At the start of May I'm finally getting my backside to a dragstrip, I know that generally low pressure up front and high out back should help off the line, but on street tyres just how low should I go? 15 psi?

Not on street tires. I Usually dropped mine to 25-26 on the passenger and 27-28 for the drivers side. You'll lose traction by dropping street tires too much.

Too bad in Canada it's spelt Tires ;) but he's over the pond so it's okay

with any dot tires i use the "read your burnout" method to get the best bite out of them. Heavy on the edges-add pressure, heavy in the middle, lose pressure. I found street tires work best around 28-30 psi and drag radials to be best at around 25-28 psi.

I was running 29psi today and was lighting them up through 1st and 2nd, this is with my street tires and roughly 40ish degrees(F) out. I was informed today that a good pressure for DR's was 12psi, this was a number that I am sure took some time to figure out, it wasn't just a hypothesis.

Good luck with the racing I had a blast :thumb:

Thanks for the extra input :) If all goes well I'm going to be having a go at the local bracket series for American cars ... don't want to get ahead of myself though, lol.

I've had street tires that liked 40psi HOT! and some that liked 30psi hot, and some that like 35psi. It's all dependant on the tire. Just gotta try it out and learn what it likes based on your launch. Drag racing isn't just floor it and go straight :)

So I guess that makes you an 'Import' fan ;)

I've run radials at everything from 20-35psi in FWD turbo mopars. It is definitely tire size and hardness and vehicle weight dependant.

I definately wouldn't go under 20 psi which seems to hook decent on kumho 711's but if you get into the teens you're getting into tube and bead screw territory.
