I know that the 04-05's come with the Quaife and the 03's don't but is there any reason I should get one over the other? I might be looking at a couple 04-05's today so just wondering.....

04/05 - quaife and bigger injectors stock (basically Stage 1 injectors come in the 04/05 from the factory).

Sweet, there is a place a couple miles from me that has about 7 of them so I'm going to check them out after I drop my daughter off at school in a little while. I think after the luck I've had the last couple days it's time to treat myself lol.

2003- racoon headlamps, no sunroof, no kicker sound system, micheilin pilot sport tires, only offical year for solar yellow (some yellow 2004's were made), rubber pedals
2004 - all chrome head lamps, optional sunroof, optional kicker sound, quaif diff standard, bf goodrich kdw2 tires, satage 1 injectors but no computer, only year for e-blue, bright pedals
2005 - same as 2004 with addition of commemorative package and acr package, no battery temp sensor, only year for stone white and orange blast

all three years you can have red, black and silver

all 3 years are pretty good, and it's only parts to go from 2003 to 2004 (excpet the sun roof unless you like cutting holes) but if you want to go full bore you want a 2005 ACR edition in orange blast w/ viper seats, sun roof and kicker sound. that car new stickered at about 25,000 (extra for the OB paint). my black acr with all the sunroof/ sound system was just over 24,000 sticker

it is, but only for the first half. early 2005's are silver, later ones are white. here's one

WOW! 65,000 miles and they want $17000 for it!
I wonder what I could get for my 04 with 9000 miles.

And 05 did have the most problems with the transmission.

wasnt the orange blast 05 only?

correct

special color break down as follows:

2003: solar yellow, a few 2004's snuck out with it as well, and if you have a yellow 04 with a sunroof, you have a rare one indeed.

2004 electric blue repalces yellow

2005 stone white replaced silver mid year and orange blast repalced e-blue for the entire model year run

red, black, and silver are the only 3 colors common to all three years

The two I looked at today were an 05 white/sunroof/kicker 24k miles and an 05 black/sunroof/kicker 36k miles. Waiting for the finance guy to call me so I can go back and crunch some #'s.

You have to watch as some 05's don't have the 7/70 Powertrain warranty.

correct..... in 2005 you could buy the 7/70, and once the car is sold, the new owner can pay a transfer fee and retain the warrenty.

really, it's not a deal breaker if the car doesn't have it so long as it was taken care of. if the car is modded, i'd be cautious as the warrenty could be voided. run the vin w/ the dealer and see what they say.

incorrect.... in 2004 the 7/70 was standard AT FIRST, then later dropped to the regular 3/36. after that if you wanted a 7/70 you had to pay for it. i have the 7/70 on my 2005, it was about an axtra $1300 or so.. i'll have to look at my paper work to get the exact $$$$..

When I worked at the stealership some 05's had the 7/70 standard and then was dropped the middle of 05 model year. I remember well as I had to sell extended warranties on them.

I want way too many cars. There was an 04' Yellow, 70K, sunroof here in town a while ago. It was before I got my Neon or my Charger back. I had put a down payment for it when the guy sold it out from under me. :( I would be dead anyway...

I'd just get a car fax. They can't hide a paper trail. You can always find out what states a car was titled in. My friend got a Cadillac Catera that the guy even told him was a flood car for 3500 and had no problems ever and at the time they were going for over 10k used. Still be cautious. If I was looking I'd be wanting to get an ACR or an E-blue one.

I have a silver '05 and basically what I've read is that the 04's are the "best" to buy because they have everything the 05's do except the 04's PCM isn't as touchy as the 05's. Mine I would definitely describe as finnicky to put it mildly.

I am pretty sure all 05s had the 3/36. If any had the 7/70 it would have been real early in the model year. Check your build date or better yet, check the window sticker if you have it.

If the sunroof was factory.
That would have been one to get.

I'm not convinced the SRT's are going to be very collectible. In fact I really doubt it, they're just about one of the best deals if you can find "the right buy." I hope that I'm wrong in that regard but the materials are cheap and I really can't see these cars lasting as long as the original TD's are/have been. Most of my old TD's still have very nice interiors including stock carpets and headliners and they're 20 years old. I'd be amazed if the stuff in my SRT holds up, dash and plastics aside. The reason I'm seeing fewer and fewer old TD's here in CA at least is that this state wants ALL old cars off the road. They are imposing stricter and stricter smog/safety regulations and have a decent buy-back program that is good for the first 3 months of the year LOL. I wouldn't be surprised if other states start doing the same things. Hang onto 'em while you've got 'em guys.

Eh, I don't know. It's a tough call. too many factors at work here.

on the one hand you have a bunch of (mostly kids) buying and wrecking them, which makes fewer of them out there....which you would think would drive the price up. the old supply/ demand economics 101 thing......

on the other hand, the 80's/90's turbo cars really haven't apprecaited much. you see nice ones go for the $5000 range. which I suppose isn't bad considering most of them new were under $10,000, but the really haven't appricated like the muscle cars have.

i certainly agree: hang on ot them if you have them, you never know.

Yes, I have also heard this. I have also heard that there are problem with the 05 tranny?
As far as collectabitlity goes, I think that they will stay very collectable, for the same reason that people want them now. They are quick and there are a ton of aftermarket parts for them. As time goes on and they get cheaper, it will be easier for the younger crowd to get ahold of them and then they will disapear even more. If I had to guess, i would guess that roughly around 1/3 of them have been wrecked already. Judging by the insurance auto auction sites, there are many wrecked ones to choose from.

06-21-2008, 10:06 PM
When I had my 05 I had some troubles with the tranny. Reverse to be more specific, I had to hold the shifter so it wouldn't disengage by itself. I still wish I hadn't sold it though. I think the best year SRT-4 is the one that you can afford without any headakes, they're all equally nice and fun.

I happened to see a window sticker for a 91 Spirit R/T here at SDAC.... $19,995 12 years before the SRT-4 came out at the same price. Something to think about.

SpiritedShelbys
06-22-2008, 03:15 AM
LOL I've been saying that for years. It took more than 12 years and people were extremely compliant in forgetting about Chrysler leading the 4cy turbo car market. They even advertised the SRT-4 the same way with the 224 horse rating. Ironically it's a case of recent history repeating itself. People didn't receive the original TD's very well because they challenged the V-8's supremacy and since the SRT-4 came out people have been unkind due to the model it's based on. I understand it's a niche vehicle but what the hell is enough? A stock 13 sec 4-dr which gets good fuel economy and sells at a hair under 20K is a bad thing these days?

I have heard about the funny computer issues with the 05's but have not seen any myself. my car is running a aem intake and cat delete pipe and mopar cat back. still passed deq inspection here. good luck with your search to find a nice one.

no its not all that loud unless under pretty heavy throttle. it could also be that I have never heard it any other way. with the kicker system in the car I am usually bumpin some tunes anyway.

I think all SRT-4's offer some nice amenities even if they don't end up being as collectable as a numbered car. Really they are a good platform to work with. I would probably beef up the rear control arm box with some plate steel and install a brace on the rear tower area inner. do an all tubular steel control arm setup and work my way on down. First and foremost I would get a car then find any bugs it has and work on those then go with mods as you have time and can afford them.

rich tideswell
06-27-2008, 02:59 PM
Manny-Z over on SRTForums makes tubular front and rear control arms, and you can buy adjustable rears from Mopar
