Hope this isn't a repost:

Go to technology, look at original specifications.
and note: * 225 bhp 16 valve Available
(well actually apparently they only ran around 40 mpg highway with the 2.2, the 100+ is accomplished with newer small diesels)

It looks like it was only rated at 28 and 40 for the production version with the 2.2L Chrysler turbo engine. Still a pretty cool car for what it is.
Edit, looks like you already corrected yourself.

5.3 seconds to 60 with the log intake T1!!! This would of been stupid fast with the 16V 225hp motor.
1550/225= 6.92 LBs/hp

Pretty cool, 100 mpg. I can see the oil companies seething, lol.
I can't fathom how much fuel I wouldn't use commuting, ;)

Oh wow that is the coolest car I have ever seen! Think how fast that car would go with a SRT4 engine. They need to donate one to me for testing!

WOW....85 lbs lighter than my Geo Metro 3 banger....and way more power...they should take the turbo 4 and cut it in half to make it 73 hp 2 banger. The Geo is 55 hp and 1635 lbs since I removed 95 lbs. Top speed was 81 and is now a whopping 87. Gas mileage was aonly 46, rated at 49...now 50-57. Better yet, maybe I should get one of you guys to put a turbo 4 in the Geo! Matchbox now is 1790 lbs....but its 23 mpg can't compare.

Anything can get great gas mileage and go fast if it is light enough. I don't see the big deal.

Yeah that geo engine was definitely no power house. The micro mini sprint seemed to fare better, but I think the EPA was very short sited in rating the escort diesel from back in the day. The engine was actually imported and was built by a company who had always made diesels, mazda. The epa rating were a far cry from what it could really do. My friend got an average of 40-50 mpg depending on where he drove and it had AC and was way more comfortable than geo. This car has looks and everything. Freakin sweet. I think this guy who made this car was pretty smart in betting on the fact that cheap gas was just a mirage created by the political machine and an excuse to wage war after having lived through the OPEC created fuel crisis.
Here is an interesting thread on the escort diesel. My friend on there is Chasb19.

This thread reminds of of a project I saw where someone built a full sized go kart and used an srt4 engine. I wish i could find it again.
