Well kinda most of it is new. Allright, I was going to wait till I was totally finished with the car but it seems I have to have one of my Koni struts rebuilt and it looks to be a while. So here ya go. Just *almost* finished a four year ground up resto. Was going for the resto mod class. Details to follow but here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. From start to.......almost finished.

It was actually more stable than you would think, I pushed it all around the garage and it never felt tipsy at all. It was lighter than you would expect also, when it came time to remove the undercoating where the jack stands supported it I picked the front up and a buddy moved the stands. It is a TU Stainless header that I had him porcelain coat. Thanks again.

I hate you, J/K. My first Turbo-Mopar was a blue/silver 89 Daytona Shelby T-top car. Sadly, it died due to rust... everywhere.

You definitely have the nicest 89 T-top car I've ever seen. I hope you have as much fun with that car as I had with mine!

So far so good, started at 6lbs, then 11, then 16 or so and nothing has "come from together" yet. I am very very pig rich right now and am waiting for some dyno time to mess with the fuel pressure. Too hard to watch everything and scream down the road at the same time!

One question though, did you make those intake pipes? I would be willing to pay for a set just like that.

I started with a pnuematic grinder with a Scotch brite wheel. The brown ones are very coarse and will eat the aluminum up quick. Progressivly worked down to finer and finer wheel ending with a polishing wheel. You will use a ton of these to get it done.
http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebserver?66666UuZjcFSLXTtlXMX5xTaEV76EbHSHVs 6EVs6E666666--
When that was complete I went to a general purpose polish with a very tightly woven buffing wheel, then dropped down to tripoli polish with a looser pad and finally finished it off with a real loose buffing pad with jewelers polish. It took quite some time to complete as I am not a prof. by any means.

Being a father with young children, I don't no where you found the time to do such an outstanding job.:thumb: Your wife must be a very understanding woman.:hail:
The wife is very good to me yes, the boy actually helps out a lot and is pretty dang smart for a kid his age.

What are the specs? I wish I have the patience/talent to do that with mine
I am working on a mod list and will post it up in the near future.

Thanks man kids have 99.9% of their mom in them and 0.1% of me, thats why they are so cute.

Like I said above the boy is into it, he loves helping, his attention span is very low so I have to keep him actively involved, but he does well none the less.

That looks immaculate! I can only aspire to get my car looking that nice.

One question though, did you make those intake pipes? I would be willing to pay for a set just like that.

I did make the pipes out of 2 1/2 inch and 3 inch "U" bends. I am flattered but I will have to decline. I have a lot of hours in those things and to be honest it would not be worth my time and energy....let me explain. There are other board member that can vouch for me on this. I made all the cuts on my pipes with a hacksaw while holding the pipe on the floor. I do not have a vice and it was a total pain in the @ss to hold those pipes and make all the right cuts. I hated doing those pipes with a passion (I managed to drag it out to about a month) I do have to say I was really happy (read surprised) how they turned out. Cost wise I used 2, 2 1/2 Mandrel "U" bends ($40 each) 1, 3 inch "U" bend ($45.) plus $50 in the powder coating. I have my own Mig so thats all good. Not trying to be mean but it is just not worth the pain in my butt and the time for me to make these for people.

CSR Electric Water pump http://www.csr-performance.com/csr_pumps.html.

THAT is neat, I didn't know they made them for our cars (PN 922, I found it on thier site). Not cheap, but certainly worth while knowing you can't through a belt and over heat. How did you wire it up?

I used two double contact relays. It is wired up so that the pump runs with ignition on signal and the fan cycles normally. I also wired it to a switch inside the center console that with the ignition off key removed I can run the water pump and fan. Seems to work well, I figured it would cool it off (engine off) more than it does, seems to get it down quick, then when the thermo closes it just stagnates, works well to that point though. All the extra wires for everything that I added I ran through the stock harness for a clean/factory look.

OK, where to start. I can't believe I've missed this thread. I can't imagine the amount of time and money you have spent on this restoration. As you can see I'm an avid turbo Buick man and this is one of THE best restorations I have seen in either the TD OR TB world. That is absolutely spectacular!

Do me a huge favor though and have that appraised and insured at a minimum for it's full MSRP value with a specialized insurance company, even if you are just showing it. That car is too nice to let ANYONE touch it. I have seen way too many fine automobiles lost to the depths of insurance nightmares. Now, with that being said, your car is by far BETTER annd cleaner than when it left the factory. The attention to detail and the perfection used when completing the project has totally reversed the thought that these are "disposable cars." This is the epitome of all the TD's IMO and it is one of the select few that I would actually consider an "equivalent" to a turbo buick. :thumb:

Without a doubt, you are the pinnacle of a true enthusiast and are actually NOT a typical TD'er. Props to you on such a fine piece of machinery...

Wow man, now I do not know where to start. Thanks! I had it insured with Grundy prior to the resto, I will be going back with them as I like all their terms. The "equivalent" to a turbo Buick comment as I love those cars and it is one of the very few non Mopar cars I would love to have in the garage. I never have been able to explain why I love this car so much, I stopped trying to figure out an exact reason and just go with the flow. Keep checking back as I will post complete pics shortly. Thanks again, means a lot!

This is so astounding that I have linked this post across the TB forums I'm on. This makes my GN seem "run of the mill" when compared to that creature. Anytime I see such a clean ride a certain amount of pride should be felt and, believe me, the accolades you're getting are well deserved. :thumb:

So.. since this is better than new and you've poured everything into it, now comes the ultimate question: Is this destined to be a "trailer queen" or will it see the rock chips, bug guts, bird poo, rain/puddles, etc?

Rock Auto also sells fuel tanks, etc. for quite bit less than Quanta. Does anyone know if Quanta makes their own or just resells? I know Dorman also lists fuel tanks.

Funny you say that I drove it home in the rain last night :D I will trailer it to far away shows, but for local (withen 1-2 hours) it will be driven. I love driving the car too much to make it a 100% trailer queen. I am looking forward to Big Daddy's show Nov 1-2 to drive down there

Napa also still has fuel tanks for our cars, I just bought one for my '90 daytona shelby a couple of months ago. It was right around $100 iirc.

Not sure how that compares to other prices, just throwing it out there...

Seems to work well, I figured it would cool it off (engine off) more than it does,

First, let me say WOW!! She didn't even dream about looking that good when she rolled off the line! You did an amazing job!

As I was scrolling through your pics, I noticed something, and was torn as to whether to say something because it might seem like I was ripping on your work, but with the above comment you gave me some cover. ;)

This is a lesson I had to learn myself when I put a large FMIC on my Spirit. Where you have the 'cooler and filter pipes passing through the radiator support, you may want to look into blocking off the open spaces. Air will take the path of least resistance, and if it has a choice between an open hole and your radiator, it's going to take the open hole. This usually isn't a huge issue at idle, or at low speed, but at sustained highway speeds, it will run warm, or at least warmer than it should.

Thanks guys, it all paid off at the last car show. I love watching people look at the car then ask how I did this or that, thats what I enjoy. Dietro, I have not run it in the summer heat yet, but it does fine cruising, (210-215) I should have wrote what I said like this "Seems to work well, I figured it would cool it off (engine shutdown) more than it does. It makes sense now that I think about it, but when I shut the engine off and leave the pump running the temp drops right down, up till the thermo closes, then it just stagnats, no use to keeping them running.

I forget how many miles Brent's car has, but it has seen daily driver use until he got his hands on it and restored it some time ago. Then, totally restored the car just recently. The 4,700 miles you may be thinking of is of another '89 Shelby Daytona he grabbed the interior/drivetrain from a wrecked car.

I see the cargo cover looks mint, Brent! How did you manage to clean it up so well? I remembered it was stained with "chicken feces" from the Daytonas me and Jaimie parted;)

On the first page there is a pic of the digi-dash and a bright and proud 4700 miles showing on the odo. I guess the wrecked car gave up the digi-dash.

I'm curious. Can anyone is the restoration biz give an estimate on how much it would cost to have a car like this "done" at a resto shop?

Steve hit the nail on the head. I bought the car in 1995 and daily drove it till 2004-5?? Help me out on this Steve since I blew it up at your house giving your friend a ride.....After that I pulled the engine and it just went down hill after that. Worked on it when I could and when money was available. The digital dash show is from a car a friend of mine bought new and totaled it three months after he bought it. It was then stripped down to the shell and junked. Everything else was kept. He hung onto it for many many years saying he intended to build something. Out of the blue one day he called me up and asked if I was interested. 2004 I think it was, I said yes and paid $2800 for everything. I ended up selling the engine for $1700. There is a LOT of that car in this one. I spliced almost all of the switches, from doors to window to turn signal switch as these were nice and pretty with the white words still on them. The dash shows the miles when the other car met its maker. I originally had 142,000 on the car but it was somewhat more than that as the odometer stopped working for quite some time, so I am not sure exactly how many miles it had on it. Other than almost all of the interior I used only the tranny driveline wise. The exterior paint is still from when it was painted in 1999, just had it buffed out. It is one of the reasons I am a firm believer you get what you pay for when it comes to paint. Steve, still messing around with different computers trying to get it close to what I want before I hit the dyno. Currently spiking to 28PSI and resting at 25PSI for the rest of the fun. A/F is is 10.3-10.8 range and I know there is more left if I get it a little leaner. I have the fuel pressure turned down as low as I can go with it still starting when warm. So I still need to get another cal with a little more fuel pulled. It is a total hoot to drive and much much stronger than before. I fight a bit of lag but when it comes in or I brake boost hang on. Myself and Reaper1 were fooling around about a month ago looking for trouble, never did find any that gave me problems :) There are quite a few locals that were surprised by an old four banger, in true TD fashion. The only thing I regret is the DD pressure plate, it is a biotch to shift, clutch is fully enguaged about 1/2 inch away from the floor board and I always feel like the cable is going to snap at any moment. I have about 2K on it now and everything you put inside the engine is still inside it  I still have an issue in hard right turns with the driver side axle bottoming out against the diff. I have pulled it a few times and trimmed a bit off the end. Each time it had gotten better, just need to do it some more. Other than that I am 150% pleased. Still trying to make it to SDAC this year but nothing is final yet. If I do go I will be meeting up with the guy I bought the car from and cruise up there with him in his 89 GTC TII Lebaron 568 swap. Ironically he is the one that bought the engine from the wrecked car from me, and it now resides in the Lebaron as his old TII was getting tired. Hey I still have those spring perches.....

Yes sir it did donate the dash. As for the price I do not know, but knowing what I spent with no labor, way more than you will probably ever get out of it....but it sure does turn some heads. I have had a lot of non Mopar people give me props and tell me stories of the car that was owned by them, mother, cousin, uncle, ect of how bad @ss and fun that car was, so it makes me feel good.

Ah.... 28psi!

Your T-II/568 GTC friend I remember.... he had the T-III car I shoulda grabbed the drivetrain from. (and had a Challenger, right?)

Spring perches.... yes. I am in desperate need for some as I will be starting back up my project in 1-2 weeks time. Saying fawk it and parting out on of my R/Ts for it's drivetrain to go into the Shadow, and Jaimie may be buying up all my sohc stuff (and the VNT ES Shadow)

I am very anxious to see how well your car does on the dyno. Hopefully, you can get it totally sorted out soon.

That is just beautiful and it definitely shows in your attention to detail and meticulous work. Looks like this is one of kind indeed being as I have never heard of anyone with low miles parts like yours going into a high mile car. Only in musclecars, GN's(a league of their own), and some other more popular cars have I ever seen such an undertaking. There are a few board members with some very nice L bodies, however, but I personally have never seen a G body to this extent. This is the first time I saw this thread and I was taken aback. I had an SVO mustang that I planned on doing something similar to when I was 20, but I was dumb and young. I managed to take care of the car, but not like I should have. Going to SDAC?

Thanks Man! It was a lot of fun to do. My overall goal was to keep it as stock looking from the outside as possible, but to build it the way I wanted it, so far I am happy so I guess I got it right. I am trying to get the time off work to make it to SDAC. I have been to Mopar Nats, and Carlisle quite a few time but have never been to a SDAC event. I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again.

Went out with a buddy to a local dyno day to finally get some base runs. Car did real well for no tune yet. Base timing, and cam timing untouched, running kinda rich at 11.02. The first run was setting the straps, 2nd run was messed up third and fourth were clean. Best run was the last run at 273.49 HP and 280.37 Torque.

Steve,
Yea he was having some issues. He was not used to running FWD's on the dyno. First he ask me how to release the E-brake, I told him its ok, it FWD. Then he was very lightly holding the steering wheel when the boost came in, he almost ---- his pants....If you notice he put me in for the last three pulls, he messed up the first two. LOL Was running 20LBS and if you look at the dyno sheet is was 99.X degrees out. My best numbers were on the last pull, not sure how hot the IC was. Going to send the puter back to Cindy so she can pull some more fuel. My fuel pressure is as low as I can go without getting a 5th gear cruise "skip" Like I said, it was just a solid base run as I have not touched base or cam timing, nor A/F. The V-8 guys were pretty impressed. Wait till it is actually tuned.
