View Full Version : Solving Boost Creep.....

Alright. With my shadow back up and running, I'm still suffering massive boost creep.

My turbo setup is this. A TU super60 turbo with large wastegate can, 63 A/R housing, TU 3in swingvalve and full 3in exhaust. I have a 3in exhaust cutout as well.

Boost control is a HKS EVC EZ, along with direct vacuum line to wastegate. When the car was down, I also ported the wastegate hole abit. Just not anywhere near the diameter of the TU's puck. I openned it up and smoothed the transtions around the hole.

Either with the boost controller turned off or direct vacuum line to manifold, the symptoms are the same. Low RPMs, I get 9lbs of boost at WOT. My boost creeps up fast as I cross 4000 RPM to redline. Boost shoots to 14lbs of boost by redline.

What can I do in the short time to help lesson the boost creep. In the long term, I still have to install the new block. At that time, I'll probably port the wastegate hole more.

My thread about porting the wastegate hole.

How tight was the wastegate rod going on? Maybe too much preload?

I ported the hole earlier. Its pretty hard to make the hole bigger with a .63 A/R housing. Porting the hole leads into alot solid material.

So I opened the hole as much as possible, which doesn't seem like much. Then I blended the hole where I couldn't remove much material. Hopefully it is all enough.

I also shimmed the wastegate when I put the topend back together. I just need to get some allen bolts so I can bolt down the swingvalve.

I think Jeremy is on the right track thinking about the tension on the rod. Pulling those shims back out would be the first thing I would try.
