My rampage with the T3 motor seems to be running real great. As for the set up in the rad department, Im running the scirocco aluminum race radiator with the twin fan. Moroso cap and filler all on the drivers side. The overflow tank is mounted on the pas. side apron. I think its well over a quart capacity.
If i let the car idle in the driveway,Starting cold the tank will be empty and as it warms up,by the time the fan comes on,the tank is full to the cap!! after the fan runs, the fluid quickly recedes to almost empty. If i go out and drive it hard, it will spill out all over the place.(slight boil over)
It seems to displace alot of coolant. Is this normal??

".....Starting cold the tank will be empty ..."

Bill that doesnt sound right, you want your overflow tank to have a small amount of coolant in it at full cold, then rise at full hot, and return to partially full as it cools back to full cold.

i agree w/ TRYINGBE, sounds like a mis-matched or broken cap spring/seal.

Well, not "totally empty." Close though. Thats why i was concenrned that it overflows.Till the fan comes on,then when its cooling, returns to near empty.Lots of fluid movement. If its the cap, what psi cap should i look for??

Try a new rad cap, 16 psi. As the coolant warms up, it pushes out, then when cooling, it gets sucked back in. It shouldn't belch out a litre, maybe a 1/4 of one or less. If you replace the rad cap and it still does it, possible head gasket problem.

over a quart of expansion volume, everytime, in a small engine..... doesnt sound normal to me.

Very good guess. It wasnt the cap but the rubber seal on it wasnt seating. There is a round metal piece that holds the seal on the cap. It was hitting the side of the filler neck causing it to not seat. THANKS!!
