View Full Version : I think I may have found the problem...

Last year when I raced the Spirit with just a TII intercooler, a MP Perf. computer, and 14psi I ran a 14.91 at 90mph. The stall speed then was 2,800.

Since then I added a TII Garrett turbo, front mounted the TII intercooler, and had an open downpipe... on freakin' drag radials I could only pull off a 15.1 at 89mph. I then discovered my stall speed was 3,800. Interesting?

I always thought it was my fuel that was cutting me off... I had kick a$$ 1/8
mile times, but afterwards it sucked... my difference between 1/8 and 1/4 was terrible, other cars that ran similar times had much greater differences between.

So now it hit me, the torque converter was the problem, probally over 50% slippage. Anyone know how I calculate this?? Friday morning I'll be taking out the brand new TC out of our Acclaim, rebuilding my tranny, installing a RMVB and cranking up that line pressure to kill mode. :thumb:

Anyone agree with me here that this was the problem???

I'm really hopin' so, I'll take her to the track Sunday the 26th to see how it runs. Wish me luck!

Stock stall speed on a turbo is around 3500 rpm so 3800 is not out of line.

You crackhead, lol I remember distinctly last year it stalled at 2,800. No question about that.

Just a stock turbo converter. Nothing fancy.

Ok, but remember, stall speed is also due to power/torque. If you stalled at 2800 last year, you motor could have been weak or you were staging on less boost. Turn up the boost and this will over power the converter and raise the stall speed, :thumb:

It was all over 14psi...
