Here's a couple of pics of an S&W cage installed in an Omni. Sorry if the pictures look bad. The camera was a piece.

S&W kits are weld-in and come notched. I just ordered one for my SC, they are on sale ($30 off) till end of year. I'm close enough to pick mine up, the shipping elsewhere is $60-70. www.swracecars.com

That's Chod's car! Yes, the S&W's are mild steel though, so if you're a weight freak then hold out for the $$ and spend it on chromoly, espescially if it'll be as extensive as a full cage with a halo like that 10 point S&W. They also make an 8 point that doesn't have the halo (around the driver/passenger roof) and teh A pillars.

Grade 8 bolts are as strong as welds, welded cages are just a bit more permanent. Anyone know where to get a relatively cheap chromo cage?

ok. i didnt think about that. but a few bolts and brackets shouldnt up the cage 100's of dollars.

Anyone have a cage in an Lbody with a full interior?

I'm under the assumption the bolt in cages I post work with the factory interior.

I'm putting the interior back in mine. I had it welded in. For the cost, I shoudl have gone bolt-in.

Heath,

Can you still fit all of the interior back in the car with that roll cage?

Well see. Not 100% sure. Was going to do some custom interior stuff anyway.

I plan to actually install my S&W with the interior still in it. By pulling the carpet away from the doors and such as far up as I can go I have aneough room to get the plates down in there and weld safely without the chance of fire (I'll have an extinguisher just in case of course.)

I looks like everything will fit fine, but you might need to ixnay the front door handles as the fit between the seats and the doors is very tight. I actually like the doors without them anyways, it looks a lot cleaner.

The only problem from there on out is painting it. Because it's mild steel I'm not willing to leave it exposed to rust so I'll have to mask the entire interior to paint it. Unless I paint just the main bars and leave teh joints un-painted, then spray over the joints and try to blend it. As long as the heat doesn't transmit too far up the pipes and mess up the paint.

use engine paint and leave 8 inches clear around the joints. When you weld the joints, go slow, work around the perimiter and give it time to cool and you won't hurt the paint. Then you'll have less to paint when its in, and you can cover up the differences with protective foam.

Who needs an interior anyways??

Good tip t3rse! I don't want a cage, but if I go as fast as planned, I'll have to have one. As for the interior, I'm still trying to fool people into thinking my car is slow. :)

wow. those are way more than the s&w cages. just cus there bolt in? wouldnt welded be better? The S&W cage can be made to bolt in fairly easy you just have to do it per nhra rules. Also they will make any of there cages in chromo for additional cost.
