I'm going to have my R/Ts A568 rebuilt soon. I'm wondering if it will be worth it to have the 3.50 gear from a A523 installed into it. Basically I'd like to have lower RPMs cruising on the highway and I think it would help with traction too.

How much power should my R/T be making to really take advantage of the lower final drive at the dragstrip? I don't want to be up against the rev limiter in 4th gear at the end of the 1/4.....but the R/T weights a lot so maybe I should keep the stock 3:85 gear.

Also, are the parts needed to do the A568/A523 available from Mopar? Seems like it makes more sense to buy the new parts rather than track down and ship an A523.

If it were me, I would do it if I was putting down 300+ HP in a full weight spirit R/T.

I don't know if the parts are available from the dealer though.

Yes I most definitely would do it, especially once you break 300-350hp.

As far as getting the parts new, they would cost you an arm and a leg if still available and they are most likely ns1. You can drop by the dealer and check, but you would be suprised at how much a main shaft and matching diff can run.

OK, I just wasn't sure if the lower # gears would hurt the car since it weighs a lot compared to my other cars. I have an A568 in my Shelby Lancer and I shift to 5th at ~110 MPH.

I have a 3.05 geared A525 in my Omni GLH and I feel it helped it a lot, especially with the 2.5L in the car. I could probably bring that car up to 120 MPH in 4th gear easily. Better traction, more MPH gained in every gear, lower cruising RPMs, and the torque seems more manageable. The car gets up and goes to 35 MPH in 1st very quickly!
