View Full Version : Is my fuel pump large enough?

Okay I've heard the stock fuel pump is good for any amount of fuel, the pressure is there but just not the stacking of fuel with the mass amount of pressure a 255 puts out.

I'll be running +40's with a brand new, stock-sized fuel pump. I'm wondering if it'll be enough. I'm not sure on how many pounds we'll be running. I'm starting off at 12psi and might work my way up to the injector's limits.

Which brings another question. How many pounds of boost can +40s handle safely?? I don't want my EGT's going past 1,400.

No, I'm not sure where you heard that a stock pump is acceptable. Even if it were, why purchase one when a 255 HP Walbro is all of like $105 or so? It'd be worth it to be sure of.

I could see your stock pump running out of volume at that boost level on a T4 compressor side, which IIRC you have. So yeah, get a better pump.

Stock pump wont' be able to keep up, you will run lean and go bye bye. YOu have to ask yourself, is a $100 worth a melted engine?

Also, on the boost they can take with +40's, that is a question that can't be answered, every car/van is different. As for 1400, why 1400, forged can take higher temps, I have had mine at 1600 going up hills for miles with no issues, :thumb: Gary D said his was tuned for 1750 but thats going overboard, lol!

Yah Donovan is a beast. Okay so is 1,600 my limit?? I don't know at all. I'm trying to obtain all the knowledge I can about this thing.

I guess we'll pick up a Walbro real quick.

1500 is safe, 1600 for very short blasts. :thumb:

Well, I think its a bad idea to run the stock pump anywhere near the edge. Any sort of amp drop will cause a leanout and if you are in boost you can kiss your motor good buy.:yuck: You could use an Inline walbro instead of changing the stock pump. Im sure this would take care of any possible fuel needs you have.

www.thedodgegarage.com raes the stock pump holding only aronud 260hp maxed out.

At 118$ for a new pump that will flow for 400hp...seems like a good investment. I just bought one from TU. And that way you also got a new pump....no worries of it dying on you on the highway. Be sure to replace the filter as well.

If your going with +40's...a bigger pump should be mandatory.

There is no good reason to go beyond 1500 degrees EGT. Also remember your EGT's can sometimes climb faster than your guage can register it. If your EGT says 1600 thru the traps, it may very well be higher.
