Launching in 2nd? good or bad idea?

Ok so here's the deal. My 90 A568 2nd syncroes suck, it only seems to shift into 2nd about 5% of the time and i cant down shift into 2nd whats so ever. I have a race coming up on sunday and i'm getting kinda sick of not running the car as hard as i can simply due to the fact 2nd gear dosent work all to well.

Can I launch in 2nd and not put an over welming amount of stress on the clutch?


Here's my basic set up.

FULL street trim 87 daytona shelby z w/ t-tops
Hybrid 2.5l w/ stock T3 and a .63 turbine
2.5" DP with 3" after that, no cat and dynomax muffler
relentless 3 bar/+40 g-head cal
15psi for now
10* base timing
big IC
TU 6 puck with extream duty PP
walbro fuel pump
22 x 8 x 15" slicks
all solid motor mounts even the bobble strut
100% stock A568

225whp and 310wtq (actual dyno numbers)
I launch around 4500rpm and my 60's are on avrige 2.1


so what do you guys think of launching in 2nd?

Clutch should be able to handle it no problem, the 6 puck/yellow plate can easily hold 350 WHP and 400+ ftlbs in a daytona. Only putting 225 to it won't even make it blink dropping it in second gear. I'd be far more worried about the trans itself holding up rather than the clutch.

Its will probably build boost pretty quick.:)

Believe me my friend when I say that i'm not worried about the stock A658 trans that the car has now whats so ever. I have an A523 w/ 3.50 FD and LSD at a shop getting put togeather for me ;)

The more power you have the easier it will be to do. On both my 98 SOHC Neon (125 hp nitrous) and my Miata (100 hp nitrous) I launched in 2nd gear do to 1st just going up in smoke. The Neon ran 12.11 at 117 and the MX5 ran 12.65 at 109.

In normal every day driving I would not use 1st on the Neon....same thing with my 05 SRT4, with enough power 1st is not needed.

not the slightest bit. worst comes to worst, i toss in an A555 for a cuple weeks.
