Im selling this for a friend. My buddy bought it off of gary donovan a few years ago and just drove it around. ive helped him with some little things over the years that he had it.

its a 91 R/T with a 2.5L that runs good and a 523 trans with what I believe to be a actual R/T clutch. the pedal is a little stiffer than a regular clutch provides. trans shifts good and smooth.

the car has some engine bay wiring harness issues. its a R/T Harness converted to run an 8v. i believe the problems are due to loose connections in the 60 way. those are easily remedied. i cleaned as many connectors as i could under the hood. those issues make the car run on 3 cyls as of now. that may be remedied if i can get enough time before sale.

turbo is a mitsu and works but the wastegate rod keeps popping off the pin cause the cotter pin is missing.

good thing though, the car comes with an extra 91 spirit 8V harness though, a R/T SBEC and a socketed 8V SBEC with the high torque 2.5L cal burned to the chip.

body is super solid. a little rust at the inside bottom of a door or two and maybe the trunk lid as well. its a 91 white R/T so it needs paint. :) Gary fogged it with a spraycan before sale but it needs it again and there is a little rust on the roof. not bad at all. floor is rock solid.

interior is in decent shape. rear pass window needs a little work. take apart and regrease and check wiring. pass front window is a little sticky at times but works pretty well. i took it apart and regreased everything a little ways back.

suspension is stock and probably original. prev to Gary owning the car, someone clamped the stock springs one coil. car comes with suspension techniques springs.

its a really solid car but needs a little tinkering and some TLC to make it really nice.

Ill have some pics Friday.

1500$ obo.

looking good tony.

shoot, if i knew you were going to get a spirit, id have sold you mine for cheap. super clean underneath and waaaaay less roof rust. its an R/T too but with a 2.5L 8v in it.

Brian

I see what you meant about less roof rust! That one would be a whole lot easier to get looking nice than my ES was. Seriously, somebody should buy this car, repaint it, and document the repaint. It's fun (no, that's not sarcasm), not very expensive, and you get to take lots of nifty before and after pics.:thumb: Plus you're getting the benefits of an R/T (brakes, suspension, etc) without having to worry about expensive 16v parts.

If I wasn't broke and over my limit on cars, I'd be all over that.

Brian, I may be intrested in it if you could possibly get it running correctly. If you got it running correctly will this car be able to be driven back to my house? Also, is there any rust underneath it? Pics of that? Id appreciate man lmk. :)

Also, whats with the picture of the snowflake rim and no snowflakes on the car?

Aries_Turbo
11-04-2008, 11:16 PM
yeah i should be able to get it running to get it to your house. it runs right now but not the greatest. i probably just need to go over the 60 way a little.

as you can see the snowflakes are on that k car in the background. they will be back on the car though for you.

rust underneath? i dont think there is any. I can take a look and a pic though. ill see if i can swing over there tomorrow and get a pic.

Brian

Aries_Turbo
11-04-2008, 11:17 PM
btw, i probably wont be able to work on it till sunday though. i can grab the pic though.

you may not have much boost to drive it home though. ill see if i can get the wastegate arm to stay on a little better.

Brian

11-05-2008, 12:13 PM

Well, if you could do that stuff let me know underneath the car is important to me because of past issues ive had heh.

Aries_Turbo
11-05-2008, 11:14 PM
yeah i can see why the underbelly check would be important. ill try to get over there as soon as possible to get a few more pics and to do some tinkering.

anyone have the story on why the paint peels on these
i remember my dad told me it cause he had an acclaim and he said something like all the lighter color ones paint some thing about the guy who was painting them was sweating all over the cars and a reaction with his deodorant under the paint makes it just peel off?
i dont completely remember the whole story

the paint peeled because certain paints had bad UV resistance. i heard that the paint let the UV through, killing the primer/sealer.

The car was saved from certain death-

It was Seth Pentisis' car when he was living out here in New England and he picked up and moved to California. The car was sitting at his old place with no drivetrain and slated to be dragged off to the boneyard and crushed.

I towed the car back to my place and brought it back to life with a 2.5 and a stick. The car was very, very solid with no rust that I can recall.

It looked much nicer with a fresh 50 foot spray can paint job, lol. Looks like most of the original paint blew off and left the rattlecan paint behind!

Aries_Turbo
01-19-2009, 12:43 PM
yup, thats the one. its amazing how strong that rattlecan paint is lol.

it has a little rust here and there now but it wasnt driven in the winter so its still solid. i have too many cars or id be tinkering around with it and possibly putting a 2.4L-T in it.

I'm going to miss it, the Spirit has been a real good reliable car. Never broken down, never left me on the side of the road, hell the only major work done to the car since it was assembled was a ball joint on the passenger side and some alternator bushings.

And tires, lots of front tires.

Aries_Turbo
05-10-2009, 08:57 AM
Does it still have wiring issues?

yes cause no one has touched the car at all. its more like connector issues. the 60 way on the sbec needs to be taken apart and cleaned and some of the pins tightened. you get a code 27 alot for injector driver and the car misses on one cyl. as stated earlier, i have a good 2.5L 8v spirit harness for the car.

Man i want a spirit RT but really want the 16v motor. I am at a delema now, buy a running 16v or buy this one for less than half the typical running 16v costs and make do, or spend the triple number and have what i really want lol. This is killing me. I can drive up and get it now or anytime. This 8v thing is just urkin on me so BAD lol. I have an 8v already!!! What to do haha

Aries_Turbo

get it and swap in a 2.4L. easier to obtain motor, more parts available, pretty simple to adapt to the 5-speed trans and then you have a 16v motor. you can evan paint the appropriate parts red so it doesnt look out of place under there. :)

that was one of the ideas i thought of doing for the car.

If looking for a daily driver the combo can't be beat- The SOHC is an anvil that just won't die and if it does breakdown parts are cheap and easy. If you break down with the DOHC make sure you bring spares with you because Autozone will look funny at you when you go to buy parts.

The R/T chassis handles great and make an awesome road car.
