I heard about the booger bushing but can not find them anywhere. Does the A555 use them on the shifter itself? I have an inch of side to side, and up and down play on my shifter, I adjusted the cables, and everything is tight past the actual shifter.

Booger bushings are only for A568, A523, and A543

Sounds like you need some new shifter cables or check to see the shifter cables clips are there on shifter bracket on top of the transmission.

Well the shifter will move, and the cables will stay still. Something in the base of the shifter is allowing movement before it will even move the cables. I thought there may have been some bushings. Maybe it is just the way it is.

Or maybe you need a new shifter. 1 inch up and down play is way too much.

I meant front to back. What would even allow it to have that much play though?

the little plastic ends that connect to the shifter could be hollowed out where it meets the ball. put some electrical tape around the ball and pop the cable back on. should band aid it.

people NEVER mention the parts on the shifter itself.. there is a bushing on the little ball stud that comes out the left side of the shifter and when that thing goes it has a ton of play left-to-right. im forgetting right now what the thing looks like for front to back but there ARE things that wear out in the shifter to make it do that, and sadly i dont know where to get them.. im using some plumbing hardware on mine : /

LOL

Anyways, its probally those black plastic peices that roach juice mensioned, that are on the balls of the bolted in cable ends.

Also, are you talking when the car is IN gear?!? you have a inch of play side to side??! and front to back without it popping out of gear??!?, if thats the case, trying be is right, check the trans mountings..

I think you are missing some info here...doen't make sense. You say you can move the rod (shifter) side to side an inch and it wont do anything with the cables(which is normal) If its up and down , then the black ball bushings are loose.

ask him if he makes the bushing that goes on the side of the shifter and has NOTHING to do with the cable ends PLZ. : /

It has play in and out of gear. While in gear the shifter will still move a little bit side to side, but the cable does not move. It is getting some play before the cable. Probably the bottom of the shifter as stated. I will have to tear into and check it out.

He does have something for the cable ends on the A555/A520, though? That's good news. I didn't know there was anything available for those. I'm gonna need some one of these days.

Good, post some pictures.

Are you talking about "bushings" or "cable ends"?

with those i would think the thing to do is drill all the way through and put a snug bolt through it and the shift arm....

I fixed my shifting problems. Found out the ghetto rigged clutch cable bracket the previous owner put on was moving when I pushed down the clutch.

Got a bracket from another member. That turned out to be about 1-1/4 inches to short. So I redrilled the holes, and this thing shifts so nice now.:D:D
