Platinum must be at some sort of all time high market value right now... or the buyers are painting them silver and re-selling them to stupid car owners?

EDIT: There have been many reports of new vehicles losing cats around here, I can see how those are expensive cuz they are new, not some worn out 20 y/o junk.

It's the price of platinum.... That is what the recyclers are buying them for...

Tell ya what Allen, I'll store it for you to pick-up and sell next year at SDAC....

It doenst matter how old they are, the materials inside remain the same. I actually just sold my non running 1991 grand prix for 400 bucks, only because it still had the factory cat on it.

Dude, I am SO THERE for 19 in Cincy:amen: There was some dissapointment this year that I didn't throw up anywhere:D so save me a nice choice spot on your lawn for the Friday night pre-SDAC party for me to carry on the tradition:lol: I am shipping two FedEx crates with tools/Nitrous stuff to SDAC's these days. They were way heavier on the way home this year, good parts at the swap meet:eyebrows:...

actually no, it is called a catalytic converter for a reason...in a chemical reaction the catalyst is consumed.

But the materials the junkers want, is not, at least from what I understand.

Not consumed it just changes into a different chemical compound.

That would be consumed....

Point being, it takes a lot to use up the platinum which is what they try to to salvage, but it can be "used up" or even get shot out the tail pipe in chunks. OEM cats have a much higher content.

I've got a post about a bad crack going and now I've said unit. I must be tired because I normally catch these things with my 16 year old mentality (that I hope I never loose). I've got to stay on my toes or the students in my classes will catch it all for sure.
