Anyone have the specs handy? Groove width and depth and what O.D. it needs.

What kind of wire (SS, Music, Copper, etc...)

TIA:thumb:

FYI: 89 Common Block with a G-Head (if it matters...)

If I were to build a new engine I would skip the orings. We now have cometic gaskets that are better and can't use the orings.

I had to go with a thicker gasket and my only choice was full copper because of the orings. If I didn't have them then I could have ordered a thicker cometic.

The cometic gasket does require a smoother deck surface and is expensive though so that is something to consider.

IMO if you are considering doing the orings you can probalby afford the cometic so why not just get it.

Already run Cometic and I have no issues with it other than price. I don't reuse the Cometic but a copper one is reusable (I do this on my Blown Injected Challenger, 1400hp+). I don't trust the MP gasket (non o-ring style) but wanted to try the MP O-ring gasket (I'm only pushing 27psi)

I'm finding that the MP 006 gasket doesn't like more than 25psi consistantly from my turbo either...

Good thread.

also, been thinking thru the same senario, just curious, where's the cheapest place to buy the Cometic gaskets? and ho wmuch?

Hmmm... Reeves stays together forever with the 006 gaskets on his Omni.

Ancient chinese secret!!! LOL

He's running a g headed 2.5L with a good tune. We spray the 006 with the permatex copper. Both sides. Heck, he even uses mp head bolts.

So how much boost and timing is in this ancient chinese secret? lol...

LOL 14-15 degrees initial and 28 psi. His compression is about 7.5:1 or so (not sure exactly as once told 7.2:1 then 7.8:1, so I averaged :thumb:)

Less compression helps :thumb:

Seems simular to mine. Around 7.25 static compression(g head:thumb: ) 12 degress initial and 27psi boost (on pump gas:D Thanks Paul!:thumb: ).

Looks like the 006 gasket might live in my setup also. Worth a try, worst case is I'll have to step up (again) to the Cometic if it can't take it.

Then you have people like me that blew a cometic out. :o

So much for using used head bolts when in a pinch. Studs and an 006 should work pretty well for most applications I would think. But- I think the studs are a huge part of that equation.

Steve, do you have studs or bolts?
