dyno'd.

BadFastGTC
04-06-2009, 09:33 AM
Why provide inaccurate info, just to get something? That makes zero sense. Just like my O2 gauge. It reads fat, but until I had the wideband in the car on the dyno Thursday, I had no idea the A/F was as close as it was to where the thing was supposed to be. So that kind of info was useless in reality. I could have leaned the car out and potentially done some damage. The carb cars could use the same wideband via being screwed in if we had time to do so and they wanted to pay to have them done. Much more accurate and useful info.

Carroll,

Your ride was one of the boss's favorites. Also included in that list were Tim's Magnum SRT8, Mike Marra's car, and Ryan's Shadow. Letting guys have some time to sort out a few issues is what we're all about as opposed to doing the three pulls and getting the cars off the dyno. You pay your hard earned cash and we have to be flexible to help out. Cool ride you have there Bud. It was a pleasure to meet you also. Keep up the good work! I hope you get that 400 number soon.

We'd like to thank you all for attending /participating. Bob was amazed that as many of us stuck around for the whole day. (He doesn't know us very well!) Usually the 'Vette crowd wants appointments for their turn on the dyno and they ----- and moan if their time is infringed upon. They also cut out as soon as their turn is over.

We trust you all had a good time and the information was useful. We're looking forward to doing it again sometime with some improvements to the event. Thanks again for your patience and thanks to all for a really killer turnout!

If you get the new style nozzles from Devil's Own, the nozzles are external to the pipe. So you weld a bung onto the outside of your tubing, then you don't have to remove the pipe to change nozzles. It's pretty cool!

What a blast !!!!!!!
1st off big thanks to Steve for getting this all together for us and
Bob Brady what a professional and well run shop, I've never been so relaxed running my car on a dyno since my car came off of a dyno !
I would highly recommend him for anyone thinking of dynoing their car
Very easy to work with, knowledgable on a wide range of cars and just a great overall attitude

A dyno on a wooden floor in a hanger style loft, it doesn't get any cooler

Mike Marra that little button is way too cool
Mike Wah I've got '86 S envy
Carrol that thing is freakin cool, gotta love a 16v
Troy junyard whore
Craig little T1 that could !
Brian dammmmnnnnnnnn

1st pull way rich, Troy's welded wastgate flange held up great while glowing red !
pulled 5lbs fuel, car started to come alive, 2 degrees timing and the turbo spools nicely now
Car is great to @ 5,000 then just flatlines (car did this on the dyno before, but didn't have any problem pulling to 7,000rpm a week later running 10's at Cecil)
thought I may have an ignition problem, pulled the 6 month old Talyor wires to find 3 torn boots
Mike Marra instantly gave me his, no difference on the dyno
swapped plugs, closed the gap, no difference
changed cam timing 5', no difference
So after a little consuling we came to conclusion we think the convertor is cavitating, I've been fighting convertors in this thing since day one

Well I'm still happy, only thing broken is the shiter cable (don't ask, sorry Bob for the vise grip)
the Turbo's unleashed held up nicely and seems to work great
The car comes right up on spool, the air/fuel is set and safe, and hopefully a good conv. will help me pick up some too

Here's some pics
If anyone wants higher res. (10mpeg) pics lmk

Great day indeed. Heck, it made me register on this site. You all have some great cars. I may have to build a car myself.

Had a good time, nice to see you all yesterday. Bob's is a very nice place. For my runs, I was kind of disapointed with my results though. I think it could've been higher, but driving 70 miles to the shop, kinda killed it. I also went second, so maybe it would have been higher with more cool down time? Anyway I pulled 301 rwhp and 327 ft-lbs torque. For being stock, I think the torque is about right.

I wish I was there. I was stuck sanding doorjams and Bpillars on 86 GLHS #480, since the hardener was bad... lesson learned from it all, never (I repeat never) spray excess mixed paint where you don't really need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if something goes wrong, you've just added a weeks worth of work to your project! hahaha

I had a good time. Thank you Steve and Brady's for putting on this event and being hospitable. I got some good advice from people on the Shadow. I am taking the heat wrap off the car. I think this should be an annual event. Does anyone agree?

Your car was amazing, it literally sung as it revved at it's limit. I didn't hear another car with that sound all day.

The real trooper of the day was Bob's wife. She hung in there, cooking burgers and dogs in 30+ mph winds! Steve and Bob (and wife) you were terrific hosts and your shop is nastalgic. It reminded me of the barns on the farm where I grew up...how old are those floors anyway? I second that for making this an annual event. Great times.

Hey thanks!

I am going to get a compilation video together at some point. I may have to buy some cheap video editing software.

Looks like a good time was had by all!

How did Slowe do?

He started out being strong willed...."I'm not running it","Just hear to watch" yada yada. But deep down he wanted to strap it down and after some persuasion he loaded it up. Very conservative tune(9:1 a/f and 18lbs)he put down 37X. He couldn't go over 7K because the 26" slicks started rubbing the chassis because it was strapped down. Power curve looked like Mt.Everest until the BC kicked in and then it was as flat as Nicole Richie. I think he wants to wait until the 25th to show us his real tune and what I can do.

Steve, you guys are the bomb. Dialed my suspension in to the T. Just like their website says....

Dead-on spec--Not just within tolerance

Also, my dad drove around for 30 minutes trying to find some beer for you guys (he never was a drinker), so I'll be sending you something soon. Hint....He won the 24 hour of Lemans back in 1959.

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

As long as you are happy, that is all that matters. We'll be looking forward to the surprise though. Give 'em hell on the track!
