View Full Version : So what's a used mitsu worth?

I need a turbo in the S as it's starting to smoke more & more.

It smokes when I start it & take off, then when I shift, but it goes away when warm.

Now it's doing it even when warm for a bit before it "stops" & previous experience (& the smell of the oil is different, another tell tale sign it's the turbo seals) tells me turbo is on it's way out.

I want to put on a "cheap" turbo for now so I can kinda drive & enjoy the car a bit before it goes under the body shop/engine/tranny knife this winter, where I'll get a new either stock or one step up turbo.

I have a chance to get a mitsu for $100 at my local yard, $150 if they remove. Is that a good price?

I've been out f it of so long I really don't know.

Thanks.

I don't pay more than $20 for a Mitsubishi turbo...

Using a mitsu turbo means you need to change out your oil/coolant lines as well.

In reality, any turbo is worth what your willing to pay. $100 for a good used turbo is cheap, but as stated, you have to change or modify your lines so why not spend a bit more and get a garret, I think a few are floating around the forum for sale.

I sell good ones for $30 to $35 when I have them, but I just want them gone. I'm not trying to make money like a salvage yard.

Ive got a mitsu set up already on the manifold, with all the oil/coolant lines. I would sell that for a more reasonable price than 150. I can also throw in the turbo to airbox and turbo to throttle body hoses as well so you can just slap it on and go. PM me if interested.

The one time I found a garret at the yard I got it for $70.

I also have a mits just sitting I'd sell for much less then you were quoted.

Thanks to all that replied.

FWIW I would have pulled the lines IF I bought the boneyard Mitsu.

I haven't forgotten everything these past 4 yrs being turbo Moparless (is that a word)?

Anyway, another member is working with me on a TII for a pretty fair price so I should be all set.

Thanks again!

Good luck and by what your describing thats exactly like the seals going out on the turbo as long as you don't smell coolant and seem to have excess pressure in your cooling system you should be all good.
