Its not completely finished, I have to add the O2, EGT bungs and a support bracket from the side of the head to the turbo flange to support the weight but its down hill now, I'm happy with the way things laid out, its still tight in the engine compartment (L-body) but clears everything enough where its not going to burn anything. The welds look sloppy but I'm learning, and I do have a backup plan, when I'm done I'm dishing it off to my cousin Sobe who is a welder by trade to make sure it doesn't fall apart. When I get it back I will take better photos.

Wow, that looks so awesome. You're going to get people wanting you to do their headers!

Before it gets bolted on the car for good, I'm going to make a jig so it can be reproduced. I can also draft it in CAD if anybody knows a tubing bender that would be willing to make some tubes up. But nothing is going to happen until I get the car on the road and tested.

Very Nice! Is this going in an omni?

I really like the turbo placement.

I think that fits in the car better than TU's "header" :)

Wow, that is a very nice job for what you must have in to it. The pragmatist in my is thrilled beyond belief. The ultra small voice in my head that is a theorist and perfectionist is satisfied too. Top that off with the fact that it will fit in an L body and I say that you are the man.

thanks for the kudos, the small voice in my head says "it better freakin work or you peeessed away alot of time and money". If you go to this site www.crazy4carz.com and go to the gallery link, you can follow my progress on the car, look for the blue GLH, click on the thumbnails for a larger picture. Sorry I have to plug that site, its my buddy's and my car is in his garage!

Looking through your gallery is impressive for sure. Are you done with that intake yet? Did you modify the strut towers for better handling, and if so how has that worked out for you?

Man your car is going to be awesome!!! I love the custom cluster. Please keep us informed on your progress.

hahahah, its all theory for now, nothing has been tested. Usually you do one modification and test, not this time around.

(quick background) I've owned 4 GLHs thru the years, with each one doing a little more than the last, the car I have now, I used to own 3 years ago, thats when I did the dash and spearco intercooler, 555 trans with other stuff, it ran strong but severe wheel hop on launch (open dif and street tires). I bought the car back for pennies on the dollar but it was not running. I take that back, it did run with a hole in every piston, amazing.

I put a strut tower brace on and it made a difference, so now I tied in the shock towers to the unibody and nothing flexes now, so I have high hopes for that mod, should help with autocrossing too.

The intake is under construction, I have 2 maybe 3 ways to go with it, I was planning on throwing out my ideas to you guys and see what you guys think. there isn't much info out there on turbo intakes. I am loosely basing it on Edelbrock designs but I have to adapt it to the Chrysler one piece. Edelbrocks Honda intake has stupid short runners and the Honda guys run large throttle bodies, in theory it doesn't work for a NA engine, but Edelbrock knows their stuff.

Dave Clarks Rally GLH has the strut towers tied into the car like that. Intake is off to a good start. I'd cut the runners down into the plenum more.

Nice to see more custom headers :thumb: A couple more bends and a little more pipe and you'd have equal length runners on it too :)

Looks good! It looks like it fits good, I might have brought the turbo out a little farther to make it easier to work on. But still a good job!:thumb:

A couple more bends and a little more pipe and you'd have equal length runners on it too
that was always in the back of my mind but I didn't for a few reasons
1. no room in an Omni and more pipe would mean more heat to the intake.
2. the #4 dumps right into the collector, #2 and #3 fire opposed so each tube should have its own exhaust with no back pressure.
3. I don't think the scavaging benefit is there with a turbo car. Under boost there is pressure negating scavaging and during normal driving there will be either a small back pressure present or the spinning blades might help draw the exhaust out.
4. cost. This crap is expensive, $2 an inch locally and what you see is version 2.5

I might have brought the turbo out a little farther to make it easier to work on
its easy to get to, might not look it in the picture and trust me, there is only one spot THAT turbo can sit, its a .82 housing, a stock turbo or one with a built in wastegate should have a little more room and be able to use a stock intake manifold. I was "going all in" and wanted the wastegate accessible too

Yep, I understand those reasons you made your decisions for sure :thumb:

For some of the same reasons is why I made a shorty header. :)

Quick question,

Why the flex in the wastegate plumbing? If it's all bolted together, it SHOULDNT flex. PLease explain, 'cause im stumped.

fishcleaner
07-16-2008, 11:04 PM
Normally the wastegate would just vent to the atmosphere but I wanted it quiet. The tubing is stainless steel and can move alot when heated, maybe enough to crack the housing of the wastegate, just playing it safe. The flex pipe is sandwiched between the 2 pieces, not even tacked in, it was a good friction fit.
