I'm going to try my best to document the entire install as best I can for those do-it-yourselfers.....

Both your cars look great.......though I'm a little more partial to the CSX which is just beautiful. I definately look forward to the thread since I hope my Shadow will be fast enough to need a cage this summer. I also noticed in your sig the 3 point strut tower bar which is what I wanted to make but have never seen before. Do you find it seems more solid than the standard type bars?

I really can't say for certain if it's more solid than standard type bars since I've never run one, but I can't imagine a 2 point stiffens the front end as much as a 3 point would.

Here's a few pic's of what I've got so far while I'm waiting on materials to show up. You can see in the first pic that I've used some masking tape on the insides of the B pillars. I then make marks on the tape at 2" intervals on the straighter areas and 1" intervals where it gets more complicated. I do this on both sides and then take the measurements from side to side. I then transfer the data to a 3D CAD program. The reason I do this is to help achieve a close fit between the hoop and the body. Yeah its allot of extra work, but so far all of the hoops that I've made have fit like a glove...

You'll also notice that I have made a cardboard template of the 6"x6" mounting plates just to aid in finding the best placement for them

I'll post a pic of the 3D model and draft tomorrow since I don't have it here at home...

you might need to throw a bracket from the cross bar on the main hoop to the back of the seat

go figure

Hope you didn't base the seat/cage off of Kyle :D

Finally finished the interior.

I severly "lightened" the body harness (all lights work though), did some cutting to pull out weight (skinned hood, lightened hatch/doors, a few holesaws in the back which was a waste of time), painted it all John Deer Blitz Black, which is a durable satin black. The roll bar is red, which matches the home made strut tower bar, panhard bar, front and rear sway bars, valve covers and intake. I think it looks pretty darn cool.

Not sure I can loose much more weight for the cause. I don't want to slide my --- around too much in that seat I picked up from you!

I'm really only concerned with NHRA at this point, which specifically states you need padding where the noggin can hit. I've been through tech at the drag strip with no problems. I'm good...for now.:D

I meant me...that I'm not losing any more weight! I'm already a bit of a lightweight.

I took some weight out of the doors, but not as much as I could. I need to keep a neat look for the GRM event and keep budget low. The likely scenario is that after GRM, the doors will get the full treatment.

ScottD

Looks good!!!

As far as further weight reduction I'm disappointed you haven't applied the same creativity to yourself as you have the car. I'll give you a helping hand.

1) Fast for one week prior to the event.
2) Take ex-lax the night before to make sure your rear exhaust is completely cleared out.
3) Shave all your body hair.
4) Get the holesaw out and lighten up that bulky helmet you'll be wearing
5) Wear lightweight water shoes, a wife beater t-shirt, and the lightest jeans you can find.
