Ok, I am now running a tiny stainless mesh cat by Magnaflow, a Hooker MAX Flo muffler-stock location, full system with a side exit ala factory location, all 3 inch from the turbo back. It sounds awesome BUT drone at 100-120 km/h, of course, :( My last setup was a huge Magnaflow up front with a smaller 5x9 oval MF at the rear and it droned also and really stuffed up the exhaust. The new setup, wow, instant boost and throttle response.

Magnaflow Stainless Hi Flow Cat (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/59959-Magnaflow-Metallic-Catalytic-Cat-Converter-3_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33629QQihZ004QQitemZ1 40183425334)

I put a small Vibrant resonator at the rear and it helped but not enough, so looking thru Magnaflows catalogue, I've found some round mufflers, varying from 4" to 7" round case diameter. I don't think a 7" will fit so looks like a 6" case is the best compromise, they are 14" in case length ala-

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE%2D12619&N=700+115&autoview=sku

So what do you think? will it do the job? Any other options IE a round style Ultraflow? I don't think a race bullet will do anything and I have no room for a proper muffler, the old oval MF was a very tight fit and it would bang on rough roads etc.

Thanks for the help guys, :(

Anyhow, I put a nice shiny 7 inch round Magnaflow at the rear, its all they had in stock, #14719. It fit perfectly and so far, it knocked the drone out and took alot of noise out too. I will find out how much it worked on the freeway in a bit. Power seems to be the same whereas before, when I put the huge Magnaflow on up front, it knocked the power down big time, slowed turbo spool, :(

Sorry I didn't reply in time! What about your 40 series FM? Is it too big?

WOW, drone GONE. Its awesome, killer flow, still great power, dead quiet.

I would have put the FM back in but wanted as much flow as possible first, then if I couldn't get it quiet, I'd put that back in with a large resonator at back.

Probably. I just had a 40-series put on my Ram, and that thing is huge.

I have tons of room, ;)

PUtting it back on was the last resort, not to put FM down but if I couldn't make the exhaust quiet with straight thru mufflers, that would have gone back on, I'll post up some pics in a bit.

Are you sure you aren't thinking 50 series? Cuz the 40's are pretty normal size.

Simon, looks nice.

Thanks, and its QUIET,

Super40's are huge, :o

A super 40 is 5X10X13'' case, 19'' overall length.

A regular 40 series is 4X9.75X13'', the super 40 is just thicker pretty much, but both are on the smaller side!

I installed a magnaflow muffler on a van at work, I'll need to measure to make sure but it was about 5X16X24'' case and weighed 3-4 times what a regular 40 does. I've never owned a super 40, but the regular 40 series I had on my first car were small.

Bigger than the Magnaflow I ran and its larger than the MaxFlo I am running.

Which magnaflow?

Which magnaflow?

I think 5x9 oval.

Hmm, the 5X9 has a 14'' case length. So it's the same height, 1'' shorter width, but 1'' longer length....

I did some testing yesterday after i was forced to hack off my oldschool 3" + 4" internal Ultraflow to fit a trailor hitch on my Spirit. I put on a new 3" 3" internal Ultraflow (no more cool old ones being made :( ) that was on my Duster and I did tests with the exhaust exiting under the car a little bit, or extending the pipe beyond the car. Made a huge difference on the rear exit location of the cars (might not help on the van because of the location).

Oldschool Ultraflow going on my Duster and not it will just have that single muffler but i will make sure to extend the exhaust past the rear bumper (it ended like 1 foot before the rear bumper previously and that was horrible).

I tried years ago, straight out, turn down and the quietest was like stock, sticking out the right rear.

Either way, its quiet and its making tons of power, just ran my fastest 1/4 mile times tonight with no 3rd gear, :wow1:

Low 13's in a van, thats pretty fast.

What kind of 60 ft times and all that?

Edit-found your other thread, will post there...

I have run the Hooker since about 03, always been telling myself, I would like to do something about that drone. A lot easier on the ears inside the vehicle now??

Simon, looks nice.

I ran out and looked at the literature that came with the muffler. Yep, it's a 50-series.

My apologies. I keep sticking my foot in my mouth lately.
