Well I already have single side exit on my Daytona and am wanting to go dual from the cat back. The drivers side is done but on the passenger side where I want it to go the fuel filter is there. Will this cause a problem? Is there any chance of the exhaust getting too hot that far back to maybe ignite the filter/lines?

Seems unwise to me, in case there is a fuel leak or something. That said you could wrap the exhaust with thermal wrap through there.

Still trying for this are we Kyle?

For sure bro. Just needed some suggestions from the wise. Is exhaust wrap expensive.

yes exhaust wrap is expensive. you will have to wrap it or else you'll heat the fuel lines and cause vapor lock.

I would build a heat shield for the lines rather than do the exhaust wrap. Exhaust wrap could absorb fuel if there is a leak and act like a wick. A well designed heatshield will keep heat off the lines, and shield the exhaust in the event of a fuel leak.

With the pressures of fuel injection this most likely wouldn't happen. This was more prevelant with carbureted cars because of the very low fuel pressures.

I believe it is the fact that fuel injected cars use a return line that keeps the fuel from heating therfore preventing vapor lock.

Not all FI cars have a return line though, the Neon SRT-4 doesn't have a fuel return line stock.

Nice looking exhaust although I would paint the pipes black to match the red and black theme of the car. Also I noticed your seat belts are odd. I have never seen a daytona with the door mounted belts.

Those belts must have been a special option because my Shelby Z 88 does not have them.

What muffler did you use? do you have a sound recording so we could hear it?

because cars burst into flames all the time with gas soaked wrap...right?

Sandy briggs (upside down face) used some tips that the muffler shop next to his work had sitting on the shelf

I had a single side-exit, I went with a straight dump under the car. It is awesome.

My 87 Pacifica and 87 Shelby Z had/have them

It was an option on the 87 and 88 Daytona. Interesting side note, when you got the optional airbag on an 88 the car will have the door mounted belt on the passenger side and the standard pillar mounted one on the drivers side. I've also noticed the airbag cars, and the door mounted seatbelt cars have the bubble style glovebox and lower dash on the drivers side. I guess it was suposed to help your knees in a head on collision, I'm not really sure how though since the plastic is just as hard as the early style.

differnce between a loud car and a good sounding car. I've run open down pipes, side exits and full exhaust. I my self hated driving the car with anying but an exhaust the exited out of the back of the car with a magnaflow muffler. all side or open DP's on our cars just tell people we'er cheap. it would be nice to get away from that strieo type!

I run mine at the track? Since when was it cheap to run an open downpipe on a race car lol

my side exit on the aries has been fine, with just a glasspack. Just gotta make sure your cruise rpm is low enough. Even when it was tbi, you couldnt really hear the exhaust on the highway in 5th. Now turbo, its even quieter. I mostly hear air wooshing noises.

However if you rev it up in neutral it is still loud. The beauty of glasspacks.

my 2.5l tbi omni with side exit 2.5" exhaust cat and muffler was annoyingly loud, but my 2.2 turbo 3" side exit no muffler or cat sounded bitchin. i used to pull up to bus stops and people thought it was time to take a ride, til they saw ole blue, and they just shook there heads. even the guys at the track dig it, the annoucer would say "the wickid sounding omni is about to make another pass", but i was running 20 psi at the time.

Im telling you glasspacks are magic. My 2.5 spirit with garrett, 2.5 all the way out the back with one glasspack and nothing else, super quiet. TOO quiet.

I hear ya. I agree that on an open downpipe it can sound like s*** and also on some straight through systems. The side exit though on my 3 inch idles real quiet. I mean you can hear it obviously, but not enough that you can't talk or listen to music without trouble. I prefer louder the better though hehe, obviously my neighbors don't.

You would paint the pipes? I really don't see why. Unless you powder coat them, they will get nicked and scratched from debris. They will regardless if how you paint them though. If it's a show car I can understand that. But driving that thing on a descent regular basis would have those things nicked up in no time.

well on a race car is a differnt thing. But running it on the street is kinda stupid. I dont know one person who owns a race car who drive it with open pipes on the street.

I drove my car to a muffler shop with just an open down pipe and it was incredibly loud. The sound was clattering all over the place and reflecting off of every building I drove past.

I do agree that glasspacks can sound quite good. I had a long glass pack on one of my daytona's with side exit and it was quiet and never droned. It was a bit annoying to have side exit because it was always stirring up dust on the left side and made it difficult to drive with the windows down while going slow across a dirt parking lot.

Side exits look good.

heh yeh whenever i rev the aries in the driveway i blow a little hole into the gravel. One of these days ill step in one and roll my ankle and wonder why i ever rev it up in the driveway. hahah.

But with open downpipe doing the same thing turns your car into a duststorm. I drove my spirit on 60 mile drives a few times with open downpipe and it wasnt really loud until i was in boost. Still not something id keep doing, thus the exhaust now.

My thing is when i get a car with stock exhaust, i cut it off right away so i'll be forced to upgrage it. If i just leave it there until i buy something better, i might not buy something better for a long time, so i just up the ante on myself. lol. My dynasty kept the stock exhaust for like 7 years, but a few months after i cut it off and left it sitting because it was too loud to drive.... viola, 3 inch mandrel exhaust with high flow cat and dynomax straight through, VERY quiet, but better flow:thumb: And im hopping in to go somewhere in an hour.
