So I was pulling out of the gas station today with my buddy, as I start to pull out these young kids start honking at me. I pull out onto the street and up to the stop lights. THey follow and continue honking. (I dont know these kids) I look in my rear view mirror to see whats going on, and the passenger is leaning over from the passenger seat honking the horn. As I am looking at him he sticks his head up in the windshield and sticks out his tongue and starts wiggling it at me in a deeply pornographic manner. Meanwhile They keep honking. For no reason. I pull ahead a couple feat closer to the lights and they rear end me:mad: I get out of the car. The driver does not get out. The pasenger gets out and says"sorry about that man, we werent honking at you." BULLSH!T He then says its OK, your cars fine. I bend down and look and the paint is spiderwebbed. I said no its not fine. Passenger then says "well we got insurance what do you want to do" I immediatly tell them I want their information. Passenger then says we should get off the street, lets pull back into the gas station. I said OK. Gas station lot is literally 5 feet away. OF course you know where this is going........They slam it into reverse, almost nail a parked car......and take off:banghead:

Luckily my buddy got their plates, we call the cops and file a report. Im supposed to hear something within the next few days. My luck these tools wont have insurance.

To cover all the bases. I was not hot rodding, I was not goosing it. I just stop into the gas station to get a simple freakin pop, and get harassed and rear ended only to have the spineless slimeballs take off. FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

I do not go looking for trouble, trouble finds me.

wait? You've got an SRT4 and you couldn't chase them down?

Seriously! Shoulda followed them with your buddy on the phone w/the police dispatcher giving the location.

If Shawn wouldnt have gotten their plate I would have without question.
We both agreed that would have been a bad idea. They wanted to get away, pretty soon things would be getting crazy and laws would get broken. If anything would have happened it would have been my fault. Cops dont like vigilantes. It sucked watching them drive away but it was the smartest thing to do. Somebody had to be an adult in the situation.:(

I was more bummed than anything at first. I try so hard to look after the car and take care of it then this happens. Now that I have had some time to stew over it I am getting pretty angry.

That's probably true. Since you have the plate # the cops should have no problem tracking them down. Proving that they did it might be a little tougher, but you have a witness as well.:thumb:

You should go back to the gas station and ask the attendants if they saw it. With all that honking, you'd think they would have looked out to see what was going on.

I was pulled around the back exit. Maybe they have a camera back there. If they say that it didnt happen, I will go back and see if they have one. And the cops took Shawns name and number as a witness. Now, I may know someone whe would run the plates for me..........

update: I get a call from the kid who now has my number says it wasnt him, meanwhile saying things that relate to the accident. Afraid if it has to go to court I just may be boned on this one.

How did he get you #?

shelbydave

Actually, regardless of who it was, the owner of the car should be responsible. Since you have the plate number and a witness, you may still have a case. Did a police report get filed? With that, you may be able to go to your insurance company to get it repaired.

How did he get you #?

I would imagine acopy of the police report.

I get a call a couple hours later from an investigtor........
He tells me that it is his job to threaten and get the truth out of people. He said that the kid lied to the cops. Said that he told the kid that it was a federal offense to lie to the cops and that it was illegal to commit insurance fraud. THe kid then started cracking and said that I drove off and he didnt think that I was coming back. The investigator then siad well we have witnesses that say different then he confessed completely. He told the kid if he came in to the courthouse he wouldnt have to arrest him. He also said that he was giving the kid a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.:thumb:

Kid calls me again after I get the call from the investigator. I purposely didnt answer. there was nothing to say. He left a message and told me to call him, but this time he left a message as "hey this is Josh from the accident yesterday". He told me to call him after he got back from the court house. Im guessing he wants to settle without turning it in.:p

I am going to two of the most expensive body shops tommorrow to get estimates. I will tell them to not be kind either:D

shelbydave
09-30-2008, 07:42 PM
I would still turn it in. If he has insurance, he'll be screwed big time. They'll up his rates so far he can't afford to drive anymore. (hopefully)
If he want's to settle, check with the insurance. The other thing to think about is that alot of insurance companies will cover the work so that if there are other problems, they come back in and fix it. settling will be a one time payment, and if there is hidden damage, you would be responsible.
Either way, do whatever is going to do the most damage to that kid. Show no mercy. Go out of your way to make him an example. He needs to learn early in life not to do stupid stuff like that.

I bet those ++ucks were laughing their bums off as they drove off thinking that they really pulled one on the "nice" guy. I wish I could have been there to see the expression on his face when
Sh!t started going south.

Oh yes....there will be no mercy!!!!!!

Still not solved yet. The information that I got from the kid has been mostly worthless. I think I am on the write track now with getting this taken care of, but I had to do it on my own. Some things are still a little fishy. The car is registered to a Shawn, the accident report says a Josh, and the kid who I have been talking to says his name is Jason. Still getting jerked around.

Keep with it, it will pay off in the end. I went to get in my car one morning and the door wouldn't open. Wtf! Someone backed into my door. I filed a report, and picked up the pieces of the tail light on the ground. One night I was bored and glued the pieces together. A few days later I saw a car with a busted tail light that matched the style I glued together. I called the police with the plate number. Few day later I got a call from the cops, had a confession and a cort date. Lady lost her license and had to pay me for the damage. Moral is, keep with it and it will pay off! Slack off and they will get away with it.

shelbydave

Did the police file a report? They should have just as soon as the guy confessed. That report enough is enough to take to the insurance company. They have the big bucks to take it further.

spoolinhard

Police report already filed. Pretty sure they do not have big bucks. It will pan out, just might take a little more effort.
$715 worth of paint crack woot!!!!!! For those of you that havent seen my previost thread, I bought this car wrecked and rebult it myself. I still have all the supplies to fix this!

That is true, it depends on where you live. Affending a car in Vegas is big trouble. Car jacking or hit and run ends up in one of the 4 choppers that basically never land on you fast. In Spokane the cops laugh at you if you DON'T take care of it your self. The guy accross the street from me came over and called my kids mom a C word so I beat the snot out of him with a fire poker. The cops then came over and just walked him accross the street! so I got pissed and said "why isn't he going to jail"? The cop said the jail is full while laughing. Then told me if he comes over again, just beat him again and we'll walk him accross the street. Cops don't get to beat up dopers anymore and around here they are red neck cops. Some doper does a hit and run on you and you beat the snot out of them the cops love it. They even made new "road rage" laws for those people. I do construction so I have a lot of creative tools with me at all times :)
