Dumb question, am I missing anything here? I am almost finished adding the coilovers, and the shock shot up through the top of the mount! I bought the L-Body coilovers and the KYB strut mount.

You are missing the saucer like thing from your old stock set-up that sits on the top side of the shock tower. I can take a picture tomorrow, but hopefully someone else will have a camera and post up a picture before then.
Later,
Cindy

I was just going to say that. It keeps the shock rod from coming through the mount. If someone doesn't post a pic up before I get home, I'll see what I can do for you.

damn! typical ME. If anyone else needs anything from the JY, looks like I'm making another run this weekend. :sigh:

Unless someone has the old stock ones they dont need.. wink wink...

I think you can get them new at most parts stores, as part of a hardware kit for the struts.

I would scrounge some poly books and get poly versions, or maybe buy some link kits.

i may be wrong but that doesn't look quite right for the strut mount. i would just go buy a new strut mount because they get worn out and tend to make noise anyway. if you are putting those new struts in just add a new mount and have years of riding without issues.

Hmmm....my GLH didn't have that type. I wonder if it's because it had a Shadow k-frame/front and rear set up?

In any case, try what's been posted.

I know this isn't the greatist exploded veiw, but it's all I could find for an L-body exploded veiw of the strut.

How does that part keep the strut from coming through the top of the tower?

I belive he didnt instal two washers: the one on the very top of the mount that the lock nut is tightened agianst and the lower washer that goes on the bottom of the mount assembly. This might help a little, it's the exploded veiw from a Daytona

There is supposed to be a thrust bearing that the actual strut sits on. The thrust bearing should go over the strut and then all of the weight is placed on it between the hat and the step in the strut shaft (where it gets smaller).

I am also working on some lbody camber plates if you are interested in those for your coilovers. They will be better for race applications but will be harsher on the street.

There is a thread in the general vender section.

Click the thumbnail to enlarge the lbody front end diagram.

Part 7 is what holds the weight of the car. It sits between the spring hat (6) and the strut bushing (8)

Just get the moog kit from rockauto....looks like it has the stuff needed.
MOOG Part # K7145 {Strut Rod Bushing Kit}
Just in case this isn't it. How about this? Less than $20 from them. Strut mount(spicer)

11 is really just a fancy washer in function.

The picture is from the 87 dodge passenger car parts catalog. :)

Like Rich and black86glhs showed in the pics the spacer in the bottom of the pic is what you are missing, thats what keeps the strut from coming through the top of the mount. you may have to buy the whole mount to get it, i had a hood that looked like someone put the strut together wrong or let the mount get real bad and it put a huge dent in it and bent the hood when the strut came through. stinks because it was in prefect shape other than that and yes it was a turbo hood.

I dont need the mount, as it's brand new from FWDP. I dont have the spacer. Thats all I need, not the mount. :(

Check with them and see if it is supposed to have the bearing. Usually the bearing is the more important service item in the kit than the mount and it comes in most of the new mount kits.

I got one from KYB a while back and it had new bearings.

Please don't get upset, i know you have a new mount. i just didn't know if the bearing/spacer is available by itself, but looks like Cindy to the rescue, i see she posted she probably has it by itself. little as those are she could probably just send it by mail, good luck.

All I need is the spacer part, the little bushing. I'll send you the mounts for $20 if you want em.

I received the spring hat yesterday, it looked good. Like a sleeve with grease in it? Fit right over the coilover. Unfortunately they only sent one, even though I ordered two. Same part number, two different parts. :(

stupid rock auto.
