Great idea on the bracket. You might try elongated holes, might "look" better. More work though.

I would like for you to make a list of the NEXT 10 people that either join or renew their membership to SDAC starting 2-12-09. Then I want you to assign a number 1-10 to those people. Then e-mail the list and I will pull a number from those 10. That person will get a FREE, two night stay at the upcoming SDAC, at the Hotel Headquarters courtesy of the Green Family.

Since this is for the next 10 people, it will include only those that renew or join on the SDAC website using PayPal, and will not include those sent in by US mail. This way I will have a time stamp on the email notice I get from PayPal.

I suggest we modify the procedure slightly to make the contest 'blind'. Once we have the 10 eligible folks, I will notify you of such, and you can pick a number from one to ten, and notify me of the selection. Then I will send the list of the 10 names with their time/date stamp to establish the order. And you can announce the winner.

Note, folks do not need to have a PayPal account to join or renew their SDAC membership via PayPal. PayPal will take a valid credit card from those without accounts.

BUT, I wish you wouldn't. Please do me a favor and fill out the form (as you did). I file a paper copy of the form as a reference and if you don't fill one out, then I have to copy your info to a blank form by hand so I will have a copy for the book. :D

BrianWhen someone completes their payment, PayPal is supposed to send them back to the SDAC website to fill out a membership form (the "return url" option). Sometimes it doesn't happen and I don't know the cause, whether they leave the PayPal site before it can return them, or whether it is just the fault of PayPal.

The only problem I've ever had with PayPal (that I know of) is not sending me the payment notice. That happens maybe about once every 50 or so payments. If I get the membership form and no notice from PP, then I go to their website and see the payment listed.

Doing the membership form this way, was because at the time (4-5 years ago) PP didn't have a friendly customizable user input that allowed enough fields. They do have that now and I may change the way it is done and use their site to collect all the info, but it is not a high priority item for me since we have a system that usually works.

When you are finished at PayPal and PayPal says it is "sending you back to SDAC" it sends you to the form if you wait for it.

BrianThe normal renewal/join confirmation letters for most folks (including yours) were mailed yesterday. For the folks that renewed last night, or that will renew this weekend, their letters will go out Tuesday (Monday is a holiday, PO is closed).
