Warning, clicking the pics will take you to very large hi res. pics.

The filter sock:

Check out how NASTY this inlet pump screen is! No wonder I had no FP under load!
Remember, this pump has ZERO miles on it!

At least the screen did its job as you can see here:

When I looked in the pump opening of the gas tank I saw this:

So I put the camera to the opening & took a a bunch of pics in the tank hoping to get a good shot since I couldn't see in & I guess I got lucky, picture-wise anway:

I cleaned the pump screen in the parts cleaner at work today & snapoped it back on the 255.
The new filter sock I ordered last night came in today.
The gas tank I ordered today will arrive on Monday.

I'm going to keep the Walbro for now.

I hope the tank was "it" as I'd love to start driving the car.

Wow, that tank has seen some condensation! Makes me not want to look inside my tanks!

had a similar problem in an 89 TBI omni. Replaced pump, ran fine for a week, then no fuel pressure under load. New pump, same outcome. Bought a new tank and pump, ran fine for a few years!

Wow, that tank has seen some condensation! Makes me not want to look inside my tanks!I attribute it to sitting since 1992.
had a similar problem in an 89 TBI omni. Replaced pump, ran fine for a week, then no fuel pressure under load. New pump, same outcome. Bought a new tank and pump, ran fine for a few years! And that's exactly what happened to my pal, which is why he gave up & has sat in his driveway for the last 8 yrs.
It had the exact same symptoms after he spent allot on a new 255 & other items.
When he sold it to me he said, "at least selling it to you it'll be appreciated & fixed since I know about these cars & have the contacts to help do whatever is needed".
That & all of his pals like the imports anyway so he couldn't even give it away.
I am doing as you did, getting a new tank & be done with fuel issues.
wow, you know that we still have to DL those Huge pics before the forum makes them smaller 5 mins on my DSL, lolSorry, I needed to take them in his res. as I am getting help from another who lives pretty far from me so I need to give & show him as much detail as I can!
I highly suggest cleaning out the fuel lines the best you can.Already planned on running the pump with the fuel lines disconnected when I get the new tank in.
Guess you found some of your fuel issues right there! Thanks for sharing the pics Butch, thats crazy how rusty that is inside! If it helps others, why not!

And like I did with my Daytona, I plan on tracking & documenting the progress of this restoration.

My old webpage, even with some broken links is still up!

Now & then I get emails asking how I did this or that & how long, how much it cost to do what I did.

Back then we only had the SDML, now we have here.

Wow, thats some serious rust. I bet you'll need to replace the fuel filter a couple times, ;)
