Broke trans input shaft carnage. Rampage was making some good power. This was with street tires on it just after shifting into third.

Any tips on making it last longer. about 7 passes on it with the new valve body.

Looks like it's right at the neckdown:( Maybe some kind of surface treatment or Cryo? Most of the race teams are using Cryo on their trans parts...

Looks as though there was something either stressed or wore out in the trans.

stessed yes. from a freakin haulin --- 2.4!!
trans is all new
the shaft ...you can see how it tapers out near the break point. Also the splines are twisted at the converter end. This thing shift really really hard into third.

Weren't there a few guys looking into Shafts made of 300M for this reason? What ever became of that?

That thread is in the old FAQ's but I digress once again.

Good job on the breakage, :( Didn't someone say heat treating is better? the Honda drag guys were doing it in the Nopi series and there trans were holding together after it was done.

OhioRob is running a 300M input shaft if I remember right. He ran it all last year with a Quaiffe. Only thing he broke, that I know of, was a piston.

Time to help Mike (me) become less confused. Is the input shaft folks are referring to from a Chrysler 300M trans, or is it an input shaft made from Maraging300? The later makes the most sense to me, but...

300m is the material of the new input shaft.

Is that a stocker or 300m?

Its a stocker. Steve was saying on neons.org that he would brake them on 2-3 shifts(mainly the lockup shafts, but should be similar). he said that lowering the line pressure helped(135psi max). I know Rob broke a couple stockers and he was around that line pressure AFAIK.

Nice job Dean. Scotty broke one in the Shadow a couple of years ago and the break started in the oil hole and snapped clean off also.

We put another stock shaft in and then went to a stick two years ago.

I twisted a few and broke a few. I got the 300m from Coan converters, it has the 904 spline so that means you would have to get your TC redone. Steve said that he can heat treat the input and that itwould make it alot better. he did my ring and pinion and I also added some bracing in side the trans for the pinion. yes Dean that will be your next step in making the tranny stronger.
I can't wait to see your ramepage go down the track :thumb:

Going to try it out this weekend. The mega Squirt seems to be running top notch very smooth power.... idles great. Almost seems too powerful might blow up easy lol!
air fuel is a rock steady 12-1 23-26 psi to 7600 lol (flared that high when the shaft broke had the data logger on)
