How many 16v heads came with the exhaust in the front of the EC? I know the Avenger did, but even so, were all avenger heads, 2.0-2.4l the same and if not. Which is THE BEST front exhaust 16v head out there?

sebring, avenger, eclipse... anything 420A all the same?

Yep, 420a engine, Neon for sure, you say Avenger, not sure on what else. 2.0 and 2.4 head is the same, 99 and older is one style, 2000 and up is the SRT4 style.

NOT the Neon - it was a rear exhaust head.

The Avenger, Sebring, Eclipse, Talon (base models) all used the front exhaust head. It's the same as the Neon (rear exhaust) head except that the ports are swapped front to rear. Same valve train, hardwre, etc. The reverse head will bolt onto any block that the Neon heads will bolt onto (2.0, 2.4, hybrid with the same modifications)...

never let a neon fanatic hear you say 420A and neon in the same sentence.

As rob said, neon, stratus and pt cruiser have the exhaust against the fire wall. The 1st gen avengers/sebrings and 2gen eclipses have exhaust in front.

So, does one flow any better than the other? If I'm going to bolt this to an SRT block, can I bolt up the old 99 style the same as the 2000 and newer style? Which would be the Head of choise? Thanks for all the info so far!

Sorry, got my thinking backwards, I knew that, my bad, :(

From what I've read, the newer one is slightly better out of the box but with porting, both are just as good. Of course if you want to use an SRT turbo, the later head is a better choice due to the ports matching, thats also one of the differences-port shape.

But, the SRT/PT head only came in rear-exhaust. The front exhaust heads were '95-00 (?) only.

Now I'm getting a little confused. So, there is NO 2000 and up front exhaust head? Not even on the 2.4 Avenger?

The Avenger ended in '99 (I think). The 2.4 in the 2000+ Stratus coupe was a Mitsubishi-built engine. It shares nothing with the Chrysler 2.0/2.4.

When I Google Avenger, it shows 07, 08 and 09's with 2.4l mtrs.

Flow vs. flow, in stock form, they are similar... talking about only both rear exhaust heads.

'99 and older DOHC 2.0L/2.4L heads
-larger exhaust valves
-oval ports

'01+ 2.4L PT turbo/SRT-4 turbo heads
-smaller exhaust valves
-square ports

This was one I pulled from a '97 Sebring, came with a 2 piece upswept intake. I don't have this anymore, sold it.

Yeah, that's a whole OTHER car/motor. That's the same engine as the Caliber.

So there's only 1 Avenger front exhaust 16v head, it's from a 2.0l, it's up to 1999 production and it's like the one that boost geek posted. Thanks for the help! Does it come with the same profile 2.0l cams as the Neon 16v head? (I know they would be non-interchangeable cams, just wondering if they would have the same profile/specs)

Is there much choise in cams for these heads, or do you need to get a custom grind?

I'm pretty sure you can use a 2.4/2.0 cam with minor mods...

I was under the impression that I couldn't use 2.0/2.4 cams. Anyone able to verify this?

They make all the normal grind Crane cams for it, up to 18's.
