View Full Version : The future of TU 3" swingvalves

Pages : [1] 2

Ever since we announced that we "might" discontinue our 3" Swingvalves we have received numerous requests to continue manufacturing them. I started this poll to gauge if there is enough demand to produce another 100 pieces. Please only vote yes if you intend to commit to purchasing one. I would need a minimum total of 40 paid commitments to consider another batch.

Thanks!

Ditch it for a different design altogether, too much cost to produce and too much time to deliver.

Haha, I just got the hugest laugh. Cindy AKA fwdperformance voted for ''No, not interested''. HAHAHA. Chris I'm so glad you use the option of showing who voted, shows cindy's true colors! LOL

That makes sense...why would a competing vendor be interested in another vendors product?:p

minigts
07-15-2008, 05:43 PM
The money is spent either way, so I don't see the big deal in pre-payment. I'm for having an O2 tap as well, but will accept whatever is cost efficient. Just need to figure out how that all works out. :D

When I get a turbo that I can use one on then hell yes, not going half asses, so 3inch ftw!

Money spent by them is also money spent. If they make 100 and only sell another 25 or it takes them 10 years to sell, it's not really worth it.

good point, i was thinking of getting one especially if going 3in exhaust, is there a way you could include it in the 'full exhaust' kit to perhaps make it a lil cheaper that is what id really like to get. But right now a swingvalve is out of my price range, but i do need 3in exhaust, 3in sv would definatly be in the picture for down the road. And especially with the good reviews seems dumb not to do one from a performance standpoint

that is funny cindy voted no but it does make sence

the 3" SV is sweet! And I haven't even gotten it on the car yet. That's funny Cindy voted no. Maybe she wants Chris to stop so she can make her own now :) If you think the 3" SV isn't worth it just look at the dyno plot. 30-40hp and ft-lbs UNDER THE CURVE!!! SCC and Import tuner would go nuts to get those kind of #'s :)

Just to clear things up, I think there is a bit of confusion here. Chris does not need you to pay the full amount up front before he goes to do the new castings, although if you want too thats fine. After he gets enough people on the list here, he wants you to give a deposit, THEN he will go get the castings done, and after all the machining is done you pay your balance and your swingvalve will be shipped!
The deposit's will be in the area of $50, but understand this will be non-refundable! Now, if we get 40 people to say yes, but only 10 of them give deposits, at this point the money would be refunded and no swingvalves would be made.

Over a turbonetics 2.5'' swingvalve, the TU 3'' made 5 more peak HP and 30 ft/lbs under the curve. That is at the wheels though, and I also think it was with a stock T2 turbo although I can't verify that for sure. So with a larger turbo, larger gains can be had.

The advantage of the 3" Swingvalve is it's a bolt on performance upgrade that functions just like the factory version and does not require welding. The new price is $275. each. Once we obtain 40 commitments on T-M we will request a $50. deposit. We will then produce a quantity of 100 pieces.

Thanks for everyone's input!

Our objective with this poll is to see if there is enough interest to continue production of the 3" swingvalves. Once we reach 40 positive votes we will request deposits ($50.) and then start manufacturing. When the swingvalves have been completed we will collect the balance of the funds and ship product. Estimated time of completion has varied in the past so all I can say is it could be as soon as two months or as late as six. In any case, you product is reserved once you provide a deposit. To clarify, the first option in the poll is for providing a $50. deposit and the second is for waiting for product to be in stock before ordering. Sorry for not pointing that out earlier.

Hope that answers everyone's questions. If not don't hesitate to give us a call or PM us.

Thanks!

In the past when we have kept them in stock they sell at a rate of about 3 pieces a month. Now that our bare castings have been depleted we are faced with a minimum order of 100 pieces. The low sales volume history is not enough to justify keeping 90 of these gathering dust on our shelves. I am considering 60 on our shelves if we get 40 commitments but that's as much as I am willing to sit on.

Sorry, wrote it wrong. The question was whether or not the 50 you needed was going to come from both Yes willing to pre-pay and Yes not willing to pre-pay, but stating that there is only 19 commitments so far answers the question. :)

Agreed, but the commitment requested above seems to come before the deposit, so I am checking to see how we commit. Didn't know if you needed an PM, post or something else. I have a Grant laying around here somewhere, maybe under a mattress. :)

For now we will use the poll as a way of establishing "interest". Once 40 "interested" votes (Option 1) are cast we will request $50. deposits from those individuals and initiate manufacturing once they have all been received. If anyone else who hasn't voted, or, has voted for option 2/3 would like to send in a deposit it may help us get to the 40 deposits "received" alot quicker.

I don't want these to disappear from our product line up either. As an added incentive, I will honor the previous price of $250. for those 40 individuals who provide their $50. deposit first. The balance of 60 pieces will be sold at the new $275. price.

We anticipate anywhere from 2-6 months. We are working with a "local" machinist now who is a mile from our shop. He caters to companies like TU so our orders will no longer get pushed back due to Honeywell or USAF.

We will create a deposit section on our website once 40 poll commitments is reached. At that point we will advise once all 40 payments have been received.

Well, if you say so then it must be true.;)

I created an item on our site for the deposit. If we do not reach our goal of 40 by September 1, 2008 your $50. will be refunded. So, if your name is in the #1 section and you don't pay the deposit expect to get harassed by the others:D

http://turbosunleashed.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=329

Selecting this item adds you to the list of customers wishing to purchase our 3" swingvalve. Once the forty $50. deposits are received we will begin manufacturing these swingvalves and provide updates on their progress. If we do not receive 40 deposits by September 1, 2008 all deposits will be refunded. Once the swingvalves have been completed ( 2-6 months) we will require the balance to be paid. If you are lucky enough to be one of the first 40 to pay the deposit your total price for our 3" swingvalve is $250. If you are 41 or up your price will be $275. You have 2 weeks to pay the balance otherwise you risk losing your deposit. There will be no refunds if you change your mind or if manufacturing goes beyond the projected 6 months.

Thanks!

I still think the count is wrong. Two Yes's but no upfront pay changed their minds. Anyone else? Let's get this done.

Honestly, the Poll count really doesn't matter. It's the "PAID" count that does. The sooner we receive the 40 deposits the sooner we will start production. We have 9 paid so far (and one check in the mail makes 10). Hopefully we reach our goal prior to the September 1st deadline. Sooner would be better ;).

Problem with PMs over there is that they aren't private. Any mention of TM or TU and you will most likely get a warning/ban. Better to let things go, use the phone or email to get in touch with friends that aren't on this board frequently.

For example, send it to your local SDAC group mailing lists.

Reaper1
08-04-2008, 11:30 AM
You can talk to people about TU, but you have to use "Chris" and hopet hey know what you are talking about. If they make "Chris" a *dirty word*, then I suppose I can't talk to people either! LOL

minigts
08-04-2008, 11:41 AM
Well given the fact they ban words and don't let anyone PM each other about TM or vendors or people in general, I won't ever use that site again. I think it's sad it happens and no offense to those who still frequent there, but find it amazing that people still support that site at all. Besides that, there is also Boosted Mopar as well as Turbo-Mopar, so it's not like there aren't choices for people in the way of online collaboration.

Well, as we all know, people hate change... So, until it becomes overbearing, people will put up with a huge amount of BS. It's too bad though, as you've stated, there is an alternative, but Ricky over there knows this too and that's probably why he's such a d!ck about "contraband words", etc; he knows he's got an inferior product, but rather then fix it, he's trying to keep everyone there in a vacuum. One can only hope that as people become more educated, they "see the light".

Well, let's say, if I were Chris the first resource I'd use is the customer base I have to inform about new products. I think from his database alone should be sufficient interest to get this thing moving. And if he only takes those who once in their life ordered 3" Downpipes..... Then again I haven't got a clue if he can get himself into trouble doing this.... But if I give my vendor my email address I suppose that one day he'll use it. ...

I wouldnt say the market for serious 8v mods is large enough on the other site to get mad about.

Many people peruse both sites and even people here will miss it no matter how big you make the font ;)

If only 1 people prepay here, then whining about the websites wont get the rest of the orders filled. Some people are freaking out about the product disappearing yet they have not invested. If you want to help keep them, make a deposit before you worry about what other people are doing.

Unfortuantely I am unable to update the list because a few people have not provided me with their T-M screen names when placing an order. So, it really is best for the individuals making deposits to update the list.

Here's the last update. If you have provided us with a deposit but it does not reflect it in the list below please add "PAID!" next to your screen name and add quantity one to the total. Add yor screen name if it does not appear. Please be honest. I will be checking ;)

Currently there have been 18 Pay Pal deposits received. Our website indicates 20 orders with 2 checks on their way in.

This thread was about 3 inch swingvalve and how people are trying to get it made by spreading the message. But certain turbododge owner are preventing the words being spread out by banning people and deleting threads, thus lower the chance of 3 inch swingvalve being made.

I like you fine, I can't say the same about RickP. Banning people because people are talking about "unmentionable" via e-mails ... that's so kindergarten.

come on guys. i completely understand. i wasn't fully aware as to what was going on 'till after i posted my comment. being a mod on td i see some but not all that goes on. i picked up the phone & called chris to let him know about the post that was made that i commented about. i thought it was lame....

lets get these into production but also rember to be professional. i've been in the parts biz all my life and i enjoy it every day. chris has steped up to the plate with offering these and only taking 1/5 of the money as a deposit....something i would have never done.

its obvious what was done wasn't the right thing to do....hell i'm guilty of it myself a time or too.

lets get these valves made and let the BS die.

Besides that, there is also Boosted Mopar as well.

Man, no one has posted in the TIII section over there in almost a year.

Quick ?: Is this 3" SV only for aftermarket turbos or will it bolt up to a stock turbo on my TIII?

I don't know yet if I'm going to upgrade my turbo. Most likely I will but just in case I don't, I wouldn't want to be stuck with a part I can't use...

Is this thread about a 3" swing valve or your BS on TD?

:Dits about everything, the 3" swingvalve, getting the word out and the BS on TD with mentioning TM.com or TU.com

thats the diffrence over here, you have freedom of speech and wont get banned for mentioning words like, turbododge, FWDP, TU, rick p, whatever.

i forgot you modded over there, i got the warning then movaldes sent me a pm, i emailed him and then i get BANNED!!!:thumb: it doesnt say i am banned, i just cant log in.:confused2:

is rick p that worried about losing people? it seems like he doesnt give a crap about sdac or the sport in general, just those insanely high $25 donations!!! thats why i havent contributed since it was $10, what a rip off!!!

It doesn't matter at this point, they pulled the post. What an as$. Good run though Josh, great work! :D

thanks, it was all worth it, we got a few deposits and new members out of it, F-THEM. all i do over there anyways is help with all the newbies, no sweat off my sack!

Apparently in TD, you can get banned by forwarding a message from RickP that says you will be banned soon.

this is a swingvalve thread but like all big threads, they go on and off topic alot, no one really seems to mind or i am sure all of this would have gotten deleted back to the point before it was mentioned. over there, yeah you guys have to crack down on going off topic and threads like this, but why are you guys getting upset about it? i am not upset about being banned, i'm not messaging any td mods about being banned, i am just laughing at how the site has changed for the worse and most the guys that filled that site up with its first 10,000 posts dont even want to be a part of it anymore, its a shame really. all the guys that taught me and learned with me seem to stay over here.

i support barry and sdac, chris and TU along with frank and TM, TD does not and thats the biggest conflict and upset to ever happen to everyone who enjoys the hobby.

3-4 of us got banned for helping the community, thats wrong, even if the other communitys owner doesnt want help.

you should know me well enough to know that i was not referring to you at all. i like you and just about every moderator there and never had any problems with any of them other than lugert. some may be a little ----y and errogant but hey, people are entitled to be dicks, they just dont have many friends as a result.

i dont know who did the actual banning and could care less, if it was you, then i really dont want to know as i believe your a good guy and we share a common cause.

who i was referring to as F-them is the owner(s) and the way they run their show over there.

and the "snakes" is whoever i told about the 3" sv and turbos unleashed and the thread over here and got offended and blew the whistle. i believe it was a contributing member as none of the mods contacted me or posted.

i am not trying to start ---- and never have i was on TD soon after it started with a shared account and then made my own once i had internet setup. i have been there longer than most and am one of the few people that prefer this site and still even bother logging in over there. i am just sharing about what happened as a result of us helping the other community, just like tryingbe, moparzrules and probably 86trbolancer.

yes a custom down pipe is greater than any swingvalve, but not everybody has access to a custom down pipe or a good fabricator and we both know jackson is swamped;), so the TU 3" swingvalve is a great bolt on piece that will add horse power, save you money from buying a external wastegate and it will bolt right up to your existing 3" down pipe.

Don't want to speak for Chris, but I'm sure he will take the 20.50 now or when you complete the transaction. When placing the order online, it automagically added the shipping onto the deposit, so those of us that paypal through the site have already paid the shipping :)

I just did a quick check and 30 people have placed deposits for the SV via the TU website. A few have sent checks in and paid via Pay Pal directly without placing an order so I would have to go through all the PP purchases we have received since mid July for a more accurate count. It would be very helpful if those who have paid direct would place on order on our site using Check/Money Order as form of payment. Please include your PP transaction number or check number so we can confirm.

Quick question though Chris. If we get TO 40 and you start the process, is there any room for others to put in request after the order is placed BEFORE a final cutoff and no more orders to be taken? I mean, is there a point where you cannot add to the existing 40 units or once you place the order, that's it? Just wondering for anyone interested in buying one after the fact.

It's tough to say at this point where the final price will be on the remaining 60. Our costs do change all the time. No matter what though, we have committed to the first 40 @ $250. and we will honor that price. From the slow response on these deposits though, I am thinking there will be plenty on our shelves for a very long time. So, I wouldn't worry too much about them disappearing anytime soon.

Also, I would like to clarify something.

I know early on there were concerns of customers forfeiting deposits if the $200. balance could not be provided once we were ready to ship the SVs. Let's just say if you cannot come up with the balance at that time we would still credit you towards a swingvalve purchase, but, you would not be able to take advantage of the $250. price.

Hope that helps ;)

I don't see the cons of getting one, so not sure what the hold up is.

You are giving every reason TO get one. $70 up front (deposit+shipping, applied to the final balance), final payment when it's ready to ship (2-6 months after the process begins) and the flexibility to pay later and only paying an additional $25 if after the 40th person to pay in full. Is this correct? Not sure what the downside is slackers. :D

I've been reading on this forum occasionally for a few months now. Hadn't even realized that I never registered until I went to post a reply to this thread :D (Also read this thread for the first time today)

I'll try to help get this thing over the top, even though I can't bolt it to the Mitsu that's in the car....... but plan to eventually install a T2. Hell, the intercooler and RMVB are still on the shelf, so may as well grab some more puzzle pieces. (2.5 T1 is freshly rebuilt, installed 3" exhaust from the downpipe back and G-valved at 12 psi right now - runs pretty decent)

Responded to the poll and will order/PayPal this evening.

Chris should have the most precise count, because some people paid different ways that we cant count so maybe when he gets a chance he can post the new paid list for us...;)

Heck I'll sponsor someone if need be. There's plenty of time to gather your acorns for this, so what's the big deal? Get ta steppin' people.

Numbers.......

At this point we are about 3 shy of reaching our goal of 40.

I have some good news though in regard to those who first provided us with a deposit. It seems we have a few extra SVs from our previous batch which are available. I will be contacting those members directly in the next couple of days to inform them of their order status.

Thanks for everyone's show of support!:thumb:

well guys, i know i said i would have my deposit in before the end of the month, but i have to hold onto every dollar i have until the 8th when i go to court and see how much they want to keep me out of the slammer.

i got a lifetime ban from TD for it, i hope you guys get your quota and make this happen so i can have one of the other 60 units.

glad to have helped with advertising chris, you have always been good to me and you can expect a big order this winter from me, i have to rebuild my t3 engine, need a clutch and lsd, a turbo and some other odds and ends.

A ban from TD.com is like being told you can't visit China or Cuba again. What a loss....really... :D
