View Full Version : just "unchaining" the balance shafts

ok so i just had my timing pully off and took the chain off the BS didnt take the shafts off, left them bolted up but took the chain off the crank. will this work?? they dont help to send oil to the head do they??

That's fine to only remove the chain. If you ever have the pan off you can remove the rest of the assembly if you want and plug the oil hole. It is not necessary though.

Leaving them in is a good idea otherwise you should get a windage tray or run a shallower oil pan to stop the oil sloshing which could cause bearing damage or engine failure.

I'd never remind the balance shaft without balancing the engine first.

The risk of having vibration is too great to ignore.

now that i have gone over before in this thread (http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23704)and from what i got that only a high HP 2.5

I balanced mine when I removed them but that was because every thing was going to the shop at the same time.Im sure it doesnt vib as much as it could but im sure on a 2.2 it isnt as bad.
