does anyone know that spline count of the 91 568. I'm looking to get a clutch and i see them for 17 and 18. what one do i get?

The large spline is 17

Only the first year(1990) 523/568's got the smaller 18 spline shaft. VNT cars, turbo Minis etc

Are you sure? I was told my 5 speed Mini is a large spline, guess when I strip it down, we'll find out for sure, :eyebrows:

Yeah, the big shaft has fewer splines. Ended up with the wrong clutch once because of that little detail.

Post the build date with that inspection please. Just going off personal experience, if I can be schooled a bit, please do:thumb: Keep in mind that a Mini could be a 523 OR a 568, I've seen them both ways...

Yeah, the big shaft has fewer splines. Ended up with the wrong clutch once because of that little detail.
That's nuthin' Russ, I had three knowledgeable TM enthusisats over at my place one day not so long ago and we installed a 17 Spline disc on an 18 spline 523 and NOT ONE OF US bothered to check the fitment:confused2:. The car moved like 2.5 feet before horrific grinding noises ensued and would move no more. Strangest part is none of those other guys were available to help me pull the trans that second time to figure out ther problem:(... Hey what are friends for right:)?

Heh...well the fitment was just fine! Probably the easiest trans install you'll ever do! I went the other way and spent an hour or two trying to put a trans in. Much swearing ensued as I could not get the darn thing to seat. I've had stubborn ones before, but this was the first one I finally gave up on. The next day with a cooler head I figured it out.

Frustrated, late at night, throwing tools... Yer just better off going to bed.

Its a 90 factory turbo with a 568.

90 and older 18 spline
91 and newer 17 spline
