How can an SRT-4 2.4 shortblock be I.D ? I have an chance to pick one up cheap I was wondering what the casting numbers should be?

Chances are you'd have more luck with this question on neons.org or srtforums.com. I'm not sure if anyone here knows them that well.

i don't know the part numbers, but the SRT 2.4 will be a NGC block.... and the crank sensor is on the driver side front of the block instead of the passenger side rear.

however, it still could be an n/a 2.4L. i heard that the boss for the oil return line is present on all NGC blocks. it will be undrilled of course on an n/a motor. ;)

look for oil drainback for the turbo, also should have oil squirters under each cylinder in the crankcase area
