View Full Version : Standard T3 Turbo on Stock Manifold

Has anyone put a t3 turbo on a stock manifold? I have it redrilled for the standard flange but I am having clearance issues with the wastegate. The arm that connects to the puck extends into the space between the runners of my two piece so I am unable to hook up the wastegate. Is external my only option(besides a vendor header which I don't really have the cash for)

You mean the arm is too long?

What T3 turbo are you using? Spec?

If you just redrill it, the turbo sits too high. When I did mine, I lowered it aprox an inch by accident and I found out that was perfect. Another buddy did the redrill and his DP had to be redone with a few 45's.

Not real sure, its a turbo from a Grand National. Its a 60 trim compressor and 60-70 trim exhaust. Turbovanman is correct it basically sits too high so the swingvalve tab is hidden behind one of the intake runners.

Turbovan man, it is drilled lower

Its a Garrett TB0348

Why not just use the dodge turbine housing?

I believe the trims on exhaust wheels are different.

On a stock turbo? I really doubt it.

Beside, a stock grand national turbo does not use a T3 flange...

This has a standard t3 housing that was machined to fit the wheel of the GN turbo

I'll measure the wheels tonight to see what the difference is. I really hope I can and can't use the stock housing because I redrilled my ported manifold.

A stock GN turbo and ours should use the same size STage 1 turbine wheel.

If you lowered the turbo, you will have to then relocate the can bracket, I also had to do that. I ended up making a new bracket using the one, some washers, die grinder and a welder.

Hmm darn, wish I would've known this before I hacked up my manifold:D

Looks like I am going to go buy a die grinder and port my other one

Doesn't fit, the GN wheel is too large and scrapes the housing

Can you measure the turbine wheel? Both th exducer and inducer?

Because I have a stage II .63 dodge turbine housing here that might work for you.

yeah I can do that, that would be great if it fits. I'll have to check after work

I run std T3 flange on a stock manifold with a ford style turbine housing, with turbo's unleashed hybrid Z bracket and wastegate can. No clearance issues, the wastegate arm is about 1/2'' or so away from the closest part of the intake.

I think a lot of it is the placement/size of my swingvalve. See how the piece the wastegate actuator connects to clears the runners, mine won't, mine is too tall and sticks up in between the 2nd/3rd runners

Thanks for the pic, that really helps to see that others aren't having the same problem I am. What turbo is that btw?

Th measurements are:

Well the stock stage 1 wheel is 1.898" and 2.319", with only that slight difference that could just mean you weren't measuring is quite the right spot but it was close.

Except for the fact that I had a mechanic(with a hybrid head, shadow running 26psi of boost) measure it for me, and it rubs on the stock housing.

Hm... It would seem you have a very stage turbine wheel. Or your mechanic needs a new caliper.

all I know is that putting my dodge housing on the GN turbo, causes it to scrape

and the guy who had it before my friend(who I bought it from) said he had a .48 housing machined to fit the wheel

Well then, you're pretty much stuck... Unless you want to unbolt the cold side of that turbo, bolt it on a dodge Garrett turbo.

Or do what moparzrule did.

You got a pic of this turbine wheel? I'd like to see it.

turbodaytona87

I can take one when I get home. It doesn't look like our Dodge wheel btw, its more open.

That same guy that measure my wheel had a bracket to mount the wastegate actuator on the opposite side. I just have to cut/reweld the wastegate puck arm deal.

Hmm, yup I've heard this about the GN turbine wheel now that I've seen the pics it reminds me. I've seen the stock chrysler turbine machined out for the GN wheel, doesn't take a whole lot for a turbo shop to do it. I'd definitely recomend doing it with a .63 housing though!

What turbine housing does it have that came with it? The GN didn't have a std T3 flange, so did someone already have a ford housing machined for it?

Yeah it must've been the ford housing, because the previous owner(before my friend) said he had to have the housing machined to fit.

Now I just need to find a cheap 63 housing

You won't....$150 is about the cheapest unless you wait years for the right person to sell one for $100 because they don't know what they got. But they are $175 new so might as well buy new.

eh I'll probably see how the .48 housing does, I mean the turbo coming off has roughly the same wheel size with a .48 housing. Sucks because that one was slightly ported and ceramic coated.
