Other wise, your cylinder head will be slowing eaten away by acid and metal transfer. Not to mention your radiator will be less likely to be clogged, and less chance of overheating. This head probably have 90k or so...

Remember to check out those cross-flow holes, err, I meant cross-flow slots...

Oh yeah, regular 3k-5k oil change doesn't hurt either.

Wow, thats some serious corrosion, also looks like a burn't exhaust valve.

What was he running for gas? some of the valve heads look badly corroded/pitted?

I bet the rad and heater core are junk after you get it running again, :(

I'm not surprised.

I flushed out my Shadow two years ago. It came coming out brown, even after a flush. So I back flushed it. I had tons of crap coming out. It took two flushes before my coolant stayed green all the time.

I thought the shadow was bad, until I flushed out the neon. The coolant was always green, but I figured the 2.4 motor I installed, sat on a shelf for 5 yrs. I had chucks coming out when back flushing the system. When I thought I was done, I pulled the radiator. I was able to get more crap out of it.

Both cars really liked the flush. The shadow, more so. Shadow's have tiny heater cores. Before back flushing, my car had no heat unless I was on a long road trip. After, the shadow would build enough heat in about 20 minutes. The neon's heat gets to 168 degrees at the vents by the time I get home from work. That is under a one mile drive.

It's funny.. You can tell people, until you're blue in the face, that maintenance is the key to longevity.. Very few do it.

Sweet pics!

Also, people that drive Saturn S-series need to check their oil...
Fill when needed, the oil is no good in the trunk.

I didn't know this was ever an issue with an '80s Dodge. Everyone I've ever owned needed a head gasket, heater core, 3-way heater valve, etc. ever few thousand miles anyway. That makes for an automatic flush.

Lady I work with was telling me her newer caddy SUV was running funny so she took it in to be serviced. Seems like it only had 1 qt of oil left in it. She told me it runs so much better now! Not to pick on women, but another one where I work trashed a pretty nice celica last year. She was told the last time she had her oil changed that it was burning oil, but she didn't know she was supposed to check it.

I got ya beat.....my sisters friend....had a 90 something 2.5L dodge shadow...anywho the car developed a major knock and died on the expressway....after bringing to the garage, they told her that the engine had no oil in it....she never checked the oil or had in changed in almost 2 years....said that she thought oil was like gas, and you add more when you run out :thumb:

I've got a 250k mile Sundace I got from a friend like that. Almost no maintenance, original headgasket and timing belt lasted to 200k miles. Finally the original clutch let go at 250k and started slipping, they drove it anyways until the motor gave up. I guess spinning an engine at 7 grand while the car is barely moving isn't that good for it. That car did get a regular oil change once a year, at 40k mile intervals. Fortunately it leaked a lot so they did do ok at filling it up all the time.
