View Full Version : Oil Squirters, important?

I have a 96 2.4 block that I'm thinking about building and using the srt pistons in but it wouldn't have the oil squirters. Would the pistons survive at around 350hp? The squirters are supposed to help cool the pistons.

squirters are nice, but not needed. either way, if you are taking the motor apart, they are not hard to install.

Even in the early blocks? They dont have the boss cast in them for the factory squirters.

doesn't matter, you can still drill and tap in the same spot....

With the cost of the machining (need a flat for the squirter to seal to) not to mention you end up tapping into a water jacket, is it really worth while to get $300 pistons and rods and spending another $200 on machining or just get the JE's and Eagle H beams for $750?

Have many people ran the srt pistons and rod in the older blocks and put down big numbers without the squirters? Are there any webpages out there with proof?

look at neons.org for that info. i wouldn't waste my money on eagles...stock srt rods are as strong if not stronger

That is what I was thinking lol, why does the water jacket have to be tapped though?

I think Andy meant that was if the jacket was drilled accidentally?

Anyone got pics of these squirters?

When do we need these? I think my rods would wipe them off.

I think they were intended to make the cast pistons last longer instead of having to put more costly forged pistons in.

Common...you don't know about these???

If your rods wiped out the ones in my SRT motor, then your motor would be junk in the first revolution.

as far as depth, a good machinist would not make that mistake. A tap could be ground down to properly seat without having as much tang go in, which is what is needed. Any machinist that makes that mistake will never get a dime from me.

I've heard of them and saw pictures, but do not think they were added to my '97 block and do not think there is room with the Al rods.

there may not be...though my buddy's 2.4 block (pre 2k) has them added with crower rods...they really aren't necessary either way.

my previous comment has to do with the placement...they are no where near being in the way in the 2.4 block...i'll see if i can dig up some pics.
