ok so i pulled my engine out of the r/t the other day and its dirty. the trans is just nasty and the engine bay isn't too bad but needs to be cleaned. what can i use to get this done. something that i can get in a gallon jug would be nice.

Purple power and scrub brushes. Or a steam cleaner.

Careful though, the purple power or Castrol super clean (also purple) eats uncoated aluminum and leaves a chalky finish. Still it cuts grease better than anything Ive used:amen:

it doesn't eat it bad though, steel wool takes the chalk off.

Hot water and Simple Green. It doesn't work quite as well as PurplePower or the other harsher degreasers, but it is safer for your paint and aluminum.

Purple power FTW! Thats stuff is great. I cleaned mine up with PP and a pressure washer I borrowed.

I'd use that too if we didnt just get our driveway repaved.

The PP or Super Clean does a great job, but as mentioned, it is hell on bare aluminum. Be warned!!!

Don't let it stand on paint for long either. It stripped some factory paint in an engine bay once :o

Try some S100 Total Cycle Cleaner

http://www.superiorcarcare.net/s10001.html

There are more places that sell it than just the linked site above. Just Google around for the best price.

Used it for years on motorcycles and still use it under the hood. Stuff works great!

If you decide to use one of the petroleum based cleaners, such as Purple Power, SuperClean, or Oil Eater, make sure you rinse very very very well after you are done.... then spray down everything with a corrosion inhibitor. I like to use CRC 656 Marine. It worked so great on my Sea-Doo for preventing corroision between uses, that I started spraying it under the hood of my cars everytime I washed them. It also leaves a very nice shine that lasts for a a week or two.

ive always used regular oven degreeser, just stray it on let it foam up for 10 minutes or so then spray off, works great it has cleaned both my slant six and 318 motor which were both painted after with little work to clean after using that stuff, works great:thumb:

I use simple green. Works great. Oven cleaner also works great too. I tried the other stuff and I didn't like the results...... Always *try* to use hot water though.....
