Picked it up yesterday with 180k on the clock but it sure feels like less then that. Its a two door sport coupe with the SOHC and a 5speed also had tan interior:eyebrows:. It runs good and has way better heat then the shadow does. First mods are going to be new headlights and some booger bushings.:)

Congrats!

Are they desirable? I did a little research and know that they are all Nitro Yellow Green. Any other features specific to them or are they just cool because of the rare color?

The only flashy color like NYG is Magenta, I knew a girl with a 1996 Magenta neon.

NYG was a one year ('95) only "flashy" or "neon" color option, so it is kind of rare/desireable to enthusiasts... who like the obnoxious color :D

Another NYG owner checking in! Congrats! 180K is *just* getting broken in! Mine has 242,XXX on it now...
They're def fun. Might be time to freshen up the suspension on yours if not already done. I put new stock suspension goodies on mine at the 220K mark. WHAT a WORLD of difference!

definitely looks better than my 95 in some boring shade of grey. i got a 95 sport sedan sohc mtx.

I think they are cool cars.. cant wait to get my odometer working again so i can verify rumors of 40mpg capability...

congrats! i also like your signature pic of the shadow. Do you have a site or a thread with all the info on that one?

Kybs are going on down the road along with some bigger wheels/tires id like to do some auto x in it. As of right now I might be needing a water pump im leaking coolant from somewhere in that area.

As a note... for mine I went inexpensive... and that ACTUALLY meant KYB's in the rear and stock Mopar in the front. Along with new mounts. Then NAPA bushings and ball joints. Then it took me about 2 hours to get the 4wheel alignment where I wanted it. But, it was WELL worth it.
I just put a new timing belt and water pump on mine only to find out that it wasn't actually the pump that was leaking. It was the Oring on the water pump inlet. The inlet pipe is sandwiched between the intake and the block, so I had to pull the intake off to access it. If you go with NAPA, I'd recommend getting a Timing Belt Kit, which will have the belt and applicable pulleys. And it's MUCH cheaper than pricing each piece out.
As for my experiences with the car I've seen a best of 37MPG with 90% of that tank used on the highway. It's typically around 32-33MPG in mixed driving. SOHC / 3.55 car BTW.

The Sport Coupes came with the improved Arvin struts that were better than the other Neons but not quite adustible Konis either. They were the same ones used later on the Neon R/Ts. If your car has cheap regular replacements, then your aren't even as good as they were new! Sounds like you need to get some better ones on there. Then she will embarrass your Shadow around the cones!

turboshadow
01-08-2009, 11:19 AM
Ha I think it already will kick the shadows butt around the cones:eyebrows: I just need a decent day to go though it check the timing belt and see how it looks along with seeing where my leak is coming from, hopefully its that o ring I dont feel like having to take this car apart thats what the shadow is for:lol:

Looks like next weekend we tear into a Neon for the first time, we're gonna do timing belt / water pump just to be safe..... :)

That car drives nice!!!

When I saw it at the impound I *knew* it would find a place in the family stable.... MUHAHAHAHA!!!!

I found one of these in my local PNP yard a few weeks ago. It was trashed unfortunately. I didn't snap a pic of it though.

Nice NYGs, gentlemen!

There is one near me that looks to be in very decent condition. I'm just waiting until I see a F/S sign on it. I may approach the owner this spring to let them know that if they decide to ever sell the car to call me first :thumb:

Lucky for you you got the coupe, which has the struts, and a rear sway, i believe, that my 95 sport doesnt have because its a sedan.

I bought mine with a broken trans and swapped one out of a stratus into it. Im purty sure its a 3.94 unit. Havent checked the tags. Mine seems to be quicker than what i was expecting when i got it and i believe its that tranny swap thats responsible. I took out a 2.3/5spd mazda 3 with at least a muffler, on the highway the other day and it looks like those trap 87-89 stock so im doing ok so far...

Stratus MTX is the 3.94 ratio... same as the Performance Manual "B" for the Neon.

The first Gen R/Ts ('98 & '99) used the "performance" Arvin struts.

Wait so you mean that funny looking neon puke color is really rare and worth something>? Ok Now I feel really stupid I had a chance to buy one last year for 500 bucks but passed as I didnt like the color lol talk about LOUD!!! and I saw it in a JY just a few weeks ago.

But there is another one running around same area which is kinda funny cuz I know they aint the same by the paint fade in different spots. But there is one more out here in salt lake I have seen around and one is for sale but not really interested in it unless there is something else special about it other than color?

Vigo

you could say its the most desirable neon color. I personally wouldnt go out of my way for it, but maybe thats because 1g neons are kinda tough to find down here so i couldnt be picky in the first place :(

Nice NYG! I own one as well and the colour really grows on you. Those crab wheels look really good on the car! I installed Koni yellows all around and it's a monster in the corners now! I also did the Mopar Performance computer, Front mount and bobble strut.

Fun little cars, I have a 97 sport coupe too! Mine however is a DOHC. The shell has seen better days (300kish) but still a blast! I just put KYB-GR2's and 95 ACR springs on it. Handles SOO MUCH BETTER! Its starting to smoke though, time for a rebuild or a new car.
