I went to the Chyrsler/Dodge parts counter today and asked for a tube of Mopar RTV. I bring the stuff home and read the label and it says, "Mopar ATF-RTV". On the back label it says, "Silicone Rubber RTV developed specifically to retain sealing and adhesion properties when exposed to automatic transmission fluid."

Part #05010884AA

Is this the right stuff to use for oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket etc. for 2.2/2.5?

The last tube I bought a few years ago didn't say anything about ATF, just not sure if this is the right stuff??

Also, a couple years ago I bought a tube of Mopar Gasketmaker. It's the red anaerobic sealant. It's been sitting on a shelf in my garage unused for a couple years. Is it still OK to use? It's hasn't had a cap on the tube, but when I squeezed some out it looked the same as ever.

I'd buy a new tube but it's about $15!

1st question, not to sure but I have used reg RTV on engines and trans and it sealed so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around.

Anerobic only gets hard without air, so if its still gooey, its still good. :thumb:

Ok good to know. That Gasketmaker is expensive stuff! It was the parts manager that sold the RTV to me and he seems pretty knowledgeable about Mopars so I'm pretty sure he gave me the right stuff.

Not sure about using the gasket master on the oil pan. I used it for my intermediate shaft retainter plate and the front and rear main seal retainers. I want to use some on my tranny cause it seeps just a bit. But as simon stated as long as it see's air it's still good.

I'm not going to use the Gasketmaker (anaerobic) on the oil pan; I only got it for the front/rear/intermediate shaft seal housings. I'll use RTV on the oil pan.

There's 3 different Mopar RTVs....

ATF-RTV (dark black and smells horrible)

Engine-RTV (Black/greyish)

Gear Lube-RTV (Light grey)

Choose accordingly. ;)

y not use it on the pan? The newer chryslers when you go and ask for a pan gasket, they hand you a tube of silicone.

I have the 4-piece oil pan gasket. I've never used silicone with it, except for the time I had to replace the gasket with the engine in the car. I had to use the RTV to keep the gasket in place since I was working upside down.
