Impact gun. I thought mine would never come off. I had my fiance stand on the brakes in the car while I hit them with the gun. It took a minute or so on one and then finally spun right off. The other side wasn't an issue. Oh, it was an '86 too.

I use a breaker bar with the 32mm socket. I remove the rim center inserts, and let the car sit so the weight of the car holds the tire from turning.

I actually got an 1.25" socket to fit. I don't have metric in that size, so I justed used what I had.

Word.
This is what I do on my neons (assuming it would work on the GLHT)
Stick a screw driver in the brake vent, so when I go to turn the nut counter clockwise it hits the caliper.

This stops movement, then use the biggest breaker bar you can find (mines gotta be 2.5-3 feet long, cheap $19.99 special) and it breaks it right off.

If needed a lil heat never hurts. :thumb:

I like to take the breaker bar, add a 3-4' piece of pipe and just stand/bounce on it, works every time. I'm sure the screw driver in the brakes works, but I'm not comfortable doing that to a non-Pick-a-Part car, so I'd recommend the aforementioned method of keeping the tire on the ground while breaking them loose. But that's just my .02

Breaker bar and 195lbs of sheer me standing on it, works like a charm. It would be nice to have an impact gun because that would mean I have an air compressor and air tools....

1 .25 is the one i always use on a 1/2in breaker with a 3 ft piece of pipe. it never fails

I have had to use a 32mm or 1 1/4" 3/4" drive breaker bar with a jack handle off the end of it. It took all for my ~245lbs. to break it loose after a lot of huffing and puffing. Don't give up.

Luckily, I have a Sears factory outlet near me (and not one of those rip-off outlets that really is a mall in disguise, but a real place where they sell broke and refurbished parts). I bought one of the little 3gal compressors refurbished for around $75. The impact gun is a 20+ year old hand-me-down from my dad (but he is a mechanic who takes good care of his tools, so it is in good shape).

These stupid nuts were one of the first times I was VERY happy to have the compressor.
