Is this head ok?

I dont think so, but is this a big deal? (The crack between the x-drill hole and the triangle shaped coolant passage.) It goes all the way through.

This head is stamped "90" for 1990. I thought it was cross drilled but the holes are smaller than the one i have from 87 and dont appear to be drilled on an angle towards the front of the head. Did something change in 1990 on how these holes were drilled?

Some of the heads had little holes there that went straight down and not at an angle. That crack is a typical crack spot for X-drilled heads. That crack will not cause any problems. However, make sure to check for warpage. Have the head cleaned and blasted to make sure there are no hairline cracks going from the x-drill to the cylinder. Sometimes they can be hard to see, especially if the head is dirty like that.

Thanks. After cleaning, found the crack continues towards the combustion chamber. Decided to go with yet another head (#3)...

Good idea. If you are having cracking problems, try a non-xdrilled head. Also make sure you have the deck surface cut to true it up.
