im more focused towards the 568 cuz i have one but might as well include the rest

im asking for a little bit of the stats of the car cuz that dictates how hard the trans is used... and stuff like WHICH TRANS IT IS and how many miles are on it and the kind and weight of oil

mine is a 568 with about 150k on it... and i messed up and put penzoil 0 20 in it

i figure it cant be that terrible cuz its at least still oil in it but i have noticed it giveing me some issues

i wanna run a 0 tho cuz i heard these trannies like to lock up in extreme cold think i should run 0 40 instead of 0 30 cuz its got so many miles and is a little "looser" i did notice some shaft play when i replaced the front seal it seemed like alot but idk what it should be ya kno it wasnt extreme like a quarter inch tho

also think i messed mine up by runnin 0 20 in it for maybe 6000 miles? to be safe less than 10k

Synthetic motor oil will F up your synchros, either use a synthetic transmission oil or conventional motor oil.

I've always run 5w-30 conventional in my transmissions. Even in cold NY winters, I've never had them lock up. If its REALLY cold out, the shifter has been a little stiff for the first half a mile but thats only if I don't let the car warm up for a few minutes first.

what about putting some of this stuff in there? http://www.schaefferoil.com/specialty/132.html

i imagine it would be good for the gears but idk about the other stuff and what about the motor i imagine it would be good for it but im iffy about running it through the turbo

and synchros come with a rebuild kit right?

I think that's safe with the synchros, because some wet brake and clutch applications have moly additive lubes for them, in theory the moly bonds to the metal, doesn't mess up frictions.

might want to be careful with Synchromesh in our trannys...... it contains a sulfur based EP (extreme pressure) additive that will eat yellow metals, ie our synchros!

One guy has had issues and now its taboo?????? I've used it and never had an issue.

One guy? hell its a common issue, and not only in transmissions, but in my industry in gear boxes. They make transmission fluid with out these EP addatives. Thats why I used Redline MTL in my Jeeps AX-15 trans because it also has brass (yellow metal) synchros. The newer jeeps have the NV3500 trans, and can use synchromesh with out any issues.

On this same note, don't use GL-5 gear oil in a trans that calls for GL-4. It does the same thing. Ask any Hyundai trans guy and he can verify this.

That's what I always use, 2 litres synchromesh with 1 litre 80/90 gear oil. Don't knock it till you try it...:eyebrows:

That is why I used Mobil 1, I thought that is what the factory recommended for use in my 568.

GL4 still has the EP addative, but in MUCH smaller quantities. :thumb:

I asked an unmentionable person that sells rebuilt TD transmissions and he told me Synthetic
Mobil 1 is fine that is what he has always used with no issues??????????????
What does the factory recommend for a 568? Nobody knows, but everybody has an opinion.
