Hi folks,

The phord beater lives! Got my Escort running again finally, ported the head to stage 2ish. but I was a dumbass and left the handbrake on, so the back brakes are seized...

So anyone know any subtle and clever ways to unstick them? I've tried reversing it hard, which I've found to work before on some cars, but it didn't work. Next step is to BFH the drums with the wheels off... which is about my only idea... thinking of trying a torch on the drums but my torch is so weak they'd probably just heat the whole thing up too slow.

Any other ideas?

thanks,

RW222

I would think you could teleport them off.

If you don't have a teleporter, then back off the adjuster.

Doh, adjuster, yeah, better back that off before I pound them.

Not sure about that car, but usually you stick a slim screwdriver to push on the adjuster finger then back off the toothed wheel.

Rocking back and forth should work. Is it cold there? maybe try hot water on the drum!!!!

The adjuster is wierd on these, no hole in the back to adjust. It sticks out the top though and connects to the parking brake cable... Had to jiggle that one side the cable was a little sticky..

Anyway, BFH won the day... kudos to Ford for a neat design thing, though it bit me in the arse, one side freed up then wouldn't turn more than 90 degrees or so, thought the shoe had come adrift... so had to take the drum off to see... well there's these two tapped holes that take a M6 bolt, so you can force the drum off the hub, neat! ... apart from the cheapass bolt I used sheared off in one hole.... gah :banghead: ... well there was about 1/4 inch of lining off the leading shoe decided to stay stuck to the drum... just popped off as soon as I stuck a screwdriver under it, but held a hell of a lot of force trying to break it free otherwise... guess I'll be putting new shoes in it, but I'll let these ones clean up the drum a bit first, though the the drums really aren't too bad at all.... anyway, took longer getting that bolt out of the drum than anything else... drilled through it, put a screw extractor in it, hauled on that, broke that! :banghead: ... so thought "screw it" and ground it off level.

Boiling water might have been an idea, it was -5C out there today, but I was slightly chicken on that one, due to wondering if the water would get inside and freeze and give me additional hassles.

I'd check the shoes, my neon's rear wheels were seized when I bought it and when I went to replace the shoes a few months later the friction material fell off!

Yeah, won't run 'em long, didn't have too-too much material on 'em.

Went for a drive, didn't WOT it yet, but so far feels as peppy as a Neon. Flexpipe fell off though :banghead: Exhaust work tomorrow I guess.

LOL

It sounds more like someone trying to get through the floor with a jackhammer.

It sounded more like a Neon when I first fired it up, 'coz all the lifters were collapsed.
