Who makes the HEPs that Mopar sells? I saw one on Rock Auto a couple of days ago for about $50. That is significantly less than what the Mopar unit costs last I checked. Is there any source for a good HEP without the high cost associated with purchasing the Mopar unit?

I take it the factory is the only place to get one still?

If you go to the dealership, check the price on a new Mopar distributor. It comes with a new HEP. When I bought one, it wasn't much more for the whole thing.

I haven't seen any of the aftermarket ones that were the same as the Mopar ones. I still get mine from the J-yard when I need them.

Just checked the price at dodgeparts.com (OEM catalog) on a distributor for a '90 Shadow TI. The distributor is $85 + $15.00 core. The HEP is $88.60.

That's what I was thinking about doing. Are the TBI HEPs the same as ours? I thought the were.

Thanks for the advise there. If I get a new one I will certainly get the set, as the shudders on the dist eventually loosen up from what I have read.

The TBI HEP is different. It only has one pickup inside while the turbo (MPI) models got two.

Shoot, there aren't to many turbo cars around here anymore for the pickin's. I guess I will have to order one. Thanks guys.

Cordes,
Yeah the turbo HEP's have two leads. One is grey & one is black. I bought my last one from the dealership with my son's Carmax discount.
I wish I would have known the whole distributor was a better deal.

I had the group buy for $50.00 each.

I can get more if needed.

The OEM ones are made by ?, the aftermarket ones are probably from China or Taiwen and are very failure prone. I learned to stop using aftermarket ones after a couple of customers had intermittant stalling issues and on a hunch, changed out the new HEP's with OEM's and problem solved.

Mine are OEM quality. Just ask Cindy and others who bought a few years ago.

I bought a Standard HEP from Rock auto for about 30 bucks. I carry an extra in the glovebox. I figure I can buy 3 Rock auto HEP's for the price of one Mopar. Im giving it a shot.

The thing about the J-yard is that most of the cars dont have Mopar HEP's anyways.
