I must be blind or suck at searching cause i cannot find any info on hp/tq numbers for gm's stage III kit for the ions and cobalts, so far I've come across it has 'provisions' for No2.
Reason i ask is some local guy is talking up a redline, and claiming he is going to install stage III with a heat exchanger(ic), just though id read up on what im going to need to beat him  :eyebrows:
Thanks guys

Yeah and if you read the GM High Performance book they recommend changing the rods at 250 hp....

thanks for the link and the mention of the weak rods  I can believe the kit doesn't seem to be that 'great' 260hp on 100oct. doesn't seem like that much to me, especially since I would assume those are Flywheel numbers, are the cars underrated alot(hp wise) or something:confused:
I mean hell there is a topic here that people can make about 250 hp on the stock turbo and maybe even the stock intercooler, plus they are 8v heads and 20 years old

The new ones are 260hp/260ftlbs torque. They are turbocharged and run 0-60 in roughly 5.8 seconds. The older ones were supercharged and rated at 205hp.

'rated at 205hp' and would put that to the front wheels. My friend has an 04 Ion RL, and he dynod 202 to the ground totally stock. GM underrated them for insurance purposes. They are 'limited' to ONLY 12.5psi because of the bypass valve that can have its vacuum line on so easily removed, thus raising the total pressure to 14.

There's no vacuum line to remove on a supercharger? Is there???
I only ask because "jim" up the street from me has a blown SS with many mods(pulley, O2 sims and a "chip") and before Omni died I'd kick his --- every time..

My New Yorker ate one those those supercharged POS's for lunch and it's basically a stock T2 setup.

I've beaten one before in the daughter's 95 Neon ACR. Granted he had 3 people in the car. It was pretty close, 3 lengths. But reving to 8K and basically flat shifting made a world of difference!
We talked after and he was shocked to find out it was a stock Neon.

Yes. it doesnt have positive manifold pressure all the time. remember, there is still that throttle plate that creates the intake vacc.
the cobalts were slower then the redlines because of the weight difference. tupperware > sheet metal

There's a WORLD of difference between the supercharged models and the newer turboed ones. The turboed ones can be VERY fast as it has the same drivetrain as the Saturn Sky. The new ones are basically 13 sec cars from the showroom floor and the old supercharged ones are turds(think- stock turbo PT Cruiser slow).

good way to look at it, yeah i agree the older ones are slow, glad gm saw the light and went turbo, wait how long ago did Chrysler do that....25 years ago...hm finally the others are catching on to what Chrysler has done all along, that happens alot

I would hardly call them turds.. We forget that a mid 14s 4cyl car is faster then what ours did back when they were new..
We also forget that those engines make more power on less displacement with the same boost levels that ours came with.. AND how chryslers 2.4l turbo engine put out the same HP levels as a 2.0l WRX. So if you dare to compare what GM has done to what chrysler has done, make sure you are compareing the apples to apples.
I have seen plenty of those supercharged cars hit 13's with very little effort.. Yes GM went to turbochargers and the output rose 60hp+ to 265hp out of a 2.0/2.2l platform. With that kind of power to displacement, the SRT4 (neon) should have been well ahead of the pack with 280+ not a dainty 224.. Isnt that the same output that the 2.2 TIII had? Odd... Why up the displacement and keep the power level the same.....

It will never be apples and apples. The "original" td's were 25 years ago with much older designed motors and they were pitted against 6cyl fwd and 8 cyl rwd cars which they outperformed. Think about if they had continued the technology, where would it be? The srt4 picked up right where the spirit rt left off. I encourage you to pop the hood on both and compare. And just to make the comparison apples and apples.. here's an orange. The srt4, wrx, cobalts are entry level compact cars. You might see a spirit rt and "see" a compact by todays standards but when it was new it was a larger mid-size platform in the dodge lineup, the compact was the shadow. Also it has been proven time and time again that chrysler has understated the power output of the srt4's. Chrysler also understated performance of the old cars as well. The national speed limit was 55, government imposed regulations limited performance and power, smog, etc. Most of the safety agencies didn't want a car to be able to do 0-60 better than 7 sec and neither did some gov't institutions either and they applied tremendous pressure/penalties on the car companies. Thanks ralphy nader, lol. Today the cars are compared to other 4 cyl sport compacts. Respectively looking at the power and times of the original td's and their potential, that isn't bad considering they are 25 years old with severely outdated technology. Most cars with well over 120K miles and numerous owners and 8 valves, not 16 DOHC! Shelby really started something with these cars, I doubt the wrx, cobalt, srts will survive as long. Mid-14's better than our cars? You must be referring to a T1 car so let's define "our" cars? MY cars are GLHS, CSX, SL, and Spirit RT which routinely do low14's or better all with well over 100K with the exception of one.
