I think this is the right place for this but not sure, found a 88 shelby lancer about 20mins from my house. Went to go look at it out of curiosity, because i know some people keep records of which numbered cars are still alive. I didnt see a number plate on the car but maybe im looking in the wrong place. I was thinking maybe the vin would tell what number it is. VIN=1B3BX68A5JN209132. Anyone know if the vin would tell what number the car is?

If it's an 88, it's a Lancer Shelby and does not carry a #

Yeah like Ken said, the '88 Lancer Shelby cars did not get numbered plaques like the '87 Shelby Lancers did. If I recall correctly, there were actually less '88 Lancer Shelbys made than '87 Shelby Lancers.

Ironic thing is, the Lancer Shelby's were set up better than the Shelby Lancers. The non Whittier cars got a forged bottom end and a 555, the SL made due with cast/520. The world's not fair Mom always said:o

What wheels did the '88 Lancer Shelby come with? 16" lace like the T-II GTC Lebarons? I LOVE those 16" Shelby Lancer wheels.

The '88 Lancer Shelby's came with Eggshell wheels if I'm not mistaken...but I can't be 100% sure today lol, too much other stuff on my mind.

And the wheels on the Shelby Lancers were 15 inch, not 16. My brother has a set for sale too if you're interested :thumb:

Yeah, eggshells seems to sound right as I saw a Lancer Shelby in my hometown about 8 years ago...white in color.

The Shelby Lancer wheels being 15"...I thought they were 16? Black spoke with the CS badge in the center, with a polished rim. Only seen one Shelby Lancer in person, so I may be wrong.

This car had i wanna say "lebaron GTC" wheels on it, looks like the crab wheels but different. The car is for sale....$1495.Its not stickered so they might go lower. Now that everyone mentions it, it did say Lancer Shelby i just figuired there was no difference, only the year. The car looks in decent shape, little bit of rust on RR but the rest of the paint is great. If anyones interested i could help direct them to the car. Did these cars come in any color other than red? thats all i see.

the one I spoke of was white. Had the ugly spoiler on the roof as well to distinguish it from the Shelby #rd car.

88 Lancer Shelbys came with 15" eggshells that were silver if the car was not white. The white cars came with white Eggshells. (the 89's came with 15" lace wheels like on the TI Lebarons did in 89.

There was a total of less them 500 made in 88 & 89 (279 in '88 208 in '89)

My 88 Lancer Shelby also comes up on carfax as an ES

I've seen them in red, white, and black and all I've seen had leather. Lancer Shelby's were intercooled but Lancer turbo ES were not. Of course on a 16 year old car anything could be changed...

The Shelby Lancer rims are 15" but also 6.5" wide, it's nice to have that extra 1/2 inch (wouldn't we all :eyebrows: )

Most Lancer Shelbys are intercooled, however, the automatic cars came with a TI and no intercooler. I had a friend with a 88 automatic car.

Going by the VIN posted above the car in question is a TII 5spd car.

Good Find!

yah it is a 5spd intercooled car. Looked under and saw the intercooler hoses, says intercooled turbo on the gfx also. The car i saw must have the original wheels cuz they look exactly like shmedley's but silver. I thought all shelby lancers came with the lace wheels.

Shelby Lancers have the lace wheels, Lancer Shelby do not.

You are confusing the two cars the same way I used to. To be able to better differentiate them, if they were made by Shelby at the Whittier plant, then Shelby's name came first...hence Shelby Lancer. If the car was made by Dodge, then the name Lancer came 1st as in Lancer Shelby.

Gotcha :)

Kinda like GLHS / SHLG? lol

Actually more like GLH-S and GLH-Turbo with the exception being that the "better" car was built by Dodge and not by Shelby in the Lancer's case.

I bought an 87 SL AZ car with all the matching numbers in Jan for 1500. The owner knew I would keep it original and not mess up the future value in 10-20 years. I would tell him that and see. I would have bought the one in this thread or another in 87 SL in St. Louis but it was rough. I'd say try $1,000 or less if you want it.

Looney, I got my '87 SL for $500 all matching everything down to the non-functional Dex 77. The owner contacted me to see if I would buy it. He tried for 2 years to start it to no avail. Every sensor replaced. wiring harness 100% gone through all connections cleaned... No go. He said the paint was rough.

The family drove to columbus and 1st take was ... "That's rough"... "Patty, write the check!!!" Had it home 24 hours and fired it up. The alarm system went fubar and the ignition kill was the only thing wrong. .99c jumpers from radioshack and I drove it ito the driveway. Came with tons of spare parts including a still in mopar bag NOS center cap... Still sitting in the driveway. Fires up like clockwork. Just waiting to do a re-paint and fix the infamous front of the rear wheel well rust issue. (not bad though)

It will eventually be my daily driver with the # matching drivetrain pulled and carefully stored.

Amen ;) BTW I think I'm at 7 TD's plus Sebring and *(OLDS)*dd
I'll post pics of the inside of the rocker panels soon to show where they rust from inside out at the jacking points. I cut a spare open to see. Get Permatex rust repair and drill 1/8" holes on inside of wheel well and spray before patching. I used piece of vac hose for spray tube on nozzle to get continuous coverage. It has acid in it, so don't inhale too much.

Sweet, Thanks for the tip. I fluctuate between 6 and 7 td's. Lately I've been buying one to get parts (like the PA 600 ES convertible). Currently in the stable,
90 daytona es TI auto
87 SC TII Auto
87 SL Bone stock
2 87 GLHS's
and the 600 ES vert.

Plus the Dakota quad cab 360...
The Grand Prix GTX
and the bonneville

Best news is they ALL fit in the garage or driveway and there is still access to the garage!!! ( I love the horseshoe driveway!!!)

We just got my Son's 88 TII Lancer Shelby running *today*, red with eggshells.

It had a whacked K member, bent so bad that the RH axle would come apart at the CV joint... :(

So we went to the parts department, 89 Daytona Shelby 4 piviot K with big sway bar and Energy Suspension poly bushings. :thumb:

It runs well, made it home on it's maiden flight... :amen:

Best of all, it was *free*, just for towing this old "junk" car off this guy's lot.

I read on one of the websites there were only 168 88 LS's.

Just sold my 88 LS. It had some pretty bad cancer. So a couple of you got a SL cheap. Where were those cheap cars when I had my tax return. So continues the quest for a shelby lancer.

Pretty bad cancer we're going to fix, right Joe? :)

But in all seriousness, they're nice. I love mine, even though it has some rust...

Ok, I worked at a Dodge dealer from 89-92 and have a friend who is the original owner of an 88 Lancer Shelby, so I feel qualified to step in on this one.

The 88 Lancer Shelby got the eggshell wheels. If it was a white car, the eggshell wheels were white. My friend Greg Robertson has an 88 Lancer Shelby he bought new. It has the white eggshell wheels.

The 89 Lancer Shelby got snowflakes. I was the detailer at my Dodge dealership in Jarrettsville, MD and we sold a new 89 Lancer Shelby. It was red, 2.5 T1 auto with snowflake wheels.

The Shelby Lancer was #'d and was 1987. That got the lace wheels.
