If your car has a VDO made gauge cluster (which I'm guessing your's does by your screen name) you just stripped the gears in the mechanism. It will never work again unless you buy some crazy kit to repair it that's major expensive.

Ya it was just weird how it quit like that. Now does that mean i have to get another one. Is their a way i can get a used one and put back the odometer to have the correct mileage for my car?

Okay, you don't have the option of switcing with a newer cluster that has the Nippondenso built parts. You'll have to order the repair kit and perform surgery.

prolly what im going to end up doing is finding a cluster that has a close mileage to my car. phuck it i guess.

It's the small blue "planet" gear that looses one tooth. (that's all it takes for the ^&%$#$ thing to stop working)Anyone who sells and services VDO stuff will know the dreaded odormeter problem and should have the gears available....

actually, an odormeter is not a bad idea!

that way you can check for blowby or a leaking exhaust manifold (when you have the flu)

ahhh.. such ingenuity

or maybe this scenario:

"dude u farted"

"no I didn't!"

"that's not what the ODORMETER says!"

"aww shucks.. u got me!"

i found a place that sells the gear.....replaced the broken gear, set my odometer back to 0(the title already claims odometer fraud).....worked for about a mile......I havent opened it up yet but im guessing the OTHER gear broke. the best part of it all is that little gear was like $26. oh and before you goto the junkyard and think your gona be able to just grab another speedo/odometer assembly......they are all broken too. I ripped apart all the odometers in multible junkyards before i gave up only the daytona/lebaron odometers are the same...spirit, shadow. omni are all different

Yep, you have to do them both.

Yep, you have to do them both.

If you're in a jam, you can push on the teeth of the bigger gear and see if it's brittle. Usually it'll snap like nothing if it is.... But it would be best to replace both, agreed......
