Oh Hi. I'm Napoleon. For some reason I can't close my hood.

Oh this is why.

Just threw the neon tires on tonight. I think I may need to cut the control arms and thread a turnbuckle for it to get the right camber. It may settle once the car moves. I also have to bend the filler neck a bit.

My fancy subframe mounts that took 3 days. Keep in mind those cross bolts have no load, the just squeeze the mounts to keep from shifting. Yes that is a SRT subframe. Mounted without cutting it up.

AHHH! I was waiting for the first person on 5 boards to say that.

It's actually Napoleon Bonaparte. The small french guy with attitude issues.

Thanks for the props though.:thumb:

Wow... you're doing more than just an engine swap... jesus...

Definately interested in seeing how this turns out. :)

Dang this is soooo making me want to find a clean sport coupe or R/T 99 and under and swap the 2.4 in. SRT4 performance and more without the dough.

Nice work so far, good fab skills too:thumb:

Still chugging along. It's sweaty balls --- hot here so I'm only working a few hours a day.

And no SRT's are not french. 1st gens are. And I hate the french so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

How are 1st Gen Neons French? Mine was built in Belvidere, IL. :confused2:

I have a dumb question I've been meaning to ask for quite some time....

Is it really that hard to relocate everything from a 4dr SRT to a dr coupe? I've always wondered why no one seems to do this and maybe this is the time to learn. I'm all ears...

Nice work BTW...

It's difficult to go from an SRT to a 1st gen coupe or sedan mainly because of wiring issues.

There are motor mount adaptors available that make that part easy, you can use the 1st gen transmission on the SRT engine (but it's not the badass T850, just the standard T350), and you can get a megasquirt that plugs into the factory harness nowadays. But to use actual SRT4 wiring, it takes a LOT more work than you'd think. The 2nd gen Neons have BCM action controlling everything whereas 1st gen Neons are just... normal I guess.

Gotcha... what about from an SRT4 to a 2nd or 3rd gen or whatever?

Hey Nate....how about a future project of a SRT4 drive train into 1810 lb Matchbox! All the electronics and every thing....maybe even the dash pod from the SRT4...From what I hear the 2.4 will bolt up to our trannies with 3 of the 4 bolts. My tranny's a A413 from a turbo, but I would love to reinforce the front end and go back to a five speed....not to mention that I get just under 23 mpg with the carb 2.5 and my SRT4 with stage 2 gets just under 33, both driven at a steady 65-70 with no stops.

Great work dude...keep it up!:hail:

Belvidere IL, isn't that on the riviara?

Luckily because it's all parts from my old car, I have the full uncut harness. I'll have to splice in light's prob but that is chicken feed.

As far as motor mount adaptors I'm using the SRT ones, I'll have to come up with something for the centre mount. IMO the ghey bobble strut is useless, unless you buy a racing one.

That is the T850 I'm using as well. To mount it I should have ground all the metal off the inside of the mount instead of evenly. (Narrower by 1/2 inch) So today I need to shim it over to the pass by 1/2 inch because it's 1 inch to the drivers.

SRT4 to 2nd gen Neon (there is no 3rd gen Neon) is freakin easy if you have a parts car. Basically swap everything over and you're done.

That's what I thought. Am I just missing the boat or do a lot of people throw them into 2 dr coupes? How come I never see those??

I just don't know why. You aren't saving weight or anything really, except a little insurance.

I have noticed something interesting. The whole 1st gen is 1 gauge thinner steel then the 2nd gen.

Well, technically you can save a LOT of money... besides the insurance you can pick up a wrecked SRT4 and a clean 2nd gen for about $5000-6000 total versus the $12,000 or more for a clean SRT4.

Plus, I would rather sport a 2 door car than mom's "grocery getter" 4 dr. The handling, weight, and aerodynamics factor might not be much, but I think that just being a sporty 2 door would be enough for me. Plus, insurance doesn't care what you put in it because when it's all said and done a motor swap will NOT increase the value of said vehicle nor help with a claim, so why should they even know about it... ;)

Funny cause insurance when your older and married like me doesn't matter really SRT4 versus 2nd gen.. Really only applies to the 25 and under crowd there. I did see a clean wrecked SRT go for less than 5k with less than 40k miles on it. Had been smashed in the middle on one side , but you could still drive it anywhere.. Bags didn't deploy which was an added bonus! I'm all about swapping the earlier 2.4 into a 1st gen R/T or sport coupe. Seems like a good route. Get a sport coupe or R/T with blown motor or something at an auction and boom.. Cheap arse 2 door. Build a 2.4 to your needs and 5k later you have a beast.

I saw a guy at a car show a couple weeks ago that had a 1st gen Neon coupe with the SRT-4 motor. He used the stock manual transmission, but there was some clearance issue that prevented him from putting the car in reverse. So he and his wife had to push it into the parking spot.

Wow, looks like you did things the hard way. I swapped in a stock SRT-4 motor and went 11.6 last year. Mechanically all it needed was a passenger side motor mount adapter. Electronically, yeah, I made my own harness and used an aftermarket EMS. Why change the K-Frame and all of that when you don't have to?
