Turbo XS Bov Question

I have installed a turbo xs rfl bov on my charger in the lower intercooler hose. I'm wondering do I need a filter on the end of the bov?

Does it open when the engine is idling?

ive never run a filter on my Turbo XS bov but i also have a stack of washers in it
