I am currently running M@H slicks, probably 3-4 years old, pretty well worn out, 24.5/8.5x15 and the best 60ft was 1.9, to which I am happy.

I found a set of these for sale locally, 1/2 off new ones, "24x8x15 mickey thompson ET drag slicks 6 passes"

Is the smaller size THAT much of a difference and will I literally blow these away?

TIA.

Half off brand new ones, and you need some slicks badly, I say go for it.

They can have 6 passes and still be worn out. Make sure they are not old. The rubber become hard over some time, and they dont work very good anymore.

I am mostly worried about the size difference. I would of course look too see how much they were worn, ;)

The half shouldn't make too much difference. But you never know, you could lower your ET. I'm not an expert, just a know what I know guy. My neighbor experimented with like 6 different sizes and the smallest ones he put on ended up getting him into the 10's. He had big azz tubbed rear end and all that.
The experts may debunk me but like gvare said, half price? What's the worst that could happen? Have to re sell them with 10 passes on them?

buy them!!!! If you dont i can surly use them.

But here's what i've found when it comes to gearing/tire size

here's my findings with a stock A555/A568 and 22" slicks on my 384' track.
best 60' = 1.9
best 330' = 5.9
best 384' = 6.45
and i'm just getting into the bottum of 3rd.
with 26" tires i'm just topping out 2nd.

My A523 w/ 3:50's.
best 60' = 2.1 (so far havent really ran the car since i got the new trans)
330' = 5.91
385' = 6.45
i'm just topping out 2nd at the end of the track on my 22's with a trap speed af 64mph with these tires.
on 26's the car just bogs off the line. to much tire for this set up.

I'd say these tires will help you out a bit in the short track but you *might* suffer a tenth or 2 in the top end but should have higher trap speeds.

Buy them and sell them to me. i NEED bigger slicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's nothing wrong with the MT slicks but the reason nearly everyone runs M&H is they 60' better. I'd say buy them as long as they aren't old.

I run the MT's now since I got them for a steal. Like Kelly said, I 60'd better with the M&H's but I'm more consistent with the MT's. I run pretty consistently in the low 1.8's.

Well that's not what I meant. Than can appear to have full tread, but if they are old, then the tend to not be sticky anymore.

Simon, there is no such thing as a 24x8x15" MT so its probably a typo.
probably 24.5"
You will be able to see the numbers when you are checking how old and dryrotted they are ;)

I want to step to 26x10 M&H

Ok then, maybe I'll go check them out. Is there a date code like normal tires?

Not sure about a date code, but compare how hard they are to your M&H's.

i got 24.5 x 8 x 15 MT's and have pulled 1.8 60'ers, car falling once its face (low boost) and still plently of room for traction!!

they have about 15 passes on them, and are pretty much JUST broken in. ive only ever had 1 or 2 good smoke shows with em, even when cold I have a hard time heating them up as they just drag me out of the burnout box (in 2nd gear). I do have a fairly well working ebrake, im sure line lock would be best! ill save that for when i do the rear wheel disk conversion

planning for 1.7s this year in a lighter car (4 or 500 pounds) and more power!! (+100whp or more!)

isnt there a set of 23" M & H???? I think that would probably work great with your van

I had 22's on a few years ago but they are too short and I have to remove my air dam, the 24.5's give me an inch of clearance. 23's would still be too short and with the new power, I would blow them away.

They dont have a date. The old ones I have are obviously discolored from sitting in the sun etc.

YOu can tell when you dig your fingernails into the rubber how old the rubber is. If it doesnt feel a bit gooey, its prolly old.
